Chapter 270: A Rough Arrival at Dressrosa

She ordered her men to wait another thirty minutes before approaching the coast. Just to make sure no other giant creatures would come out of the water.

There were signs of battle at the beach, but she was pleased to spot a small group of Marines walking around the coast, it looked like they were searching for something.

The Vice-Admiral had left the ship at a short distance from the beach and approached with a small boat.

She only brought along five men, leaving Captain Tashigi and her most capable warriors to guard the dangerous prisoner.

The marines at the beach approached her boat when it reached the shore.

"Vice-Admiral Gion!" Some of the men recognized her and saluted with respect.

Gion looked at the uniforms to identify their ranks and addressed the highest one. A middle-aged Liteaunant with very tired eyes.

"Liteaunant, I am looking for Admiral Fujitora. I have been informed he had traveled to this island. I must find him without delay."

"I believe the Admiral is currently at the castle."

He turned around and pointed at a big structure in the distance.

"Is that one on the top of the mount, you can't miss it."

Gion nodded.

"Thank you, Liteuanat."

She looked around the beach. The signs of destruction became more clear now, but the thing that bothered her the most was the strong stench of blood in the air.

"What happened here?" She decided to ask.

"A battle, Ma'am, no…I should say, a massacre instead." The marine said, looking depressed.

Gion scanned her surroundings a bit further and saw several marines in the distance. They were carrying around a grey bag and placed next to several other identical ones.

She was very familiar with those types of bags, very recently, she had to put an old friend in one of those.

"Who did this?" Her voice was filled with emotion.

The lieutenant clenched his fist at the reminder of the events.

"We came here along with Admiral Fujitora to assist in the arrest of Strawhat Vivi."

'Vivi?!, wasnt she kidnaped by Doflamingo?.'

"What happened next?" She asked.

"When we arrived, the pirate was already engaged in combat with Admiral Kizaru."

Gion was very surprised to hear this. She had no idea that a second Admiral had been mobilized to the island.

"Please, continue…"

"Well…then…Admiral Kizaru killed the pirate Vivi, or so we thought."

"Killed her?, weren't you supposed to arrest her?!" Gion exclaimed.

"No…I don't think he was supposed to do that. Admiral Fujitora got very angry with him. But then, something strange happened. The entire island started to shake and…the sea came to life!"

"The sea came to life?!" Gion raised her voice.

The marine nodded.

"I don't understand it either… the next thing I knew, my Captain was dead, impaled by some crystalline weapon…they came from the wall of water. Then my companions started to fall too. If it wasn't for Admiral Fujitora's intervention, we would all have been killed!" The marine shouted.

"And this was done by the pirate Vivi?" Asked Gion.

"Who else?!. She has those water powers right?... I know it sounds crazy, but then…the wall of water turned into a giant water woman and she had her face…"

'So that was that giant monster?...a construct created by a devil fruit power?. Can devil fruits create something like that?.'

If she hadn't seen it in person, she would probably think it was a lie or at least an exaggeration.

"I'm sorry for your loss, officer. But what happened to Admiral Kizaru?, did he manage to subdue the pirate?"

'Was Kizaru responsible for the flash of light I saw? wasn't that lightning?' She considered the possibility.

"I found something! come here and bring a bag!" One of the men shouted from the distance, interrupting the Liteunant before he could answer.

Gion and the rest hurried up to reach him and learn what he found out.

Whatever she was expecting, Vice-Admiral Gion was not ready to see this.

The young marine was dragging out the water, the mutilated and disfigured torso of Admiral Kizaru.

She screamed.

The group hurried into the city and towards the castle.

The city was an absolute mess. Destroyed buildings, injured people lying on the streets, and a lot of individuals running around and trying to help.

"It looks like a war has just ended abruptly." One of her men commented.

"Vice-Admiral!, look over there!." Someone called for her attention while pointing at a group of people descending the long set of stairs that led into the castle.

She had expected having to walk a lot more so it was a pleasant surprise to see the figure of Admiral Fujitora.

She also recognized Vice-Admiral Bastille walking at his side.

Gion felt a great sense of relief after seeing the Admiral.

The image of the deceased Kizaru had shocked her to her very core, something she didn't think was possible anymore after all her years of service in the Marines.

"Salute!" She commanded her men.

They all waited at the bottom of the stairs as the group descended.

"Rest…" Fujitora looked at Gion with a pleasant smile.

"I left instructions for you to wait at the camp."

"Sir!, I…"

"Is alright, Gion. I already knew you were going to ignore them," admitted Fujitora.

"Sir…we have a traitor in our ranks, a Vice-Admiral."

"I see…let us talk about this in private." Fujitora gave Bastille a glance.

"We have a small quarter in the city. Follow me, please." Bastille offered.

After arriving at the place, she went to a small office with Fujitora and told the entire tale about what happened in Punk Hazard.

"So, Vergo was with Doflamingo all along…he deceived us all. I'll send Bastille to bring him back to my ship and guard over him. I'm sure that poor Captain Tashigi is in dire need of a rest."

"What about Caesar, Sir? The Strawhats promised to bring him here and turn him over once they were done with their business. I don't know if the rest of them have arrived already."

"Yes, they are already here in Dressrosa. I saw most of them at the Castle when I talked with the King."

"At the castle? Have they been arrested?. I saw what happened to Admiral Kizaru…" Said Gion.

"No, they have not been arrested. After what happened to Borsalino…I don't want any of you fighting against that crew!. I won't be surprised if the Five Elders give them 'Emperor Status' after this."

"Emperor Status…" Gion muttered.

This was a law among the Marine forces. It stated that unless it was directly ordered by someone of an Admiral rank or higher, Emperor crews were not to be touched, approached, arrested, or engaged in any way.

This was done for the protection of the Marines themselves, of course.

A battle against an Emperor of the seas was something that even the World government needed to make preparations for and would not be done on a whim.

"I have arranged a meeting with King Riku for tomorrow. We will discuss the situation of the Kingdom and how to deal with Doflamingo and his crew. Forget about the Strawhats for now." Fujitora said.

She knew it was more a warning than an order.
