Chapter 63 - Chapter 62

Ferris was sitting on his couch watching TV, only his mind was not there. It kept returning to the condition of his arm especially now that he knew there was nothing he or anyone else could do about it. He was tired. His mind and body were exhausted beyond what he had ever experienced. He was tired of the smell and the flies buzzing around him. He almost lost the will to live and there was no point covering his hand with a bandage anymore. The only purpose the bandage served was to prevent the flies from laying eggs in the wounds that would eventually turn into maggots, but even that did not really matter anymore.

Ferris regarded his hand with disgust. The flesh was almost gone completely revealing most of his finger bones. They had a yellowish colour. They were held together by means of stringy white tendons. The cuts on his arm had grown considerably over the last few weeks. Ferris knew he had to keep his mind positive but he could not help to think how positive thinking would get him out of his nightmarish situation. He hated everything about his existence. He had thoughts about amputating his arm to prevent the curse from spreading. If that was what it took then he would have to do it soon before it spread any further.

Ferris's shoulder itched, and he scratched absentmindedly while watching a program about wildlife on the TV. He noticed how a venomous snake had bitten a rat. The rat started limping along as the venom was setting in and running through its veins, devouring its protein. A short while later, the rat tumbled to its side kicking out the last bit of life. Ferris scratched his ribs. The snake was sailing along, and circled around the rat. It swallowed the rat whole and soon a big lump was moving down its body. Ferris scratched his shoulder and ribs.

A lazy fly came buzzing down on Ferris's hand as he flicked through the channels. He chased it away by waving. Frustrated with the smell and the flies he scratched his ribs again. Ah don't tell me the fucking mosquitos are after me as well Ferris thought and again he scratched his ribs. He felt something different there than the bump formed by a mosquito bite. He paused for a moment and lifted up his shirt hoping to God that it would not be what he thought it might have been. Ferris held his breath and looked down the left side of his rib cage. What he saw was something terrifying. A small cut started to form in the middle of his rib cage. Although the cut was small, Ferris knew it would grow over time. The cut on his ribs looked similar to the cut that started on his hand the first day he had noticed it. Ferris remembered the itch on his shoulder as well. He removed his shirt to inspect his body properly. There it was, a small cut started to form on the front part of his shoulder. Another fly tried to settle himself on Ferris's hand again. Frustrated Ferris waved his hand. He inspected the cuts on his shoulder and rib cage again. He sighed and threw his head back into the couch looking up at the ceiling. He was too late. He should have amputated his arm much earlier. He knew he would soon look like a walking skeleton with his intestines exposed through his ribs. He also knew what would follow after that. He would surely die if his intestines were exposed to the air. They will dehydrate and shrink like peas until his heart failed to pump.

'Please God, help me,' Ferris prayed.
