Chapter 130: The God Fruit
"That's the name of this island?" Asked Vivi.
"It is.… and don't interrupt me." The old lady grumbled.
"A very long time ago, when this world was still in its infancy and the human race was struggling to survive while living in caves and hunting with rocks. My race was already starting to thrive."
"Wait, you are not humans?!" Shouted Vivi.
"What did I say about interrupting?!...but no, we may have a common ancestor down the line. But our race, the Ix, was different. We did lack the enhanced physical capabilities that all humans of this world are born with. But our intelligence was at another level compared to those primates."
"Another race, wow…and, the Ix?"
"In our original language meant 'wise'. And Ixtal means 'land of the wise'. Now… let's see. Our first biggest advancement was discovering how to manipulate the natural energies of the world by using chants and runes." The old lady spoke.
"Magic! I saw people doing strange stuff, and there was also that floating castle!" Exclaimed Vivi.
"Yes…magic, if you want to call it like that. We developed the technology of our society, using magic as the basis. This allowed us to progress much faster than anyone else."
"We tamed mighty beasts and used them as mounts, we found a way to make giant structures float in the air, we could store energy into special stones and use chants to manipulate the elements."
Vivi noticed that the old lady had a sad smile plastered on her face.
"We probably thought of ourselves as greatly superior to anyone else at this point in time. In our hubris, we performed our greatest feat…and our worst sin…we created a God."
Vivi's eyes opened like plates.
"A God?, like an actual God? Are you talking about the giant tree?"
"The giant tree…yes. In our time, he was known as The God Tree: Shaddai. He may not have looked like much to you, during his final moments. But he was an incredible being in the past. A few of his children are still around, I believe."
'Children of the Tree God?, could those be the ones known as Treasure Trees?...' A drop of sweat fell from her face. She rather not think of the implications of having her ship made with the remains of the Tree God's son, Adam.
"Shaddai helped us in many ways, like increasing the density of the natural energies on the island, allowing us to perform feats of magic that would have been impossible otherwise. But the biggest gift that He brought upon us, was The God Fruit"
"That's what the Lunarians stole from you, right? The trigger that started the war" Spoke Vivi.
"Yes, but let's not get ahead of ourselves… as I was saying, one day, Shaddai produced a fruit. We did not know what effects the fruit could have, at that moment. But since it was a gift produced by a God, we deduced that it must grant great benefits and our current ruler decided to be the one who will eat it."
Vivi started thinking.
'A God fruit…Kuma mentioned that I had another fruit in me. But it's impossible to have two devil fruits. So, could my other fruit be one of these God fruits…but how did it -'
"Oi, little girl. Don't get distracted now. I will only say these things once, so pay attention" the old lady spoke angrily.
After seeing that Vivi was looking at her again. The old lady continued.
"Now, where was I?…ahh yes, the God fruit as it was called since then…as we thought, it held great powers. More than we could imagine, to be honest. To sum it up, the God Fruit enhanced everything about the user. Its power, its regenerative abilities, intelligence, and even longevity. But I now know that we could not even get close to grasp the limits of such a creation."
Vivi really wanted to ask some questions but did not want to interrupt the old lady again because she would just yell at her.
"From that point, it was decided that the leaders of our people will eat the God fruit. That person will be the Ruler and guide us until the God Tree gives us another fruit, then another Ruler will be appointed. This continued for several generations. Then…during my grandfather's rule, they came…the Lunarians."
"Wait! Pause pause!" Shouted Vivi. "Your grandfather? that's impossible. I mean, how long ago did this happen? Lunarians were supposed to have been gone since the void century, around 800 years ago…"
The old lady thought for a moment. "I believe it has already been 1200 years, more or less, since they crashed their damn ship at Ixtal"
"1200 years…wow, you are really old, I think that calling you hag is not enough anymore... What should I call you…" Vivi looked conflicted.
"You impertinnent brat!" The old lady screamed with rage.
"I wasn't even born back then…and if you want to call me something, it should be my name."
"But you never told me your name, old hag" Vivi pointed out.
"My name is El'Oren"
"Eloren?"
"No…El is my family name. My first name is Oren, but for you is Lady Oren".
"So…Oren-"
"Lady Oren!"
"Old hag…would you mind continuing the story?. What happened after the Lunarians arrived? It looked in the vision that your society advanced a lot, all of a sudden."
"It wasn't all the sudden. The Lunarians lived peacefully on this island for 300 years. They brought a lot of revolutionary ideas and our people were able to advance over a thousand years' worth of discoveries in that short time."
It did not escape to Vivi that this would put the start of the lunarian war at the beginning of the void century.
"With the combination of their technology and our magic. They created three powerful weapons that Im sure you already know."
"Uranus, Pluton, and Neptune. I don't know how they created Neptune thought, since that is a living being, not a machine" Said Vivi.
"Genetical engineering was one of the latest fields we tackled. We use it to create the giants. The Lunarians use this to create a merfolk capable of controlling the Sea Kings. Generical engineering was actually my specialty. You have experienced it in your own flesh for the last ten days."
Vivi's eyes opened wide at the reveal."those beasts! You made them?"
