Walking through the town, both Smaug and Rainha looked around reading the signage above the various buildings and streets. They could find just about anything you'd expect on the main road of a bustling town like this one. From cheap trinkets to expensive devices made to make your daily life easier.
"They really have, everything…" Hainrah noted
"Yeah, there is only one thing I can't seem to find but that's… more of a night-time type of es- Ugh!"
*punch*
Before Smaug could even finish his sentence, Rainha knew what he was going to say and gave him her best right hook straight to his diaphragm, instantly knocking the wind out of Smaug.
[winded, your stamina won't regenerate until this effect ends and if this effect remains for long enough, you will start to suffocate.]
After spending a few seconds gasping for air Smaug finally spoke.
"Damn, this game has something as cruel as that as well? That is probably one of the most terrifying status effects to ever feel, I could only imagine a spell that forces that status effect to be artificially lengthened, psychopathic behavior."
The pair kept walking around without much direction until they found a building much larger than the others, above the front entrance was an emblem a with a shield on the shield was a sword a magic staff crossed over each other with a bow behind the shield. There were tons of people going in and out all of them with tons of different gear and features. Some were sullen and injured, while others were excited with large sacks carried over their shoulders.
"This must be the place." Smaug pointed out.
Rainha quickly retorted with "No shit, the sign says right there" pointing just below the emblem where it read "Adventurere's Guild" in this world's script.
"I may be stupid."
"Damn right, come on, we need those IDs."
As they walked in, they noticed right away that the inside was far more busy than the outside. To the left was very clearly a bar/restaurant while to the right was a staircase going to the upper floors. Right in front of them, however, was the main attraction. It was a long table filled with various clerks all stationed in uniform. On both sides of the counter were quark boards with papers tacked to them with pictures and words on all of them. Waiting in the shortest line, Smaug noticed some quests. Eventually, the groups in front of Smaug and Rainha cleared and they were at the front of the line. In front of them was a human woman of average size with shoulder-length brown hair in a bob cut with hazelnut eyes.
"Hello! My name is Jenya, I'll be helping you today, what can I do for you today this fine evening?"
That is when Rainha spoke up "We would like a guild card or whatever it's called here, we are both immortal warriors and kinda need the job. Oh! And I'm Rainha and this is Smaug."
Then Jenya rapidly responded producing two documents with a bunch of blank spaces.
"Here are the application forms. You guys can read and write correct?"
This is when Smaug chimed in: "We can definitely read but I don't know about writing, mostly because we can't actually read, the words on the page are just translated for us in our head automatically."
Jenya was clearly taken aback by this seemingly contradictory statement. "Well no worries, I can help you guys write down your information if you need it. But here is a pencil if you'd like to at least try."
Looking at the form, all the questions translated themselves, and then a system notification appeared,
[write normally.]
Following its instruction, at first, he had control over his hands doing the motions to write in English, but then as if it had a mind of its own, Smaug's hand wrote with extremely neat handwriting in the language of this world, or maybe country. He didn't know.
Rainha loudly exclaimed "Well would you look at that, we really can write. That makes stuff easy, especially since our handwriting is so perfect. But comparing the two, there are very slight differences, it isn't completely perfect. "
"I'm glad to hear you had no troubles, now if you would follow me," Jenya stated, as she put up a sign that said she would be out in a few minutes.
Following Jenya, Smaug, and Rainha were brought to a room with several magical machines. Placing their info into a different machine, Jenya directed them to tough the panel with a palm print on it. Once touched the panel lit up and so did a screen with all sorts of words he couldn't read fast enough flashed by. When a few words settled, reading it revealed a dumbed-down version of his stats missing the defense and attack values as well as his dungeon master status.
Then the machines made a whirring and dispensed a card each. Both are not much different from an ID in real life in both layout and feel. They were still a nice toasty warm being freshly printed when Jenya spoke up.
"Those cards are your guild cards, they contain all of your public information in the text you see on them and your private info like stats and class when you get one internally using magic. The first one is free, but if you lose it that is 5 coppers for each replacement. serial offenders can even find the price rising to a whole silver."
"Yikes, that much?" Smaug winced internally a bit, he already owed Rainha a bunch, but the thought of having to pay off even more debt hurt his soul a tiny bit. Walking back to the counter, Smaug had one more question.
"Hey, what are those quests at the front desk?"
"Starter quests, mostly stu around town. The reward money is so low, that the guild barely even cares about getting a cut of the transaction meaning most of it goes to the adventurer granted, it is 3 copper coins at most. It's stuff like gardening, finding missing pets, and getting cats out of trees. Enough to make the people like you and probably some of the only quests you two are ready for at the moment. Don't worry, you'll be able to get herb gathering soon enough. That's when you start to get experience out in the field."
Smaug decided to ponder his options for a bit.
"Ahh, what about this one Rain? Fix up the fence near an old church, 2 coppers, the job doesn't seem too bad."
"Yeah, we'll take this one."
Jenya responded politely. "You'll be taking this one on as a party? Well, the reward will be evenly split due to its nature. Are you sure?"
"Yeah, I owe her a bunch of money anyway. Old debts, not a good story."
"Okay, let me confirm it for you. Hold out your guild cards."
Jenya took out a stamp and pressed down on their guild cards and then when she stamped the quest, their names appeared on top of it.
"All set, I can also get you a free map of the town so you can find the church."
"Yes please, that would be much appreciated." both Smaug and Rainha stated at the same time.
