Chereads / THE MONSTER SYSTEM / Chapter 76 - R. B. N(REST BEFORE NEXT)

Chapter 76 - R. B. N(REST BEFORE NEXT)

*slience*

I turned to the multitude of people staring back at me. Hey, look at that, even the students were watching my display of power. What, they thought they were the only ones who had trained their butts of? Even if they don't remember well, I'm still an adamantium warrior, I've got a reputation to keep.

I still don't understand how they forgot that, but maybe the Beast king has some ideas. Speaking of which, isn't he supposed around for this event?

When I thought that, I just now realized that I could feel a familiar presence. I turned around the arena, looking for the source, but just as fast as it appeared, it vanished. I'm very sure that that was the Beast king stating that he was around, just that he chose not to show himself yet.

"Um.... Listen, Max. Are you like, taken or something? Cause you see, I have this daughter–"

"HEY ANNOUNCER! DO YOUR JOB RIGHT! AFTER ALL, HE'S GOING TO MARRY MY DAUGHTER!"

"NO, HES GOING TO MARRY MINE!"

"Wow, now hold on, crowd and announcer. Aren't you all going a bit too far over a young kid? And also, you should be congratulating the boy for what a show he put up for us!" the Head general spoke over the masses.

"Remember, this event wasn't about the young invigilator there, or did you monsters forget the real cadets who run the competition? Did you even see the victors who crossed the finish line?!"

Murmurs started spreading from the crowd until one person stoop up. He had on an East representative shirt on and was probably a wizard with the staff and all.

"Aren't you all forgetting something? Every student today performed exemplary well! The fact that they were able to come out of this trial alive is a gift enough,"

"He's right you know," someone else from the crowd joined in. Then someone from the back began clapping, and others joined in, until everyone in the entire stadium all clapped and cheered.

I remembered being told that this event was being streamed all around the beastverse. Maybe they too were clapping at us. Imagine if my parents are seeing me right now. Are they clapping too?

Anyways, with that speech from the spectator, he had managed to pull the crowds attention away from me, and give credit to the actual victors of the event.

On the large screen, it surprisingly showed that East had made it first to the finish line, followed by South, then the many that remained of North, and finally no participant from West.

Though I know that in the next event, there'll still be some West students, with those who were eliminated still coming up with enough points to push them onwards from the beasts they defeated. Unfortunately, for the very few who couldn't make a good amount of points, their disqualification was imminent.

Mr William finally appeared from whatever hole he was hiding in as he slowly descended towards me. "What's up kid? You can leave this beast for us, why don't you go check yourself up before the next event. Got a long day ahead of us you know,"

"Mr William. Nice of you to show up after I've put this thing to sleep. Really praiseworthy,"

"You heard the general. Couldn't do anything much to help you, but also, who do you think was keeping their eyes on the kids after my 'partner' had to take care of the centurion beast. I'm not the deserter here,"

I rolled my eyes at him, "Did everyone make it to the finish line safely?"

"No need to worry yourself about that. After the lizard appeared, the grade A monsters had chickened out, leaving the minor ones for the kids to fight. They had little to no issues making it to the finish line,"

"Hmm...fine. What's the next event we'll have to observe?"

"Before I tell you, go check yourself out,"

I took out my bruised hands from my pockets while I raising an eyebrow in question. "You knew?"

"I've been doing this job for a while, kid. You may be stronger than the average monster, and I'm yet to prove that you don't have a strengthening ability, but you still did face a centurion monster, and your skin has yet to develop even after many hardships,"

"I see. Well then, if you would excuse me,"

I walked over to the safe zone once again, while conversing with Bradley.

[How the hell do they keep on coming up with this ideas about what ability I have? ]

[Yeah, whatever. How many points do I have for defeating that beast?]

–––

<*Great Mountain lizard defeated!*>

<*Exp gained: 500*>

<*Exp points {500/30000}*>

<*skill 'Heat resistance(LVL 1)' has been achieved!*>

***

[Only that?! These days you've been a little stingy with the points!]

[I call Bull! Anyways, about this heat resistant thing, why is it at level one? After all the heat I faced and near death experiences by lava, it deserves to be at least level 10!]

[Don't start with me! Just explain this mistake!]

[I can't with your insults today. Peace out]

I finally arrived to the safe zone and met up with Griffin there. Looks like the lizards had him in the ropes, since he had multiple bandages around him. Emily was near him in another tent, getting some bandages too, for the rain forest injuries no doubt.

