Chereads / Old Greed / Chapter 13 - Auction Hall

Chapter 13 - Auction Hall

Ratatatatat! Ratatatatatatatatatat!

Four armored skycruisers flew across the sky, shooting enemies on the ground with sentry guns.

Grey watched them through a sci-fi scope, locking on each flying craft from a considerable distance with a wide grin. "Any time you see dozens of boxes locking onto objects, you know it'll be good."

The scope showed over fifty tiny boxes locking onto different targets. It wasn't only locking onto the skycruiser but also its various parts.

"Let's give this nightmare weapon a go, shall we?" Greed asked with an evil grin, pulling the trigger.

Chunk!

A single rocket shot out the RPG-style weapon. Once it was airborne, the black shell exploded, sending out dozens of smaller missiles at the targets.

Boom! Boom, boom, boom-boom-boom! BOOM! Boom! Boom, boom, BOOM!

Dozens of explosions rocked the sky, overlapping in a crackling-style attack.

"I know my level is still fledgling, but I'll stop here." Grey smiled, "After all, I'm greedy and don't want to waste the ammo before the auction."

The teen looked into the corner of his eye at the live stream chat feature and laughed.

"You don't think level 19 is fledgling, HunterxHunter?" He asked mockingly, "I can vaporize half a military base with one shot of my railgun, earning tens of millions of points, yet you don't think level 19 isn't fledgling?"

"Must be nice?" Grey mused, reading the responses with a grin, "It is nice. I hope everyone at the auction sees its value as much as you do."

He chuckled when he read the next post, especially.

"Hoh? You and your friends are building a force to kill me?" He mused, "Can you do me a favor and start immediately?

There's still a day before the auction, and testing these weapons on players in PVP is marketing gold. So won't you be dears and help me sell my weapons?"

He gave the sky a snide smirk before ending the stream.

A day had passed since he tested out the Gravity Plasma Railgun. He spent that time level-grinding with his mercenaries, streaming his weapons to build hype for the next day.

He had raised levels four times during that period, a monumental feat considering that hitting Level 20 in a starter zone should have been impossible.

Leveling in Myriad Online came from killing transcended beings. Unless human weaponry was C-Class or higher, destroying a tank was worth less than killing a Lower Spirit fox, as the latter was far more deadly.

So the experience he was getting was in pennies, as expected from a starter zone.

His levels were mainly funded by massacring players trying to kill him.

No one knew how much defense his power suit had or what guns he hid from view, as he didn't need to use them. His weapons and reconnaissance gear were that overpowered.

"I've 3X'd my subscribers in the last two days; now the weak videos like this draw serious numbers." Grey smiled, looking at his interface, "I wonder what the auction will bring. Well, we'll find out tomorrow."

***

The teen woke up the next day and continued advertising his weapons with real camera crews present to have demonstrations for the Rykerian auctiongoers.

At 7 pm PST, real-world time, Grey fixed the lapels on his charcoal gray suit and tightened his black silk skinny tie. "It's showtime."

Greed stepped outside of his armored skycruiser, wearing his power suit underneath his attire. It wasn't necessary, however.

The Ridgemont Elite Guard Unit protected him alongside their built-in AI defense systems and bots. Two dozen players died trying to fly within five miles of Ridgemont Heights, ignoring the extended no-fly zone warning to turn back.

Countless players waited outside, hoping to get in. Each had their streams running, awaiting Greed outside the amphitheater, the same one he lost his head in. However—

"Hello, Greed." Mr. Sankey smiled with a greedy expression, letting the teen through a bunker door and entering a tunnel.

—he didn't show up at the front door; he took an underground bunker tunnel to get there, ruining their extensive efforts to get into Ridgemont.

"Hello, Mr. Sankey." Grey smiled, "Thank you for hosting me. I hope the turnout is enough to compensate you all for the trouble I inadvertently caused you."

"I won't lie; I almost put out a hit on your [limbs] when I saw you offer a 5% auction fee." The man laughed, "However, once again, you've proved yourself honest.

We still can't believe we've sold tickets to the Ridgemont Heights Auction haloscreen viewing party for a million zecta each. Your business mind is incredible.

Now let's get you to the skybox and feeling comfortable."

***

Grey walked into the skybox of the Ridgemont Amphitheater with Mr. Sankey and his mercenaries, who followed the elite guards to a wall.

