I decided to take a good look of wherever I was and was surprised to find myself in a nearly empty room filled with all kinds of games around. So does he play all this or are they for someone else?
The walls looked like just like from any game rooms I've ever entered, just cleaner. The floors were in a chess board pattern, one tile with black and another white in that order.
The young god himself was dressed in a black hoodie and blue jeans, and quite frankly looked like a god, a perfect being. His eyes were covered with gaming glasses, and even then I could still tell they carried a lot of power in them.
He had blue hair on him, a tight, young face, though I'm sure he's been around for many years, and a peaceful smile on him.
"You going to take a seat?" he patted the bean bag next to him.
"OK."
I looked at what game we were playing once I sat and was surprised to find it was mortal combat, the version that I had yet to touch in this life time and never expect to do so in the first place.
"How have you been with the system so far? One of my best works, right?" he asked as he selected a character for him to play with. I had some idea on how to do this so I just picked the first character that came to mind and hoped that it would be of use to me.
"It's been really helpful. I would have never known how to do many things or even the knowledge itself without it. So, do you just hand it out to anyone who is one of your disciples?"
"Disciples? Oh, that old man called you that. We call then followers, and no, I don't just hand them out to anyone, even if it was one of my followers. You are probably the second I've given this, the first you don't need to know who it was,"
When he said old man, more thunder made itself known. Tartaric must be real angry right about now.
"Fair enough. Never heard of a god playing games, you know,"
He clicked start before he continued, "I'm not like the other gods. I do what I please as long as I want to. I'm probably the only one who could do so,"
"I see. I'm sure you didn't just want to talk to me about the system. What do you want from me? Most of you always do anyways,"
"Are we that predictable to you? You know, I was going to have you be my follower before Tartarus snatched you from my grasp. He was just lucky that in that forest you were attacked he was one of the gods who could go there, not my area of expertise you see,"
"Is that right?" I said and sighed with frustration as the first round had easily gone to him, a perfect score if you will.
"Not very good at this game are you? Anyways, I don't want anything from you, just that you get stronger. You could say I'm rooting for you,"
I paused the game for a bit and turned to him, "What do you mean you are rooting for me? I don't think I've earned the favour of any god, leave alone the god of technology. I'm not even that good in that area,"
"That's just it. It's because you are not a tech guy that's why I picked you for the system. No offense to my followers, but they just think about expanding the technology throughout the beastverse. Never even once do they think to use the system the way you do, that's why I had to give him to you, Bradley, was it?"
"Yeah, about that. So you told me only about two of us had they systems, but now you are telling me there are more? I mean, Bradley has been mentioning this system girl his been talking to, and I just wondered–"
His eyes narrowed before he asked, "Wait, that system has an awfully a lot of time to even think of leaving his job just like that. But wait, a girl?"
He smiled and began laughing out hysterically, "HAHAHAHAHA! Dear me, my systems socialize with each other to get some game? Hahahahaha! I always thought they wanted tips or something, it was my ignorance for that. Tell me more,"
I explained to him about my poor systems love life, and after a few minutes, he was down from his bean bag, rolling around in laughter. I couldn't help but join him in the laughter too.
He finally gained his bearings after a while, "Phew! Man, I needed that. Never laughed this hard because of a joke from up their on Olympus. Those geezers should really up their game. Now I feel pitiful for all the male systems out there. Poor Bradley, maybe I can give him an out just this once for running away from his job at times,"
He unpaused the game and we continued to talk after that. He explained to me that it was true that there were only two with systems, that said it was only two monsters with systems. He was never limited from giving the elves and even the demons systems. Maybe it's because those two races would make better use of them than us monsters who only know how to win with our strength.
He has no idea which system Bradley was speaking to, unfortunately. If he knew that, I'm sure that I would have heard more leverage on that damn system than I have now. Huh, speaking of which...
"Hey, Mr Fex–"
"Bro, what did I just say?"
"Alright, sorry jeez. Fex, is my system supposed to be that sassy? I mean, don't get me wrong, his helped a lot, but he's also not helped is some places too,"
"Oh? Is that right? I give all my systems the power to gauge their users strength only, but yours specifically was made to make you stronger because of your... You know...circumstances,"
"What's that supposed to mean? Don't tell me you gave me the system because you felt pity for me? Or is it because I was weak, or something?"
"No, I never gave you the system because of any of that! In fact, since you lost your memories, you had no idea how powerful you–I mean, let's get back on topic,"
"Wait! What were you about to say–"
"Focus on the game Max. You just might lose!"
