Chapter 12 - Grato's fake death

Grato's pov.

This past few days, I've been busy sorting things out with my enemies - the cops.

Sitting down on my couch, I stretched my legs towards the center table, carefully placing my crossed legs on it. The room was dark and only a little part of it was illuminated by the light from the gigantic television situated at the very end of the large well furnished room.

Golden bells rang softly from outside a tall tower since I lived close to a Catholic church. I liked the soft music sounds vibrating my ear drums and it most times made me feel like I had a pure soul. I scratched my left pinna softly as the sounds drained into my soul.

I was always like that whenever I had done something evil. And what I did this time wasn't just evil but also a deceitful action towards the police. They were in my neck and I just had to do something.... something stupid...

I Changed the tv station and leaned backwards to relax my back as a fake revelation played before my very eyes - one I had Forged.

An evil smirked appeared on my face as my lips parted slightly. I read the headline - the shadow assassin shot dead by the police force.

Shadow? Yes. That's my identity. I'm sorry for not being clear about my features earlier but I'd remember mentioning that I'm an assassin.

It's funny cause I actually didn't acknowledge the name at first buh now that I think of it....it kinda describes my characteristics.

I'm called shadow because I strike without notice. It's more like a ghost appearing in broad daylight... I'm with no doubt the number one criminal in the black list and an enemy to my victims. Since the police have been trailing me for the past seven years, people concluded I was a living ghost, more like a shadow - one who can be seen but can never be caught.

I smiled wickedly as the police officers patrolled around my supposed corpse on the tv.

A surprise death was all I needed to set things right. In no time, I would be forgotten and that would make me safer.

How did I do that? The fake death? Na-ah.. I ain't gonna tell you. Just know this - I'm a genius too and I ain't the shadow assassin for nothing.

You have to be everywhere to know everything. Just put up a perfect disguise...

I sighed as I got up from the couch. The night was still fresh and sirens bloomed my ears. No church bells anymore.

Guess the cops are in for something new again. I took my car keys and trailed their destination.

Thank God there wasn't too much traffic jam, that mad it easier to trail the police cars. Otherwise, I would have to use my driving skills. Trust me, I'm a bad driver... you know what I mean.

Soon, I landed in a dark street surrounded by police cars.

"So this is where the police cars where heading to?" I thought as I walked slowly towards the scene filled with people in tears and sad expression.

Putting on a nose mask, I pulled through the crowd. Whispers itched my ears and I felt irritated. My nose awakened with the sting of blood.

" What news could be more shocking than my death???"

I wanted to find out badly. I leaned forward towards the barricades, arms crossed on my chest. Security guards shoved people away and I stood observing every scene.

A man was crying helplessly as he shook the dead woman to wake up. He must be a relative, perhaps her son?

He couldn't let go of her corpse and several guards dragged him away. He cried uncontrollably shaking his body vigorously from their grasp. Soon he was injection with a fluid which calmed his nerves. The guards felt pity for him and helped him rest his head - he could only watch her corpse now.

A familiar team of four men showed up, completely taking over the murder scene. Protecting their selves with gloves and nose masks, they took photos and wrote down stuffs. The fat or almost shapeless man kept on pacing around grumbling something While the tallest guy was busy searching the victims body.

The ambulance arrived just in time and both mother and son were taken in.

With time, the whole area became deserted because people feared the killer might return as they claimed that criminals usually return to the scene of the crime. That was true.

I shrugged as reality hit me. It had to be the same killer since I noticed the dead woman's finger was also missing when her bloody hand was exposed as she was transferred into the ambulance. I remember seeing the tall guy put a ring inside the evidence bag too.

I smiled walking towards my car, one thing was sure - I'm few inches away from discovering this mystery killer.
