"We will start with me doing a little test. Just come at me full strength." I said to Nova.
"Like right now? Are you not tired from just fighting a manticore?" Nova said.
"No? Just come at me."
"Fine whatever." Nova said as she leaped at me with her sword which was kept sheathed at her side now in her hands and already drawn.
I got Adonis ready and held my own sword up and blocked Nova's swing that was aimed at my lower abdomen. Nova then went for a diagonal slash that went upwards so I guided my swords long with hers in a fluid like motion.
She then began using different attacks aimed at different parts of my body, none of which hit me.
We continued this until she was out of breath and dry wheezing.
"I've got a rough idea of your capabilities." I said.
'She has good stamina, better than the others here at least from my class. She is also decently strong and has a good control with the sword and her body. Not bad.' I thought to myself.
"Did.. hah .. did I do alright?" Nova said while trying to catch her breath.
"Yeah. Your better than our class most definitely." I said looking her in the eyes, "I'm sure you already knew that though."
"Most of our class do have quite bad physiques and mana capacities so it's not that hard to beat them." She replied with a slight smile.
"Right. Well what do you want to be. Do you want to use magic and your physical capabilities or just magic or your body?" I asked so I could make a scheduled or her to follow.
"I'd like to use both but more reliant on my physical capabilities. I'd like to use the sword as my primary weapon."
"Hm okay.. let's see your magic. Fire off your strongest spell." I ordered Nova.
"Where should I aim it?" She asked.
"Anywhere. You could aim it at me, the floor, ceiling, your choice." I replied.
"Okay then." Nova said as she held out her hand and water started gathering in front of her palm.
The water began spinning like a whirlpool and gathered, increasing in size rapidly. She then released her spell and it shot of like a concentrated small wave of water which swirled through the air and hit the edge of the training grounds with a 'boom' sound produced from the impact.
The floor in the line of the spells trajectory had been cracked from the force of which the spell was released on.
"I can also use fire magic but I've ran out of mana using that spell." Nova added.
"I see."
Nova just stared at me waiting for me to continue.
"Okay. We will just do some physical training to begin with until you regain your mana and then we can use your sword and try to use magic with your swordplay."
"So what should I do?" Nova asked.
"100 pull ups, sit ups and push ups then do 50 crunches and Russian twists and a four minute plank." I replied.
"What?! That much? Just for a warm up kinda thing?" Nova looked at me like I was a lunatic.
"I'll do it with you if you like." I said.
"Is this what you do?" She asked.
"Yeah but I normally do more." I said as I began with a four minute plank.
"You know what. Fine. I won't question you." Nova said as she got down on the floor to do her plank.
About two minutes into the plank I looked over at Nova and asked, "Why do your hands shaking when you fight with a sword?"
"Um well.. it's from what happened when I was younger. My family is of noble lineage and I'm a bastard child. Assassins were sent after me when I was about 5 so I had to fight to stay alive as that was all I could do. I wasn't really taught anything since my blood was 'dirtied' so I had to do everything through hard work. It was two weeks after my 5th birthday if I remember correctly and an assassin broke in and tried to kill me. I had to fight and it resulted in the assassins death and I got injured as well. Ever since then, whenever I pick up a sword my hands shake a little." Nova chuckled to herself.
"Hm.. I see. So it's like a trauma from when you were a child that you can't get over." I said.
"Yeah.."
"You don't need to worry about assassination. They can't get to you while you while your in the academy. Also when your holding a sword I want you to let go of all your worries and swing that sword like it means everything to you. Connect with your sword and don't let your emotions get in your way."
"I understand." Nova nodded, "That's hard to do though when I have such strong emotions."
"Lock them away." I said nonchalantly.
"Pardon?"
"Lock them away. Seal them away." I repeated.
"That's difficult to do. I can't just lock up my emotions. I still like having them." Nova said.
"Then just lock away that fear or overcome it." I said.
"Easier said then done."
I agreed with Nova mentally. For me dealing up my emotions took a while but I can do it very easily now. Overcoming that deer is something else entirely. I can't do it but maybe she can.
"Also have you locked up your emotions? Is that why you don't show emotions?" Nova added.
"Yes. I couldn't overcome it so I got rid of it." I replied as I began doing push ups since the four minutes was up.
"What happened for you to do that?" She asked, intrigued by what I said.
"That is something I'm not going to discuss." I replied as I focused on doing my push ups and we fell into a slightly awkward silence.
Nova soon after begun her push ups with me and we worked our way through the physical training.
