"What?" the scholar's friend exclaimed, suddenly standing up. He looked at the flustered maid and said sternly, "Where are my father and mother? Take me to them!"
The maid hastily led the way, with the friend immediately following.
The scholar thought for a moment.
And followed as well.
The three of them arrived at a building within the large estate, where many house servants and maids were already gathered. Seeing the three approach, they promptly made way.
The scholar looked curiously at the expressions of the house servants and maids, noticing that each of them wore a look of fear.
It was as if they had seen a frightening scene inside the building that had left them petrified.
The scholar furrowed his brows.
He and his friend then entered the building, and almost simultaneously, they froze in place.
Their expressions changed identically, as if they had encountered a ghost in broad daylight!
Indeed.
