After the trading online closed, Ming picked up some onions and luncheon meat, eating them with some bread in a mixed combination.
After eating and drinking to his fill, he dozed off on the couch again. When he woke up, he was surprised to find that he had slept for three hours.
It was still night outside. He picked up his Eternal sunglasses and put them on, making everything look as bright as day. He then checked his equipment, gave Da Vinci, who was still fast asleep, a little rub, and then left the house.
He had looked at his personal achievement tasks earlier: kill 50 normal zombies. He had already completed about half of this, and he had also killed two elite monsters. Although he didn't expect himself to be able to take on a Lord-level mutant creature single-handedly, he still wanted to try for the elite monster achievement.
As soon as he arrived at the fire door, he saw a zombie with its upper body stuck in the gap between the two doors. He guessed that it was trying to squeeze in but got stuck.
Ming put away his striking crossbow and took out his quenched spear, thrusting it forward.
With a splat, the spear pierced through the zombie's head.
Ding~ Da Vinci's "Unexpected Joy" loot rate increase triggered.
As a crisp and pleasant prompt sounded, a white light column fell on the ground.
"Oh my, this is a good start."
Ming smiled and collected the card, using the spearhead to push the dead zombie out. He looked out through the gap in the door and saw no other zombies, so he opened the fire door.
He first went down to the 19th floor for a rough search, this time not for items, but to see if there were any zombies that had strayed here.
After the search, finding no zombies, he took down two door panels and then carried them out of the 19th floor. He locked the fire door from the outside. He didn't have the energy to check for straying zombies every day. After locking the door, zombies wouldn't be able to enter the 19th floor.
He did the same on the 18th floor, checking the rooms and then locking the fire door.
On the 17th floor, he found two cucumbers, a bottle of water, and a bag of bread, enriching his food supply again.
Likewise, he locked the fire door on the 17th floor from the outside and continued down. The staircase corner on the 16th floor was where he had previously killed zombies and formed a wall of corpses. The zombies behind the corpse wall became agitated at the slightest sound of footsteps.
Ming used the door panels he had just removed to lay over the zombie corpses. He didn't want to step on these things. First, he was afraid that he might step into a gap and get grossed out. Second, if a zombie that wasn't completely dead bit him, it would be a loss.
After laying out the wooden panels and crossing the corpse wall, Ming used his spear to pierce through the heads of two zombies. He successfully reached the elevator area on the 16th floor. All four households on this floor had their doors open, and there were bloodstains on the floor, but no zombies. He immediately locked the fire door on this floor.
He had two goals for this trip. One was to complete the personal achievement task of killing 50 zombies. The other was to establish a new shelter.
He couldn't stay in one place for too long. More importantly, Da Vinci's search range was limited. If he stayed on the 20th floor, it would severely limit Da Vinci's search capabilities.
He continued down to the 15th floor. As soon as he reached the fire door, a zombie lunged at him.
With a splat, he pierced its head with his spear, killing it instantly.
He carefully entered the elevator area on the 15th floor. He first closed the fire staircase and then observed the status of each room in the elevator area, finding that all the doors were open.
Ding-ding~ He knocked on the wall, waited for a while, then knocked again.
Hehe~
Finally, the sound of a zombie came, but no zombie appeared.
This was a bit strange.
Following the sound, he entered apartment 1501. The refrigerator in the kitchen was open. Had someone been here searching?
There was nothing unusual in the living room or the two bedrooms. At this point, he realized that the sound was coming from the bathroom. The bathroom door was closed. He gently turned the handle to open a crack.
Through the crack, he was shocked by the sight inside. A zombie was sitting on the toilet, extending its arm towards him and making a hehe sound.
"..."
Ming was stunned for a moment before he laughed. He took his spear and pierced the zombie's brain. No wonder this creature couldn't stand up; its buttocks were stuck on the toilet.
After leaving this apartment, he went to apartment 1502. There was nothing inside except for a pack of chocolate cookies.
Apartment 1503 had a very warm setup, which clearly indicated that a girl lived there. As expected, a headless corpse lay in the bathroom - a female body.
But where did her head go?
Suddenly, a familiar sound came from his feet.
Ka-ka-ka-ka!!!
"Holy shit!!"
Ming was startled by the sound, his hair standing on end. It was a leftover trauma from killing the 'Ka-ka woman' on the 21st floor. He looked down and saw a long-haired head behind the bathroom door.
Ka-ka-ka!!
Although it was just a head, its mouth was still moving, making a clattering sound with its teeth. Its pair of greyish-white eyes were wide open, staring at the person holding the spear.
With a splat, Ming pierced the head on the floor with his spear.
He walked out of the room and arrived at the door of apartment 1504. As soon as he entered, a strong acidic, and rotting smell hit him. It was like the stench from a chemical factory's sewage ditch.
Even though Ming was wearing a mask, the smell managed to seep in. Just as he was about to leave, he felt something sticky under his feet. When he looked down, he saw a liquid that looked like mucus, presenting a pale yellowish-green color.
"What the hell is this?"
Ming thought as he looked around the living room.
Goodness! The entire floor, walls, and furniture were all covered with this kind of sticky substance.
How could he describe it?
The entire room felt like the stomach of an unknown creature, filled with what seemed to be gastric juice.
"Eh? What's that?"
At this moment, an object caught Ming's eye. It was white with yellow stripes, mostly wrapped in a sticky substance.
He held his breath, wanting to move forward to take a closer look, but the smell was just too pungent.
Phew~
It was unbearable.
Honestly, he could bear the smell with some effort, but stepping on that sticky substance was just too disgusting. The surface of his shoes was even sinking into it.
He wasn't scared of any bloody scenes, but he was utterly unbearable against this indescribable thing. He couldn't help but wonder, what did the owner of this house do before the apocalypse?
How could anyone tolerate this?
Crack~
Ming disassembled the wooden door of apartment 1503 and then took off the wooden board of the dining table to use as a stepping pad in apartment 1504. Only then did he manage to reach the center of the living room, and see clearly the thing wrapped in sticky substance.
It was an egg~
"Such a big egg?"
It was white with yellow spots, about the size of a basketball.
Wait a minute?
What kind of egg is this big?
What did the people who lived here before the apocalypse do to get such a big egg?
Hiss~
"..."
Suddenly, he felt a chill rising from behind him, shooting straight from his feet to the back of his head.
