Chereads / THE MONSTER SYSTEM / Chapter 72 - THE YETIS

Chapter 72 - THE YETIS

"Damn! Now I'm thankful the principal got me out of the competition," I said as I stared in pity at my friends who were about to face such walking calamities.

"Even I don't wanna face those things if given a chance," Mr William said.

The things we were talking about just so happened to be one of the top fighters in the snow, and the type of monsters that have yet to form a conscious, or more accurately, don't want to form a conscious.

There are various kinds of yetis that exist in our world and plenty are quite friendly, even forming relations with other monsters. But where there is a more smarter form of a monster, there are always the few that choose not to join the monster society and remain in the olden times.

The Yetis the first years were about to face were those kind of monsters. Why many people despise fighting them is because prior to the other beasts that can only think about eating, mating and surviving, these type of beasts were a whole lot smarter than they looked.

They knew other things like stealing, killing for sport, and in some cases even kidnapping female monsters to have their way with them. Not to increase their ranks mind you. It's just because they can.

What made them even more terrible is that they were more on par with their monster sides than us normal monsters, that even if they are a grade lower like let's say D, they had the strength of a grade C monster.

Most of the Yetis towered over the students, their smug smiles showing they were a lot more conscious with what was going on than they let on.

Just as I said, they were quite tall, with large hairy arms and legs that even through the hair, you could still see their muscles. Their faces were just as hairy as their legs, and you could only just so barely see their pure blue eyes shining through the air and their razor sharp teeth.

From what I've heard about them, the teeth aren't the only sharp weapons they have in their arsenal. If anyone manages to survive these beasts head on after being dealt a good level of damage on them by the rain forest, then they very well deserve the victory for their class.

"Alright, my dear monsters. I've just been informed that in the second part of this exciting race, there is no time limit from this point onwards so you kids have all the time in the world to come up with brilliant plans on how to handle the monsters. Isn't that grand? But don't take too long. Remember, even if their isn't a time limit for this part of the race, there is for the entire race so you better think fast cadets!"

"Ha! Even with all the time in the world, how are they to face those things head on? I'm very sure those muddied sneakers won't do squat on the slippery ice so their movement is also restricted!" I snorted.

"Stop complaining about their challenges if you are not even going to face them yourself! This is a test to see how quick those kids can think in the heat of the moment. The changes in circumstances always happen in battle so this in a way is also to see whether you kids pay attention in class. You think all that knowledge we drilled into you was a waste of everyone's time?!" Mr William defended the race.

"Yeah I know that all the lessons we attended were useful, but honestly, how the hell is mathematics supposed to help us when facing such power before us?!"

Mr William looked at me like I had just offended him in some way. But before we could continue with out little conversation, we suddenly heard a scream back in the race.

"Ooooh! Looks like that girl is out of the running for the lead position," the announcer said.

I scanned the area with my vision and soon zeroed in on the owner of the scream. A girl with a red T-shirt was flailing in fear at the back of a Yeti as it had somehow managed to grab her from her friends as they were trying to come up with a plan for them to succeed.

Now I understand why there were two teachers assigned to to that place. The yeti looked real proud of itself as it quickly made its was to the caves just up ahead, in its head probably thinking that it had won itself a good score today.

But its hopes and ideas were quickly dashed when Mrs Ivory appeared above and suddenly, it was encased in ice from the bottom half.

*Uurgh?*

"Girl, if I rescue you, know you are disqualified from the competition," she said

"YEAH, I DONT CARE! JUST GET ME AWAY FROM THIS THING!" the girl screamed back.

The yeti was not the brightest in pack, sure. But even it could see what was about to happen. And it didn't like it one bit.

*URRGH!*

It screamed in anger and flipped the girl over to the front. Then, facing the teacher, it used the girl as a shield while grabbing her neck tightly.

"That's why I hate such monsters, ladies and gentlemonsters. Using such underhanded tricks just to survive! If it were up to me, that thing doesn't deserve to live!"

The crowd agreed by booing at the Yeti, which couldn't care less of what some 'ants' screamed at it, as long as it had its fun. Then it did some worse. Just to insight the monsters as it realized that it was the centre of attention, it placed its free hand on the West's girl chest and smirked.

The girls face turned beetroot red and she was frozen in shock. But the Yeti did achieve what it wanted. The angered crowd screamed even louder at the indecent act the Yeti had just committed, and it was relishing it!

Mrs Ivory's face scrunched up in anger. Then, through the microphone she had on for communication, she started speaking surprising calmly.

"I was considering leaving it alive for the other kids to face once I freed the girl. I'm changing my plan, anyone mind?" she asked.