The small box could only hold fifty people and guards, one of two boxes of the VIP class, the lowest tier for skyboxes.

It had seats made of a creature's hide that was far sturdier and more luxurious than leather, and each person had a table for drinks.

Bottles of high-class liquor lined the room with butlers filling glasses. It was strangely colored liquid, but he could tell it worked by how twisted people were.

Countless players groaned in annoyance when he got [yet another] world achievement and watched his stream enviously.

However, the people inside the skybox didn't feel the same way. They looked at the seventeen-year-old with contempt, whispering about Mr. Sankey.

Unlike the hundreds of millions of Earthians, who knew Greed's face, the small circle of ultra-elites did not. They didn't disclose an image to prevent people from scoffing because he was a teen.

As a result, all they knew was that he wasn't elite but got a front-row seat with two empty chairs on the side, making them sneer in disdain.

"This is Emma; she'll get you anything you need." Mr. Sankey smiled, looking at a shy brunette around eighteen in a red Markovian maid outfit, accentuating her curves. The red and white dress constricted her waist, making her C-Cup breasts look like D's.

Emma had straight hair with a silver clip and green eyes. She was unbelievably cute and his type.

"We have Sarnoff, a type of liquor, or other drinks and food items. Emma here is prepared to satisfy any other desires you may have. I'll be back soon."

The woman blushed nervously, half-wincing. She was prepared for the day she'd "service" a client but resented her first would get sold off as a complimentary service. However—

"Water would be great, Miss Emma." Grey smiled unenthusiastically, "I don't need any other service tonight."

The brunette opened and closed her mouth slightly. She was awkwardly offended that Greed didn't even look at her body! He didn't appraise her face or let her speak sweetly for a tip.

No! The suited teen asked for the most basic drink imaginable, then shooed her away! It shouldn't have bothered her, but it did.

Grey stared at her cute, reflexively puffed-out cheeks with a devious smile. "Get yourself one too, and then come join me."

Her heart thumped when he requested her, and she regretted being indignant.

"What, did you think I wouldn't use my privileges?" He mused, "My name is Greed, and you're my property tonight; if you don't think I'll make use of you, you're tragically mistaken."

The woman felt a waterfall of anxiety wash over her and stared at the man's mocking smile in horror. However, she nervously followed his orders, getting two glasses of water and returning.

When she arrived, he took the water and looked at the seat to his left.

"Don't be shy; come sit with me." Grey said charmingly, "As my property I order you to sit, act like an eighteen-year-old, and enjoy this auction."

Her eyes became wide as saucers, staring at him blankly until his eyes filled with irritation, motioning to the chair.

Emma snapped to reality and clumsily ran to the other side and sat down, afraid not to service his requests in the elite skybox.

"I'm confused by your wants." She said, looking at him once sitting, "So please just tell me what you want, whenever you want it, and I'll do it, whatever it is, immediately and—"

"I ordered you to act like a normal teen." Grey said, rolling his eyes, "So just giggle, text people, or feel anxious about losing your virginity if I turn out to be a liar. Or whatever Markovian teens do."

Emma's eyebrow twitched when he heard his cold tone and an offensive statement about her virginity. She was offended that he assumed she was a virgin!

Even if it was disclosed, she still wanted to scream, [what would people from your home do in my place!?].

The ultra-rich laugh-scoffed, watching the exchange from a different lens.

"This pathetic sight proves he's not one of us."

"He's treating a chained half-blood like a human and letting her talk back."

"Disgusting. What is Robert thinking? This is a scandal."

"I know I'll be telling everyone how lowly Ridgemont has become."

"What should we do about this brat? We can't let him just leave here without learning a lesson."

Emma's heart started beating when she heard their discussions. She didn't mean for her attitude to bring down the teen being kind to her… in his own way.

She turned to him with an apologetic look but saw him smiling confidently, looking out the skybox. He didn't look afraid in the slightest.

Catching sight of her, he turned with a magnetic expression. "Hoh? Fear? It seems that's a normal emotion for everyone our age, regardless of planets or galaxies."

Her eyes filled with wrath again. For some reason, his words, intentionally designed to piss her off, cut through her emotions like a hot blade.

Grey chuckled, turning away. "There you go. Focus on that emotion instead of these fools; it's better that way."

The skybox fell silent, with every rich person and their guards disbelieving his words. He insulted them openly and casually too!

"What was that?" A man laughed murderously, "Can you repeat that, boy?"