"Oh Goddammit!" I complained when I was K.Oed, at least this time giving the god a run for his money.
"Another round? We've got all the time in the world,"
"Yeah sure," I grumpily answered.
Fex's face lit up and he snapped his fingers. The game switched up and now we were playing Players unknown monster grounds(PUMG): online.
"Let's this time go on the same team, OK. Anyways, you system acts like that because it knows how to better help you grow. In short, all systems fulfill the desire of their user. If you wish to advance tech, then the system will adapt to how best it can help you. If you wish to become stronger, then it adapts itself the same was. I bet you get the idea?"
"I do,"
We selected the duo verses squad and waited for a match up.
"So, what? We playing with gods or monster right now?"
"Gods, monsters, elves, demons, vampires, you name it! This game is universal, that's why it's one of my favourites you know, and please, gods would be a drag to only play alone with them,"
"Wait, we also play with gods?!" I looked surprised at Fex.
"Of course we play with you lesser beings! You ever wondered why a kid trash talks to someone online, then all of a sudden he's got bad signal or something? Blame Hades, cause he sure is a petty god with this things," he smiled at me like he didn't just tell me that the gods involve themselves with our lives.
"Wait, lesser beings?"
"Well not you obviously! Anyways, I feel like we are not done with your questions. Continue,"
"Yeah, I wanted to ask about something. A while back when I was fighting Emily, the demon king's daughter, I realized something was messing with my system. Care to explain to me why an orb could do that to me?"
A match had already been selected, so we were in the waiting area. I noticed my name was put up as chaos child. I muted the mic because of the 'little feuds' that always happen on the main chat.
"Hmm... Let me see. Best answer I can give you is that someone made that orb with my technology to do that to anyone who had a system, making him limited to his options. A smart way to use my tech if you ask me,".
"It almost cost me my life! And I thought I had a superior system and all that!"
"You do, but just slightly, really slightly above my other followers since you are using it for a different purpose. And remember, us gods remain neutral in the wars between your races. We do NOT support a specific group nor favour a particular one, unless that god deals with war like Ares, or it is the actual god of that race like the Demon god. But he too can only bless his people and give advice, nothing more like smiting his followers' enemies,"
"Wait, do we monsters have gods?"
"You do, dragons are your gods,"
"That's awesome! Now I want to meet a dragon,"
"Oh, believe me, you don't. I don't have the specifics, but they are still yet to recognize your race as monsters, since they respect strength and all. But, you know, since you, they've started to take an interest. Keep up the good work,"
We played the game for a while after that, until we managed to reach the top ten, Fex carrying me through.
"This is our last game, just so you know. I think I've reached my limits in this space before the rules catch up to me. It's the right time to tell you that from here on out, your life is about to take a whole new drastic and challenging change,"
"The system will continue to accompany you through your troubles but don't forget, if you are ever in danger that you know you can't handle, don't hesitate to use the power given to you by Tartarus, cause if you don't, you will surly die. I don't want my gaming buddy to die that early on in life, catching your spirit and negotiating with Hades will be a real pain,"
"Oh, and finally, watch out for–LET'S GOOOO!" the god screamed in joy when we won't the monster royal. He began dancing in excitement, but I was still waiting for him to finish his sentence.
"Watch out for what? Hey, Fex! Stop dancing for a bit and tell me–"
"YOU F*CKING CHEATED YOU D*CKHEAD!" someone from the coms screamed in anger. Fex paused in his dance and went back to the screen.
"You're just a sore loser, deal with it, bum," he said then laughed in the coms.
"YOU B*TCH! I SWEAR YOU CHEATED! NO ONE BEASTS ME IN THID GAME THAT EASILY!"
"Tough luck, buddy," I said to the coms, the guy getting a bit irritating right now.
"I KNOW IT'S NOT THAT REJECT THAT ONLY GOT TWO KILLS IN THE ENTIRE GAME TALKING TO ME! I WAS WATCHING YOUR GAME, AND WITH THAT AIM, I'M NOT SUPRISED WHY YOUR GIRLFRIEND LEFT YOU! GOT NO DAD OR SOMETHING?!"
Damn! I poked at the wrong bear. This guy...wait why is Fex angry all of a sudden?
"Hey, Max. Let's stop from here. I've got someone to pay a visit. No one, an I mean NO ONE, talks to my game boy like that!"
"Wait, wait, who I'm I supposed to watch out–"
He vanished from the room, and since it was him holding up because of Fex in the first place, I was immediately kicked out after that.
Oh, for crying out loud! WHO I'M I SUPPOSED TO WATCH OUT FOR?!
