Hours had passed before Effie woke again. Her lids were thick and heavy as they worked themselves apart, glancing slowly around the room, trying for a moment to remember why she was waking up in the bed at the apothecary and not in the cabin.
Sunset's orange glow now flooded the room in a haze of soft light, like a dream. And as her eyes followed the tendrils of warm rays that now streamed in through the small, glass-pane window above the bed where she lay, she suddenly realized that this was the first time she had seen sunlight in a while. The awful, black storm that had been raging for days finally was gone. Effie breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that her ordeal with the warden and the dark witch were really over. That nightmare had come to an end, and thanks to Reign, she'd managed to get away without tearing her body to pieces with unbridled power. He had been by her side the entire time. She wondered where he was now.
