Chapter 15 - Broken

While Liam evaded the attack of the Elite Ratatuo, his arms didn't remain idle. He moved them rapidly and inserted a considerable amount of his remaining Arcane Power inside the two longswords' blades.

A faint glow mantled the blades that began to vibrate violently. The sound of something crackling reached Liam's ears which forced him to pierce his arms upward with all his might.

He maintained an iron grip on the hilts of the two longswords and thrust them through the neck of the donkey-sized Elite Ratatuo.

The blade cut neatly through the Ratatuo's fur and it dug deep inside its flesh before it met some resistance due to the bones. As a result, Liam's attack was forcefully put to a halt as the longsword's blades cracked.

Liam clicked his tongue reproachfully and drove the blades deeper into their opponent's neck while gritting his teeth as his muscles swelled up.

He used every ounce of strength within his body to kill the Elite Ratatuo, only to fail miserably.

The Elite Ratatuo let out a horrendous shriek that made the students cower in fear. It thrashed on the slippery ground violently and threw its entire body around before slamming its claws against Liam who could barely react in time.

His eyes took note of everything that happened around him, which was how he deflected the attack. He blocked the claw that smashed against him with the fragments of the longswords that broke when the Elite Ratatuo had moved vigorously.

He realized that his strength was not enough but still didn't let go of the steel longswords that broke into two pieces due to the sudden movements of the Elite Ratatuo when it felt the searing pain of razor-sharp blades cutting into its neck.

This left the handle and the lower part of the blade in Liam's hand while the tip and around 20 centimeters of the blade were stuck in the monster's neck.

Liam was hurled through the schoolyard and he smashed against the small pile of dead rats. His landing was soft but that didn't really help him to jump up from the ground and evade the next attack that followed up quickly.

The Elite Ratatuo was controlled by its bestial instincts and filled with rage. It charged at Liam without a care for anyone else and it slashed straight at him with its sharp, pointed claws.

Liam's arms hurt from blocking the attacks repeatedly, his hands cramped and his eyes began to hurt. Nonetheless, he slashed the two longsword handles at the Elite Ratatuo, one against its claw to divert the trajectory of the monster's slash by inches and the other straight at its head, or the monster's eyes to be precise, in order to force the Elite Ratatuo to close its eyes.

His throws were accurate and his attack was a success. He moved in accordance with the changed trajectory of the slash, evading the attack with a gap of millimeters between his head and the monster's claws as he pushed his body upward with a shocking velocity.

Liam forced his hand to heed his commands as the cramping hand turned into a flat knife while claws grew out of them just before they dug deep into two wounds at the Elite Ratatuo's neck, puncturing it further.

The blades were still stuck in the neck but Liam couldn't push them deeper inside. Thus, he used his claws which were further enhanced with the last bits of Arcane Power that resided in his body to claw at the Elite Ratatuo's neck and tear it to shreds.

Liam dragged his claws downward through the rat's flesh which caused a fountain of blood to gush out of the Elite Ratatuo that began to squeal and thrash in pain once again. It's squeals were high-pitched and loud but its movements slowed down drastically in comparison to before.

This gave Liam the opportunity to cause more damage with his razor-sharp claws and the bits of Arcane Power that had been consumed to enhance their sharpness.

'My body is still the same as before…but so fucking weak…' Liam thought while gritting his teeth as the remaining bits of energy were drained from him.

His entire upper body hurt, and his Soultrait was deactivated due to the lack of Arcane Power and crossed sub-zero. But despite all of that, he continued to viciously claw at the neck of the Elite Ratatuo.

The monster's blood poured down on him like a waterfall and its movements kept slowing down.

However, Liam only dared to stop his attack when two notifications popped up in front of him.

[Elite Ratatuo has been slayed]

[+5 Arcanium]

Despite seeing the Arcanium he had gained, Liam was far from happy. He was not in a condition to continue fighting and the Elite Ratatuo collapsed upon him.

Liam had to swiftly move to the side to avoid getting buried under its corpse. His view was blurred and his breathing ragged.

Yet, Liam didn't stop moving.

He let his claws return back to their original shape of human hands and lifted them slowly as he accessed the Arcane Shop.

Instead of a relieved smile, a scowl appeared on his face when he could faintly make out the price of the item he was about to purchase but there was nothing he could do about it.

His mission was not yet over…it had just begun…

[1x『Arcane Energizer(F+ Rank)』have been purchased. 2.5 Arcanium have been deducted!]

'Why aren't there any shops yet…Can't these Elven bastards hurry up and create some cheapass potions?!' Liam cursed in his mind as a vial containing a green liquid materialized in his hands.

Everything in the Arcane Shop was overprized but it was not as if anyone had a second choice right now. No shop had been created yet and everyone was in need of weapons and potions.

In a few days the ordinary weapons and F-rank potions were bound to become much cheaper since the demand for these goods would decrease the stronger they would become, but that didn't make Liam feel better.

His fingers trembled while removing the cap of the Arcane Energizer before he swallowed the bitter content in its entirety.

Liam knew that the Arcane Energizer was not comparable to powerful potions but it would replenish some of his Arcane Power and Stamina. That was better than nothing.

His vision improved a little and he stumbled over to the battle axe which he found lying around not too far away from him.

Just when he was about to pick up the battle axe from the ground, Liam heard a familiar voice that inched closer.

"Oh my…thank you so much for rescuing me!!"

Lifting his head after he grasped the battle-axe, Liam stared into the eyes of the athlete with a cold glare.

"Stop spouting nonsense and pay attention to your surroundings…there won't be a next time!"
