PLACE: MERIDITH, YEAR: 1224, ACCORDING TO MERIDITH'S LUNAR CALANDER.
HELEN'S POV:
I smelled the fresh air this morning and in an instant, my muscles relaxed. Oh, how much have I missed this warmth of light?
"Helen?" A sound broke my concentration and it was none other than my great-sister Catherine.
"What do you want?" I ask looking at her. She walks towards me with a straight face. That is how she was. Cold.
"I think Amiera has found Miraj," she said while my eyes bulged out of their sockets. What the hell? How could this be possible? I told him to run away as far as possible. Then how did he ever get into the hands of Amiera now?
"Um-mm, where is he now?" I ask trying not to show how nervous I am right now.
Catherine looked at me with her squinted eyes as she closely watched my every action. "They are in the dungeon right now. You are asked to be present too." She said slowly.
I cursed under my breath. I guess she knows by now. But what if she did not? I have to pretend. I watched her come close by to touch me so that she could read my mind. Oh boy, I have to stop her now.
"Stop," I said hurriedly stopping her in her tracks. "I-Um, let's go now" I suggested and I ran from there. Surprisingly my hair changes its colour from pink to grey, showing my inner mood. I guess I am too bad at lying.
Sometimes I hate my weakness.
***********************************************************************************************
I and Catherine walked inside the dark dungeons that were our secret place. Apart from me and my sister only Dristan know the place. This is mostly where Amiera does her evil deeds. Oh, how I don't like her at all.
"Miraj" I ran towards her who was hanged by his hands to the ceilings. The hot iron was burning his skin. I noticed how red they were.
"What did you do with him?" I asked in a high pitch to my sisters who were just standing there doing nothing.
"It was her who helped him flee away," Catherine said while pointing at me. This bitch. How did she even know?
"You don't know that" I spat glaring at her.
"Oh, I know. I have seen the memories already." She said with her usual straight face.
That's offensive. "You read my thoughts? That's forbidden. How can you when you have the band of Veritas in your hand?" I wonder how she cheats that too now?
She rolled her eyes while pulling her hands on her chest and walking towards Isadora. "Well, if you were not too dumb, maybe you could have got the answer. I read his thoughts, not your dumbo." She said not looking at me at all.
That is why I hate her. She is mean.
During our stay in the place for this one month, we came to know our stories. How we all have survived. Luckily for me, my adopted family were happy when I came here. They truly want my happiness.
But we also got to know we were different from each other. Amiera and Catherine surprisingly became close to each other. I guess two hot irons always bend together.
"Helen, do you understand what have you done?" Marina asks looking unbelievingly at me.
"What? What did I do? I just wanted to save him. I love him." I confessed. "And I think he deserves a second chance." The last part was almost inaudible.
"Well, you fool, he just took advantage of you. Just like the rest of us" Catherine says while taunting me.
"What do you mean?" I asked confusedly. I was not sure what really happened. But they kept mum. "Will anyone enlighten me?" I ask in anger. I deserve to know too.
"Well, he is the one who killed Amiera's mother and he is the one who was behind all those attacks in these months. He is not what you think of him" Isadora says while looking at his almost-dead figure. " He is an assassin fae master. He works for some dark Lord that wants us dead!"
"How can you say that?" You don't even have any proof. You guys are just trying to kill him." I said with rage. I am feeling angry with each one of them. How can they say that to him? "Marina, I love him," I said pleading with my eyes.
"Helen," She walked towards me as she tried to console me. "We all did, at least that's what we thought." She sighed as she said "But he played with our feelings. And in the end, Victoria caught him red-handed when he tried to take her hair and was about to sell it off to some witches." She sighed. "Later we found out he had all of our hair in his den."
What? I did not know that. I listened to her carefully.
"If it was not for her, we all would have been dead by now." She tells me as she makes me turn towards her. She was speaking the truth. I can read her genuine eyes.
"So this is not one of those brutal experiments?" I ask while taking a few hiccups.
"No, Helen, it is not. You know we have to take care of ourselves. One mistake can take all of us down in one go" Sofia says while looking at the birthmark on our right wrist.
Unknowingly we all looked at it. The birthmark we carry was thought of only as a birthmark. But it was magic. Bonding all of us in one.
"We are bonded. And there is no one better than ourselves to protect us from danger." She finishes with a small smile.
I looked at the almost-dead figure of Miraj which was hanging there.
I met him a few months back and he surprisingly makes my heart beat faster every time I look at him. I guess I was falling in love. But I remember the curse I carry along with my sisters. There was no way one man could love the seven sisters equally, as we tend to fall for the same things.
I know that is a creep theory, but that is what we are. Bonded.
I never thought that Miraj would turn out to be a murderer who was only playing with my feelings. I guess my sisters were right. We cannot love anyone unless they are from a different world. At least that is what we have heard from, Maya. She was our mother's maid, and thankfully she came back!
The prophecy that was made before we were even born.
Although she was forbidden to say anything about our mother, the prophecy was not only related to her. Someday I might be able to find the secret. We all hope so dearly.
"H-Helen..." Finally, I heard Miraj walking up as he called my name. My heart sank to see his condition. His skin was torn open by the iron leash that Victoria used on him. Blood was dripping all over his body and he seemed tired of all those tortures.
Honestly, whatever he must have done, he doesn't deserve such brutal punishment.
"H-Helen, please take me out from here" he pleaded with his little words.
Before I could even reply Victoria gave one more whip to his skin and his cries filled the room.
"You little filthy woman, You cannot escape by torturing me. My men will find me and they will kill you" he spat angrily. I was too stunned to even speak right now. So that is his real face?
I stood silently behind Marina.
"Behold your tongue you rotten fae. I won't hesitate to rip your throat off if you keep shouting" Victoria says while giving another whip.
"Argh," he screamed louder than before, blood dripping from his torn back mercilessly. Sofia walked towards him slowly as she asked "Now tell me, with whom are you dealing? Who killed Amiera's mother and Queen Lucy? Who wants to kill us?"
He somehow picks up his head with the energy left in him and looked at Sofia who stands before him. He gave her a mouth full of a bloody smirk as he replied "Even if you kill me, I will never tell you"
"You bastard..." But before Isadora could complete her sentence, the iron bond of his hands began to glow red in the fire. I guess Amiera is finally here.
"Then let's kill you, shall we," She said while walking down with her phoenix fire.
For a second my heart beat faster to hear that they were going to kill him, but then Marina whispered "For sisters" along with everyone, making me realize this is for my sisters. So I joined them "For sisters" and we all ignited our power to project at him. The powers were too strong for him to hold for long and he gave up before his body was found in the dust below the ground.
"Sisters!" Someone called from behind and we looked back hurriedly. It was Dristan. He stood there with a shocked face.
