~NENE'S POV~
We attended the school school. Her parents weren't rich but they helped mother set up a business so mama bounced back. we were no longer very poor
All my friends left my side only Munachi stood by me,we became school twins. Two years later, we were preparing to write our common entrance examination, we were very happy that the forms was out. After closing hours, Muna and I ran back home surprised to see people gathered. They were crying.
They were gathered in front of munachi's house. we got inside only to see Mazi Okoro lying dead on the floor. He was covered with a white cloth. Mother was with Aunt Nneka, Munachi's mother consoling her.
"who is Mazi Okoro?". Mark asked
"Munachi's Father"
"hmm" Mark sighed heavily and I continued my story.
"She went at the back of the house to see her elder brother and sister crying profusely.
It was then she understood what was going on; Her dad was gone.
She felt like dying, she felt all hope was lost and that she has lost the biggest thing of her life. She was her favorite. She wept till no tears could come out. I was there to console her. She held onto me and cried her eyes out, i also cried.
Lots of months later, after we wrote our exams to enter JSS 1, i came back home and saw a Jeep parked in front of munachi's house. I went closer and saw her all dressed up richly. Immediately she sighted me she ran to hug me.
"I'll miss you" She said and began to cry
"where are you going to" I asked looking confused.
"We are all traveling to London with mother's new husband, Mr Gerald Coker"
Sh explained
"You mean Aunt Nneka is getting married and you will officially be Coker?
I asked admist tears.
"Yes". She nodded. I hugged her tight and we began to cry.
Aunt Nneka came out with Mr Gerald and began to watch us. Tears was in her eyes.
"Who's she? Mr Gerald asked in a nice English accent.
"Muna's very best friend" she replied.
He went up to us and held my hands.
"Don't worry she will keep in touch with you. Take me to your mother" He said and I took him to mother. After much pleasantries he transfered A million naira into her account not only that, he gave my siblings and I twenty thousand each.
We were all grateful that we thanked him profusely.
We waved good bye before they left, she gave me a necklace which has a pendant made of real gold which is on my neck as a seal of our friendship.
After they left, some months later mom sister, Auntie Efua called me to come stay with her here in Lagos, Nigeria with her two children- two girls. One is my senior and the other, my mate.
And since then I've never heard from munachi although mother said they use to call every week". I ended my story and looked at Mark who was listening with rapt attention.
"Wow, you guys have a lot of things that happened" he said
"Maybe" I replied
" I have this feeling that one day, she will come to visit you here" He told me
" I pray so" I muttered but he heard me.