The entire line was silent, meaning she was given right to do what she wished. Mrs Ivory smiled evilly and stared down at the smirking Yeti. It saw this and quickly choked up the west girl as a threat not for the teacher to make any sudden movements.

"You damn ugly excuse for a monster! Your fate was sealed the second you touched that girl," she said and suddenly, the Yeti froze in place.

Its eyes widen in shock then horror as suddenly the ice that was below its body was slowly but surely shrinking. It tried finishing the girl off but was frozen in position all of a sudden. I thought that it couldn't move because it was scared, until I saw that it couldn't physically move.

"Oh no. That monster has no idea who it just angered," Mr William said as he stared at the scene.

"How so, Mr William?"

"Simple, really. Mrs Ivory is very good with the ice ability. So much so that she can even freeze the blood in someone's body if given the required conditions. And right know..."

"The conditions have been met, right?"

"...Yeah? How did you guess that?"

"Take a look at the Yeti,"

Mr William quickly returned his attention to the Yeti and could finally see why it was so obvious what had happened.

The Yeti at this point had already let go the girl and was now grasping its throat in pain. Suddenly, two ice tips painfully protruded through its eyes, blinding it completely, but not killing it off just yet.

"UUUUGGHHH!"

The Yeti screamed in pain as it fell on its butt but its eyes were just the least of its problems.

"I feel like the legs should be next," the North teacher calmly said and soon after the Yeti was without a lower half. It now looked completely scared and shaken up by Mrs Ivory that it ignored all its pain and tried scratching its way out as an escape.

"No, no, no, Mr Yeti. You don't get to escape that easily. I've never tried forming ice within the pores of a living being. I wonder whether you can survive that?"

The Yeti stared up at the teacher with pitiful non-existant eyes but Mrs Ivory stared back with an ice cold look in her eyes as she snapped her fingers. With a final ear piercing screaming, its skin turned to clear ice as red spikes came put from its entire body.

The crowd cheered in approval, and I caught myself smiling and quickly wiped it away. Didn't need anyone knowing that I also approved of my least favorite teacher's act. But I wouldn't wish that death on any of my enemies.

"She's one scary lady, I'll tell you that much," Mr William spoke wistfully.

"I'm sorry, why do you have those dreamy eyes on you Mr William? I thought you had a wife!"

"I can have crushes too you know!"

"Nah–uh! You're married!"

"I'm not arguing with you about this,"

"As you can see monsters, the Yetis aren't going to wait for the cadets to come up with a plan! And, I'm just hearing of this know, looks like these Yetis are in their mating season so ladies and boys who have yet to look like actual men, be warned!"

Looking back in the ice field, most classes had regrouped, and were either dodging the Yetis attacking them, or more accurately distracting them from another part of the class that looked to be coming up with ideas. Soon, North are the ones to act first.

"Looks like North are the first to make their move! The class representative Flavo seems to have sent the girls on ahead to keep the Yetis busy. Wait.... Is he planning on leaving with the boys while the girls take care of this?! But why are they heading in the opposite direction?".

"Anyways, East also seemed to have come up with something, cause for some reason, they've now made a battle arrow to pile through the Yetis. I'm not sure about the other two grade A monsters, who look menacing in the back will allow such a thing to happen though,"

"West being with the least students are just barely surviving with the members they have left, killing the Yetis here and there just to gain some points but South..."

"Hey wait a minute, my dear monsters. Can everyone turn back to North please?"

I was just looking at my classmates, trying to see what their plan was but after what the announcer said, I had to see what our competitors were up to.

"Would you look at that! Somehow the boys have made it a top a cliff of ice, and the girls look like they are leading the Yetis towards the rest of the classes while slowly making their way to the front. East are actually the only ones making good progress on the ice by the looks of it,"

"Of course, the Yetis aren't any slackers with the how many girls and boys they've attacked. Good thing the teachers on the field are good at what they do,"

"Anyways, North look like they have something up their sleeves, but South are the ones most surprising. Look at how fast they are gliding through the ice! The Yetis are having a difficult time trying to even catch one of them. Isn't that innovative! Looks like one of them has a hardening ability cause their sneakers seemed to have been modified to take on the ice easily,"

"Their destination surprisingly isn't to clear the course though. It's like they have another goal in mind, cause one thing is certain, they are all heading to the Yetis caves!"

Mr William scratched his chin once again. I've noticed its become a habit of his. "Hey, kid. What do you think North are planning?"

"Nothing good, I can assure you that,"

"Wait, what is that red haired kid doing?"

Flavo waited for all his classmates before he and the boys he was with blasted the ice field. He then screamed downwards.

"AAAAAVAAAALAAANCCHEEEEEE!"