A few other students looked to be injured, but the rest were probably at the next safe one to learn their results of the event. I'll have to meet up with them later on.

I noticed the med girl from before beconing at me, and I went on over to her tent. She folded her arms when I stopped right in front of her.

"What?"

"Show'em to me,"

"What's with everyone guessing where I've been injured today?" I wondered when I showed her my hands. He look of judgement turned to worry when she looked at them.

"Lie down."

"Wha–no! This is just something a few bandages wouldn't fail to fix–"

"I said, lie down,"

"Yes ma'am!"

***

[Bradley, cancel the self healing skill]

[No you dingus, its because I don't want her to find out about my other ability]

[Is...is this jealousy I'm sensing?]

<...>

She carefully placed her hands on both of mine and began focusing. A warm feeling spread to my hands that brought comfort to the mind. After a few minutes, the med girl was done. She looked completely drained, making me feel guiltily for hiding the fact that I could heal my self.

"Hey, by the way, I never caught your name, Mrs..."

"Luiz Camella. Just call me Luiz, half-nymph, since I already know you are a Furrha. Your hands are almost fully healed, but I still have to bandage them. Let me just..."

"Wait! You don't have to–" I tried stopping her but looks like she had a bandage pack in her large med pockets. She stretched her arm forward, wanting for something, until I realized its my hands she wanted.

"Oh sorry"

She rolled her eyes again. She does that a lot. While she was bandaging my hands, I found my self staring closely at her.

She really was beautiful up close, with her dark blonde hair braided up into a ponytail. Her deep blue eyes seemed focused on bandaging my hands, but ever so often they stared back at me like I was a worm in her presence. I feel the love from all the way here.

From the lab coat she had on, I could see she had a green shirt inside, probably to signify the med team. She had shorts on, obviously as a requirement, and some snickers too.

"What rough hands! You must have been through a lot growing up," she said as she was finishing up on the bandaging.

"Hard training as all. Nothing to spook you, Luiz,"

"Says the guy who kept eyeing me while putting his bandages. You know... I've healed pretty bad injuries since I started this profession, at least enough to know that these rough hands didn't just come from training,"

"Well, would you look at the time! Gotta go, places to be and all that," I said as I freed my hands once she was done bandaging and quickly got to my feet to make my retreat. But before I could, Luis grabbed my hand tightly.

"Um...wait. Sorry if I made you mad. You don't have to talk about it if you don't want to,"

I turned back to her with a surprised look on my face, "Made who mad? And don't do that. It's soooo not part of your character,"

"Doing what?"

"The blushing, and apology, and generally being nice, that,"

"Yeah well... That's because of what you said. And, well... I'd consider it, if you don't die in your next event that is,"

My face turned red in embarrassment when I remembered what I had joked with her earlier. "Yes well, I'd like that. OK bye,"

Well, that was.... interesting. But hey, I've got a class to see. Other priorities later. Wait, I didn't even ask what camp she was from! Definitely my bad.

"Yo Griffin! Still holding up nicely?" I asked as I patted the small boy in the back when I came over to his tent.

"Ouch! Stop that will you! As you can clearly see, I'm still alive, no thanks to you,"

"Hey! I was busy holding that murder beast back to care about such trivial matters,"

"So you consider me a trivial matter?" he asked with a look of devastation while adjusting his glasses.

"You know I'm just joking right? Come on, let's grab Emily and head on over to the class,"

Soon, we were back with the South class after everyone had been taken care of. I spotted Blade talking with Jessie about something. Then they both stared at me and laughed as if I were part of their joke.

I get that my dude is trying to get some action, but insulting me, now that's a new low.

Flintheart was also there with us, with a proud smile.

"You've done extremely well for the first part. I'll be the one to tell you guys who advanced and who didn't,"

The class slowly came to silence.

"Firstly, let me just say that that was a brilliant plan to start the race off like that. Had me surprised as well, and even if not many of you could make it to the finish line, that doesn't necessarily mean you are out of the running. We still have points to count that were totaled from everyone,"

Flintheart called out a list, and unfortunately, around five students couldn't make it, including Jessie and Blade. But to my surprise, they both looked relieved like the were ok with the outcome.

"Now don't you give up hope. At least, most of you don't. Come on, Max. Let's go get our job for second event,"

"Wait, you don't know about the next event?" Griffin asked.

Flintheart just smiled at him. "The next event will be pretty interesting. That's all I can tell you for now,"
