"Why were you at the company today?" Jasper asked.
Zoey arched a brow. "Is there anything wrong in that?"
"Answer the damn question!"
"To request for my maternity leave? That's what you want to hear, right?" she asked.
"No. You have to take a permanent leave."
What the actual heck?
"Explain, please."
"Quit your job," he stated in clarity.
"Wait, why? Can you give me valid reasons?"
"Because I don't want you to work there anymore, okay?"
"Why are you being so insecure? Haven't we talked about this?"
"And why are you stubborn?"
"There's no sense in what you just said," she spat to his face.
"You never listen to what I say, despite us being couples. What the heck is the purpose of this sick relationship? To question my authority and defile my orders?"
"First, we aren't married yet. Remember, we are only engaged. So, I choose to live my life the way I want. I know what's right for me. Secondly, I expected better from you but I don't know what has gotten over you. Did you dump your trust in the gutters?"
"Listen carefully and don't argue with me–"
"No, you should listen to me instead. It's my personal life, okay? You won't dare tell me what to do, and what I ought not. When you've regained your nuts, I'm at my family house," she said, putting her shopping bags in her car trunk.
"Is there anything I'm not doing right? Why does it feel that my decisions don't matter to you?"
"Because it's crazy. I'm not a housewife, sex toy or baby maker. I cannot sit at home doing nothing when I have a functional brain."
"Let's see. I will file a restraining order against him if you push me to the wall."
"You won't dare! Stay away from this, Jasper."
"If you have to resume working there, then heed to my orders. My guards will be assigned to follow you to every corner and give reports at the end of the day."
"Just stop! Have you gone insane? No one is harming me. I can fucking handle myself."
"The three choices are yours to make. Have a nice day, baby." He kissed her cheek.
"Have a nice day, baby," her nose crinkled as she said in a mocking tone, imitating his words as he left for his car.
She shook her head as she hopped into the driver's seat. It was the company's car given to her on her promotion. Her phone beeped when she started the engine. It was a text from Jasper who just left some minutes ago.
Jasper: Oh, I forgot to mention. You can work for me if you want:)
She sighed as she closed the text, not knowing what to reply at the moment. Now, she just confirmed he had lost his mind.
As she drove on, she noticed a black flashy car following her. It was quite familiar. She recognized that same car at the company's parking lot. Either someone was stalking her or the person was sent after her…
"Jasper O'Brien!" she hammered her steering wheel, furious. She couldn't believe he could stoop to that point. Her life was already being monitored. She could imagine him locking her up in a room when they finally get married.
She parked her car beside the road and the person behind did the same thing. Being aware that her mom had been babysitting Trevor all day, she gave up and just drove home.
The car waited at a distance to ensure she drove into her family house before driving away. She just hoped this didn't continue.
