Chapter 25 - Signing up.

"Mum are we almost there we've been running for such a long time now, my stamina is almost completely drained."

"I thought you said you could run the whole way with no breaks? Come on you can do it~ let's increase our speed."

"For what reason?" I said sighing at my nearly depleted stamina.

We had flown all the way to Harpsferd and were now running in human form to where Kerose Academy was located which was at the heart of Harpsferd otherwise known as the capital, Kerose. I'm assuming the academy was named after the capital.

"Come on we are almost at the capital and then we can walk. We will have to sleep at an inn nearby the academy."

"Fine.." I said as we continued to run and eventually reach the city walls.

We went up to the gates and there was a scanner powered by mana which I assumed was being used to detect if there were anyone with ill intent. There was a small line of people waiting to get into the capital. There was also a dirt road leading to a separate gate with soldiers checking the carriages which came in.

We didn't have to wait long before it was our turn to get scanned.

"Hello miss. Please step onto the scanner and release a small amount of your mana into the machine for me please." A guard said so I followed what he asked for and a little light on the scanner flashed green.

"You may pass." The guard said so I walked right on in.

When I entered I saw houses upon houses with streetlights that glowed in the darkness of the night. There were roads made of bricks which meandered its way around with paths on the sides for the people to walk. There weren't many people out as it was late so most would be inside currently.

'So this is the human capital.' I thought as I heard mother finish on the scanner.

"Different from what I remember. Still mostly the same though." Mother said tapping me on the shoulder.

"Let's head to an inn nearby the academy." Mother said as she started walking.

"Alright."

We walked through the streets which had no one walking through but you might pass a few here and there. It didn't take long until we arrived at an inn which I memorised the location of.

We entered the inn and there was a bar at the ground floor and stairs which led up to another floor which I could only assume to be the rooms for people to stay in.

"Welcome, what can we do for you?" Asked a girl about 5'4 with brown hair cut above the shoulders and brown eyes. She was in a maid costume.

"Can we get a room for a week please. Two beds." Mother replied taking a leather sack of coins out of the ring which was placed on her middle finger.

"Of course, that will be 21 silver please." The girl said as she ran behind a counter and grabbed a green key. "Room 16."

"Thanks." Mum said as she approached the stairs and looking back at me. I followed right behind her.

We walked up the stairs where a two way corridor met us with windows that went along the hallways walls. We took the left corridor and followed it down looking at the number written on the door to check if it was ours.

'10, 12, 14, Ah there it is 16.'

Mother held the key up to the door lock and inserted it, twisting it clockwise as she opened up the door revealing a room with two single beds, two wardrobes and a door on the far right of the room. There was also a sofa and coffee table at the centre of the room with a rug that had no pattern laid across the floor.

"Better than expected." Mother said as she laid down on her bed. "When do you want to sign up?"

"After a nap. Wake me up at 9am please mum." I said as I flopped onto my bed and crawling under the sheets.

"Alright then. Goodnight sweetie."

"Night mum."

'So tired. My stamina is so low that it aches to move it feels like there is a really small tingling sensation in my legs. Ugh.'

I shifted into a comfortable position and closed my eyes almost instantly falling asleep from exhaustion that I gained from the trip here. I soon drifted of to a pleasant slumber.

..

"Kiera, time to get up. It's 9am just like you asked." Mother said to me gently shaking my shoulders.

"Mmm , okay I'll get up so stop shaking me."

I got up and put on some clean clothes which mother had stored in her ring. It was my normal clothing, white shirt and black trousers.

"Where is the academy?" I asked mother as I finished getting changed.

"Well I'm coming with you so you'll just have to memorise the route we take."

"Okay." I said as I followed her out the door and out of the inn.

We walked through the streets and there where much more people than at night time. Lots of those people were staring at us as we walked. I didn't care and mother didn't even notice or if she did she also, just like me, didn't care about it in the slightest.

Eventually we walked up to a massive building which had a desk outside with a stack of paper and a line of 50 or so people waiting to register. The school building looked like it spent well over a year to work on beachside of how well made it was.

We joined the back of the line and waited for about 20 minutes maybe a bit more but no more than half an hour until we reached the desk.

"Name please."

"Kiera."

"Alright Kiera, your test will take place in 2 days from now at 14:37. Come back here at that time and there will be someone to guide you to the exam hall."

"Thanks." I said as I walked off with mum behind me humming.

"What should I do while I wait for the exam?"

"Do what you want to do. Why don't you just go back to sleep or visit some shops?" Mother suggested.

"I have no money so you'll be paying for it all." I said looking over my shoulder at mother.

"That's fine. I have a whole treasury full of gold and ancient items anyway."

"How come I've never heard of this?"

"You never asked and you didn't need to know." Mother said with a shrug.

"Show me to some shops then. Do you know if I'll need any stuff for school?"

"Yeah we can go grab some textbooks if you want. You should also buy the uniform if your confident in passing but either way it won't even make a dent in my money." Mother spoke with pride puffing out her chest a little with a pleased face.

"Now your just bragging about how much you have."

"That's what all dragons do. We take pride in the size of our treasuries."

"Alright, I don't care. Just show me a few shops."

"Okay then let's go!" Mother said grabbing my hand and pulling me forward.

'She seems in a good mood.'
