Chapter 8 - THE ARREST

"Nurse Abigail!" The doctor called one of the nurses "Please take them in to see her corpse." He then chuckled and walked away with his head burried beneath.

We all rushed in after the nurse only to see that Magdalene was already covered in a shroud.

The nurse unveiled her - my feet already trembling. This would be my second time to see a dead body. The first was when my uncle died and was brought home from town. I watched when he was bathed at the backyard of the house and placed on a bed in one of the rooms before burial. After that encounter, I didn't dream to ever see one again until the case of Magdalene.

I looked at the face of Magdalene and could hardly believe she was the one. One could only recognize her by her facial formation otherwise her skin had completely turned dark and disgusting.

Her mother sloped to the ground crying and dashing her hands about helplessly like this was her last hope in life snatched away from her.

I quietly went out and the rest of those I was with followed suit.

"Daddy we can pray about this right? There is nothing God cannot do. I believe she will come back to life." I pleaded with Mr OGBONNA to do something.

"David, Magdalene is gone! the one you saw there is not the Magdalene you have known. There is much mystery about her which we all will soon know. I have thought of praying for her but I don't have the conviction from my spirit. The Lord is restraining me from doing so because it will be fruitless." He disclosed the plead and turned to Magdalene's father. Together with the principal, they apologized.

"Mr Pam! We are deeply sorry about this. Please we are sorry do take heart."

"You are sorry? For what? There is nothing to be sorry for. After all it's not anybody's fault, she has died and that ends it."

Mr Pam then turned away and brought out his phone from his pocket and dialed a number, spoke indistinctly and hung the call, then returned to Me, Mr OGBONNA and the principal.

"Mr Principal, I have nothing against you. I'm a humble man, but this has to do with a human being; my only child who came to bless and comfort us after fifteen years of marriage without the fruit of the womb." He yelled and calmed again then Continued "She is dead! My hope is gone! Look at me, I am an old man with my wife. We won't have another child in this life again. My only heir to the throne is gone. I placed her under your care as her second father and she died under your watch. I believe you don't expect me to watch it like that. The police are underway to take you away. All I want is a credible, vivid and satisfied explanation of how my daughter was murdered." He yelled

"Mr Pam you don't have to go that far. Your daughter died as a result of Serious convulsion which caused both internal and external bleeding, the doctor verified that." The principal defended.

"It happened under your watch. She has never for once convulsed home and away. What was she doing with your student in the bush striped naked?" Mr Pam attacked again, this time around making it difficult for both the principal and Mr OGBONNA to defend.

"Alright!" The principal said fringing his hands into the air.

Feeling guilty all the same, I walked to the principal and knelt; "Sir I'm sorry for the difficulties I'm causing you right now."

"No no no David, stand up! You are the best student we have in GSS Ombi 1 academically and morally. I have never for once find you commiting any offense. You will come to the station after my arrest to explain to me what really happened so I will know where to come in" He said gracefully

"Alright sir!" I answered standing to my feet.

"Mr OGBONNA! Everything is going to be fine okay, just continue praying and the situation will be under control." The principal encouraged Mr OGBONNA.

"Amen sir!" I'm also sorry for all of these. We are in it together and God will see is through. Mr OGBONNA replied giving hope.

Just as he doted his sentence, a police van drove in. Two police officers trooped out of it and headed the corridor where we were standing.

"Welcome officers!" Mr Pam greeted "This is the principal of my daughter's school who was just murdered. Please take him away."

The officers turned to The principal and addressed him; "Are you Mr Kelvin Ayuba?" One of them asked and he admitted.

"Well, you are under arrest for a murder charge against you. You have the right to remain silent to this grievous offence as anything you say or do contrary to the code of law will be used against you. Officer! Take him away."

The other police officer approached The principal and led him away into the van and drove off.

"Quickly David! Come with me." Mr OGBONNA commanded and I followed suit.

We ran out of the gate, blessed enough one of the staff was just driving in with a few others.

We hopped into the car and Mr OGBONNA hastened the him to follow after the police van.

"Has the school been dismissed?" He asked.

"Yes! We have dismissed the pupils to return back home." The staff answered.

"He then brought out his phone and called my uncle asking him to come to the station Immediately.

As we drove on, my heart boiled with the thoughts of so much uncer

tainties. I couldn't tell exactly what was ahead of me but I was certain there was much I would be facing.

I bowed my head asking God for mercy for having anything to do with Magdalene and for disregarding all the warning signs.

I turned, looked at Mr OGBONNA and he nodded his head, instilling faith and courage into my heart to be strong and prayerful.
