Chapter 116: Questions
The old man chuckled. "Indeed, the Marines must have been very surprised. During his last moments, Roger started a new age of pirates, all looking for the treasure he left behind."
"I remember his last day like it was yesterday. There was never a day with so much laughter, tears…soo much booze. He was my Captain and a great man."
"What an amazing story. It's totally different when you hear it from someone who was there." Said Nami.
"Is almost like Rogers intended to create a new age of pirates all along" Said Usopp.
"That's something that can't be answered since the man himself is dead." Rayleigh took a drink. "The only ones who can create a new age are the people living right now. There are certainly a few people alive who took something away from what Roger said that day."
He looked at Luffy. "Shanks, the man who gave you that hat, was one of them."
"You know Shanks?" Asked Luffy.
"If you come from the East Blue, you may also know a man called Buggy. Yes?" Asked Rayleith.
"Ugg, that guy," said Zoro.
"Buggy…" mumbled Nami.
"Well, those two were apprentices at our ship." Said,
Rayleigh.
"What?!" Shouted Luffy. "Shanks was on the Pirate Kings ship too?"
"Indeed he was. About 10 years ago, I saw him again, in this archipelago. He was missing his trademark hat and an arm. When I asked him what happened, he started to talk about you." He said while looking at Luffy.
"But, I can't go running my mouth off and telling you stuff that Shanks did not want to tell. But, in any case, congratulations! Im sure that Shanks is waiting for you in New World."
"Really?!" Said Luffy with a smile. "I can't wait to see him again."
"Now then. I believe you wanted me to coat your ship. That's my job these days so I ought to get on with it."
"How much is it going to cost? Is probably expensive, right?" Asked Nami.
"Don't worry about that, you guys are not only friends with Hachi but also Shanks. This one is on the house" Said Rayleigh.
"Thank you so much!" Exclaimed Nami.
"Mister Rayeligh, I have a question." Said Robin. "What is the will of D?."
"I found a poneglyph on the Sky Islands, and it had Gold Roger writing on it. How was he able to use that writing?"
"Is it possible that your crew found out what happened during the 'void century', all those years back?"
"Sure, I know. The truth about the 'void century'...we found it." Said Rayleigh.
"But, my girl. Don't get all heated up, you should all keep going on this ship, one step at a time."
"So, you are not going to give us spoilers? is that it?" Asked Vivi.
He looked at her and smiled. "All Im saying is that you may reach a different conclusion. We and the people of Ohara may have been a bit hasty on our own conclusion."
"Even if I told you all about that, right here, right now. As you are now, you won't be able to do a thing about it. However, if you still want to hear it, I'll tell you what I know."
Robin stared at Rayelight for a few seconds, considering it. Eventually, she made her decision and seem to breathe in relief.
"No…you don't need to speak of it. I will continue my journey"
"Then one day, you will learn the truth. It was a real shame what happened to Ohara, but don't go thinking that Roger was able to decipher those characters, we were all dumb pirates. The scholars of Ohara were not the only ones capable of reading them. We had someone on board who could do that too."
"There are others?" Asked Robin.
"You will find out more about them if you ever travel to their island." Said Rayeligh.
"Hey, Old sir! I also have a question" Usopp stood up. "The great treasure in a single piece. The one is known as 'One Piece'. Is it really in-"
"USOPP!!" Luffy shouted at the top of his lungs, startling everyone in that room.
"We are not asking him about that! We are not even asking him if the treasure exists or not. Everyone set out to the sea, risking their lives for it!"
"If you ask this old man anything about it…here and now, I will quit being a pirate!."
"I don't want to go on a boring adventure like that"
Vivi looked at Luffy. 'What a waste. Personally, I would have asked some questions. Knowledge is power and letting go of a source of information like this could be detrimental in the future. But I know Luffy enough…he won't change his mind, no matter what I say.'
Usopp got very nervous. "I-Iam sorry!, my tongue slipped, I don't really wanna know anything either. Make sure to not tell us anything, Old Man!"
Rayleigh looked at Luffy.
"Can you really do this? The Grand Line is just going to keep surpassing your wildest imaginations and the enemies will be stronger than anything you have faced so far. Can you conquer this ultimate ocean?"
Luffy chuckled. "I don't want to conquer anything. I just think that the guy with the most freedom in the world is the Pirate King."
Rayleigh smiled. "Is that right…"
"I think Im becoming a fan of Luffy too." Said Shakkis.
Rayleigh opened the door and prepared to leave.
"Your ship is at grove 41, right? I'll go handle it myself. What about you guys?"
"Can we still do this? There is probably at least one marine admiral on the archipelago. And he will be looking for us" Vivi pointed out.
"I almost forgot about that. We managed to escape the wave of marines but an admiral would be different" Said Usopp with worry
"Well, we don't want to cause you and your wife any trouble, maybe we should go shopping somewhere." Suggested Nami.
"What's with this laid-back attitude? They are after us, you know?" Shouted Usopp.
"If we go with him, we will end up dragging the guys chasing us towards our ship. Our best chance is to run wild all over town" Said Franky.
"So what, we split up and meet back at the ship when is finished?" Said Zoro.
"If you split up, we may never find you again, moss head!" Said Sanji.
"Shut up, you damn cook!." Answered Zoro.
"Shakkis, do you still have it?" Asked Rayeligh.
"Yes, I have one sheet." Shakkis took out a blank piece of paper and gave it to Rayeligh.
