Chapter 135: Two lights

3 days later

"Hufff… huff" Vivi ran through a maze of black rocks.

"This may have been a bad idea after all" She lamented.

After being left stranded on the island, she decided that her best bet to survive would be to reach the coast. The temperature there is lower and the moisture levels are much higher. She may even get lucky and spot some ship passing by, but she had little of that last one.

Vivi hid behind some rocks and waited in silence.

Her body was covered in bleeding cuts that were slowly closing.

She had thought of a way to avoid losing water mass every time she is attacked by those beasts and their super high-temperature attacks.

She can prevent her body from turning into water, and retain her flesh body. This allows the teeth and claws to pierce her skin and break her bones but there is no loss of water and the God Fruit will then restore her body.

Vivi was putting herself through this torture for two reasons.

One: it increases her overall chances of survival.

And two: it does make her body stronger. She can feel it, every time it heals, her skin becomes tougher and her muscles become stronger.

But no matter the benefits, it was still really painful.

After running for another hour, she was finally sure to have lost them. The red lions are the best trackers of all the beasts on the island and the most persistent of them all. Once they lock into her, it takes her hours of running nonstop to lose them, leaving her exhausted.

"I need to find a way to fight back…" Vivi entered a nearby cave to rest for a bit.

The stones inside the cave were a bit colder and she was able to sit down to rest her tired muscles.

Her underwear and improvise shoes were still holding on but barely.

Vivi closed her eyes for a bit and started to think of some way to use her skills to kill those beasts. She had no weapons and her devil fruit ability had no effect against them.

'Ah…that reminds me of what the hag said about my fruit…she said that is something wrong with it, but what?'

She looked at her hand under the faint light of the cave and turned it into the water before moving her fingers around.

'Is true that I always felt that it was a bit weak for a logia type. But what other type could it be? Is not a paramecia, that's for sure…a zoan then?, but I cannot turn into any beast, just water…'

She felt so exhausted that her eyes closed by themselves, and her eyelids felt heavy.

'I can't fall sleep now…this place may not be safe…'

She tried to fight her exhaustion and open her eyes but was unable to and she fell into unconsciousness.

"Huh?..." For a moment she thought to have woken up again but quickly realized that she was not in the cave.

The place was completely dark, except for a very far away light. There were no walls that she could notice and the only surface was the flat ground where she was standing up.

"Is this a dream?..." She considered this to be one of those vivid dreams where one has full control of their mental capacities.

"But what is this about? there is nothing here…" But that was not true. There was something in this place, she realized.

Her gaze turned back to the light and she started walking towards it.

"Is not like there is anything else in here…If this is the best that my imagination can do…I am in trouble…"

As she walked, the light was getting stronger and soon she realized something else.

"Is not just one light, there are two lights ahead."

On the right was a very strong white light and on the left was a much weaker blue light that was flickering.

"No wonder I didn't notice the blue one from afar, is very small and weak… what's wrong with it?"

She keep walking until she was in front of the big white light.

"It must be the size of the Going Merry!" It was the first thing that came to her mind that was around that size.

"Or a small house…"

The white light was very intense but it didn't blind her eyes for some reason. She could stare at it with no problems.

She felt a strong familiarity with this giant ball of light. Vivi extended her hand towards it.

"It's warm…"

Vivi's hand made contact with the light and a wave of familiar feelings invaded her. With those feelings, the realization came to her.

"You are…you are the God Fruit!"

She has used the powers of that fruit more times than she can recall. The familiar feeling of warmth that she experienced when she is being healed was exactly the same as what she was feeling now.

"But then…this can't be a dream right?..."

She had read about this place before…she had read hundreds of novels in the past, and knowledge about so many different words was present in her memories. And this was a place that was described many times.

"This is my soul realm. That's why the God Fruit is here."

She turned her sight towards the other light. The blue light was only the size of a basketball and was flickering like a broken lightbulb.

"That has to be my devil fruit…it seems like Oren was right. There is something wrong with it."

Vivi decided to approach it as she did with the white light. Maybe she can find out what caused this problem if she touches the light.

She extended her hand and moved towards the blue light. This time she felt something very different than when she touched the white light.

First, there was a familiar feeling…the feeling of using her fruit and turning her body into water. But then, other feelings came to her…overwhelming feelings invaded her.

Vivi removed her hand from the light and dropped to her knees while gasping for air.

Tears fell from her eyes and traveled across her face.

"I'm sorry…" She apologize to the light, for she now understood what was wrong with it and why it felt the way it did.

Normally, devil fruits would not have any feelings as they were not sentient beings, but this one was a bit different.

Vivi now understood that this fruit was created by no other than herself. The moment she entered this world, a small piece of her own soul, was separated and combined with the devil's fruit as it was created.

Devil fruits come into existence by the will of the inhabitants of this world. After that, they are reincarnated over and over as their users die.

However, something went wrong as this particular fruit was being created.

She was in a very weakened state as Oren transferred her soul to the body of Vivi. Her will must have waved and the devil fruit that was meant for her and her alone was left incomplete.

Since this fruit contains a small piece of her soul, it also has the ability to feel things and the feeling of incompleteness brought much sorrow and pain to it.

Those feelings were what Vivi had just felt the moment she touched the blue light.

"There has to be a way to fix this…I will not leave you like this, I promise" Vivi spoke to the blue light, not sure if this one could understand her.

An idea came to her and she turned her head to look at the giant white light.

"Your power is to enhance…to strengthen…and to heal…this little light over here needs all of that and more. Please…I need your power more than ever."

The white light started to shine even brighter as if it was agreeing to her request.

"Thanks." Vivi smiled, not sure if the light actually understood her but grateful nonetheless.

There was a feeling at the back of her mind…and instinct, telling her how to do this. Or maybe it was the God Fruit itself, giving her some guidance. She had no idea but decided to trust that instinct.

If this place was truly her soul realm. She would have complete control over this area and could do whatever she wanted with it.

Vivi placed herself between the two lights and extended her arms.

As Vivi started to bring her arms together, the two lights, also started to move closer to each other.

The small blue light and the giant white one were getting closer and closer.

"Let's do this!" She exclaimed with excitement. Then, her hands became connected.

The two lights made contact. The blue light was engulfed by the white one, but then it started to change and gained a light blue tint to it.

Vivi did not know what changes would this bring to her and her abilities but could not wait to find out.
