Chapter Ten.
Alice was a sophomore in High School. She met Jake during one of their Laboratory practicals. He appeared to be a strong headed guy. Giving her a hard time in concentrating on the scientific process, supposed to be observed, then documented; naturalizing in the glass vile containing a mixture of two catalytic fluids on a tripod stand with gas flame underneath. Jake appeared to be a head-on kind of guy. Alice had to divide her attention between the science project and the insistent attention given her by Jake.
She was relieved when the Teacher signaled for their findings and ended the class after. She made a dash for the door leading to the corridor but to her surprise she felt a strong force of a hand grasping her forearm. She turned her head quickly, with a strong conviction that it was a perpetrator of some sort. She intended to demand for her release, but remained calm, then she realized it was the sultry speaking Jake. He made a quick nudge for her left ear, and whispered something into it. Alice was alarmed at that gesture. But decided to weigh her chances of having to either give in to Jake's advances or run away from something she considered unusual for her on a normal day. She decided to go with the former, since he was so persuasive.
That Saturday, Alice decided to make do on her promise to Jake, pertaining to what he whispered into her ear earlier that week. She met Jake outside of her house, without considering the possibility of introducing him to her parents. Not that he took offense at that. They both hopped into the parked convertible, Jake's new car. He was proud of this feat, getting Alice to go out with him.
They drove through town, enjoying the amazing development popping at every corner of the township. When they were getting to the outskirts of the town, Jake asked at the top of his voice above the noise of the revving engine,
"Did you bring it…?"
"Bring what…?" Alice replied
"The Attire for the Beach!" Jake iterated
"O, that! I did" Alice responded, smiling.
They parked at a convenient space at the Beach.
The reception at the Beach was surprisingly bleak that day. There were just a few beachers at sporadic space-length spots.
Alice and Jake made it with their little picnic box to a far-off spot by the beach. Far from prying eyes. They had already changed into their beach attire at the changing room…Alice in her Bikini and Jake in his trunks. As they laid on the sands of the beach, basking in the mild heat of the sunrise, they also enjoyed the little sandwiches and soda they packed with them for the outing. They had little chit-chats about what was happening in their lives right now.
Jake was secretly admiring Alice's body through the bikini. Alice had no idea she was stirring up something inside Jake. After hours of chit chat, Jake decided to make a move on her. He asked if she wanted a rub of sunscreen lotion on her back. Alice sensing some little over-tan sensation on her skin responded in the affirmative…
"Sure..." she said.
Jake seized this opportunity to initiate a skin to skin sensation between himself and his "date". Alice on the other hand considered this to be a friendly gesture, and above all she needed the protection from the violent sun-rays.
After the rub, Alice thanked Jake and Jake was a bit satisfied. But this satiation lasted for a few minutes. It was getting to sunset and Jake knew Alice would like to get home soon. He was running out of ideas on how to get really close to Alice, until he saw a bayside rock at the other end of the beach. It beheld a picturesque view from where they lodged. An idea popped into his head…
"Can we take a walk, I want to show you something…" he told Alice
Alice, bearing in mind the time of the day, hesitated for a bit and retorted
"It's getting late. Shouldn't we be on our way back home?"
"It will be a short walk. It will only take a minute", Jake tried to coax her.
Alice, who had grown fond of Jake, considered his request for a while and finally gave in.
"Let's make it quick. I have to make it home before supper", she informed him.
They took quick steps towards the rocks, where Jake was leading. When they got to the foot of the elevated rocks, they made a stop.
Jake pointed across the sea to where the sun was setting. It was quite a view. Alice, was smiling with excitement at this phenomenon she rarely witnessed.
As they stood there looking at the sunset, Jake plunged forward to give Alice a Kiss on the Lips. But Alice noticed it fast and pulled away.
"I think we should be heading back now", Alice said, sternly.
Jake turned his face away, trying to hide the anger swelling in his red coloured eyes.
Alice after waiting for Jake to take her back to no avail, resolved to walk back alone. Just when she turned around, Jake pounced on her, pinning her to the ground.
There was a loud shriek and then silence.
Jake was the only one standing after he had finished. Realizing what he had done to the non-consenting Alice, he resolved to get rid of her body, as if he had done this before.
He buried the Cadaver of Alice in the sand between the standing rocks, knowing it will take time before anyone found her. He then bathed himself in the sea to clean off all traces of Alice on him. After this, he made it to where their picnic stand was, cleaned it up and headed for his car.
He then decided to go home, and Alice never made it home for Supper.
Alice's death which seemed like an accident was his first kill and it was the genesis of a naturally made killer. Jake would always ponder on this first kill every time he embarked on one of his sprees. And that was how "The Sentencer" was born
