Aurora's Point of View:
Entering Adrian's childhood home, I couldn't help but feel a mix of eagerness and apprehension. The familiar scent of home-cooked meals wafted through the air, reassuring me. Stacey clung to my hand tightly, curiosity lighting up her eyes.
As we stepped inside, Adrian's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Garcia, greeted us with warm smiles and open arms. It was evident that they were thrilled to meet their granddaughter and me.
"Hey, mom, dad. This is Aurora, and my little one; Ana–"
"You can call me Stacey," my daughter objected, and everyone burst into a fit of laughter.
"Welcome, Aurora and Stacey!" Mr. Garcia said, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "It's such a pleasure to finally have you both here with us."
Mrs. Garcia embraced us tightly as she could; whereas seated on her wheelchair, her voice filled with genuine joy. "Oh, Aurora, my goodness, you are even more beautiful in person. And Stacey, you've grown prettier since the first day we saw you on video chat!"
I gasped.
"Oops! Our little secret, daddy," Stacey said in a low tone, chuckling afterwards.
"Oh no." Adrian slammed his head with his hand in realization. "You were meant to skip that part, mom."
"Adrian?!" I turned around to face him.
He pulled his ears. "I'm sorry. It was Stacey's idea. I guess, she couldn't wait."
"We're sorry, mommy." She bit her upper lip.
I smiled at her cuteness. "No… no, it's okay. There's nothing wrong with that. I'm not mad at you."
"You aren't mad at daddy either?"
"Not at all, baby."
Conversation flowed easily as we settled around the dinner table. Stacey's infectious giggles filled the room, making everyone smile. We shared stories about our lives, our backgrounds, and our hopes for the future. It was heartwarming to witness the instant connection forming between Stacey, her grandparents, and me.
Adrian's father leaned forward, his eyes filled with curiosity. "So, Aurora, tell us about your upbringing. We would love to know more about your family and where you come from."
I smiled, grateful for their interest. "Well, I grew up in a small town near the coast. My parents were both educators, and they instilled a love for learning in me from an early age. I have a younger sister named Annabel, whom I adore. Our family spent a lot of time outdoors, exploring nature and creating beautiful memories together."
Mrs. Garcia nodded, her eyes gleaming with understanding. "Oh, that sounds lovely! We always wanted Adrian to have a deep appreciation for nature too. And Annabel sounds like a wonderful sibling."
"Thank you, Mrs. Garcia."
"Ow, don't make me feel old. Call me mom or Bella."
Mom.
She reminded me so much of my mother - the motherly love, care and affection. So she deserved it.
"Ok, mom." I smiled, and she flashed back a joyous smile.
"Aurora, tell me about the first time you met Adrian," mother-in-law asked.
"At a clu–"
Omg! What the heck was I thinking?
He sharply interrupted. "Well, it was at a café. We bumped into each other, quite literally, and it was love at first sight. We started talking, and the more we got to know each other, the deeper our love grew. And here we are, a family."
"Adrian, you're a lucky man. Aurora is a remarkable woman, and Stacey is lucky to have her as her mother." Mr. Garcia smiled, patting his back.
"Thank you, dad."
Throughout the evening, ma Bella's love for cooking shone as she served a delectable feast. The aroma of savory dishes and the sound of laughter created an atmosphere of joy and togetherness.
Adrian's mother looked at me with a warm smile. "I hope you like the chicken piccata, Aurora. It was one of Adrian's favorite dishes growing up. And for Stacey, I made her favorite macaroni and cheese."
I felt my heart warm with gratitude for the thoughtfulness behind each dish. "Thank you so much, mom. Everything looks absolutely delicious. I can tell how much love and effort you put into preparing this meal."
As the night drew to a close, I realized that the initial nervousness had transformed into a sense of belonging. Adrian's parents welcomed us into their family with open hearts, making me feel cherished and loved.
Adrian's father raised his glass, his eyes filled with emotion. "To the melding of our families, our love, and the beautiful future ahead."
We all clinked our glasses together, sharing in the toast of love and unity.
Together, as the evening ended, we formed memories that would forever solidify the bond between our families. It was a night filled with laughter, heartfelt conversations, and an overwhelming sense of acceptance and love.
