Then he spoke aloud to his men, "Have the doctor or nurse come by?"
"Not yet sir." The man who was acting as the leader was still speaking when the doctor came into sight, followed by a nurse. The doctor looked puzzled to see them huddled together in front of the ward.
"Chairman Li, hello. Aren't you going in?"
"I was just about to go in. After you, Doctor." Li Chuanmo said politely. The men behind him turned their faces and began admiring the hospital environment, trying to hide their smiles.
The doctor smiled and proceeded to knock on the door, "Young Miss, it's your doctor. May I come in?"
After a short pause, footsteps were heard and the door slid open. The doctor and nurse went in, but before she could close the door, Li Chuanmo put his foot in and smoothly entered.
Pei Yueran glared at him before walking away. Li Chuanmo rubbed his nose and followed her.
Once she was seated comfortably, the doctor began his examination, asking her questions and writing in her file. He also gave instructions periodically to the nurse standing beside him.
Finally, he turned to her and smiled, "Young Miss, you're recovering quite well, but you need more rest. Try not to stress yourself. If nothing else happens, you can be discharged tomorrow morning."
Pei Yueran smiled faintly, "Thank you doctor." The black bags under her eyes made her look more fragile than usual. Li Chuanmo felt very bad and tried to touch her cheek.
Pei Yueran dodged his hand, stunning him. He then tried to hold her hand, but she chose that moment to fold her hands across her chest.
The doctor and nurse that got treated to the scene of a couple fight: "..."
Li Chuanmo said nothing, only continuing to stare at her.
The doctor could no longer stand the oppressive silence and announced that he would check up on her later in the evening.
Pei Yueran walked them to the door. After they stepped out, she gave Li Chuanmo a look that seemed to say, 'What are you still doing here? Won't you leave?'
In response, Li Chuanmo trained his hazel orbs on her, looking very much like a husband that wanted to admit his wrongs.
Annoyed, Pei Yueran spoke to him for the first time that day, "You can close the door behind you when you're leaving."
As she turned her back to walk back to the bed, Li Chuanmo caught her, one hand around her waist and the other hugging her shoulders. She was effectively ensconced in his arms.
Pei Yueran struggled, but when he lowered his head to her neck, she shivered slightly. They stood like that for long moments without a sound.
"Ran'er, I'm so sorry." It was Li Chuanmo's low voice that slowly broke the silence.
The simple words he murmured into the crook of her neck directly attacked Pei Yueran's fake calm.
She struggled to face him, anger clear on her face. "Let go of me! Sorry? For what? What exactly are you sorry for? Is it for not trusting me? or for the fact that you deceived me?"
Her questions were fired in rapid succession, her eyes bright from the effort.
Li Chuanmo, who had no comeback to that, kept quiet, further angering her. She began to struggle with more effort, almost hurting herself in the process.
Distressed, he loosened his hold on her and tried to calm her down, "Ran'er, please calm down. I was wrong. I admit it."
"Don't tell me to do anything! If you say one more thing, I'll —"
Her words were brought to a halt, because Li Chuanmo suddenly captured her lips in a passionate tangle.
Pei Yueran blanked out in surprise, then she began to struggle with increasing anger. Her teeth were clamped tight as her hands beat at his chest in an attempt to get him to release her, but instead, Li Chuanmo tightened his hold on her waist, holding her snug against him.
The sensation of being joined to him from chest to thighs began to mess with Pei Yueran's mind, making her thoughts incoherent. Even the force she was using to hit his chest began to dwindle, becoming ambiguous.
Sensing her resolve weakening, his hands took the opportunity to travel further downwards, grabbing one plump cheek and gently squeezing it through her hospital clothes.
The shock of that foreign sensation caused Pei Yueran to widen her eyes and open her mouth. Li Chuanmo expertly took the opportunity to slip in.
As their tongues entangled each other, Pei Yueran could feel the anger seeping out of her, replaced by something that could only be described as white hot heat.
At this point, she unconsciously squirmed against him, causing Li Chuanmo to forget his original intention of just using the kiss to appease her.
He reversed their positions and pinned her to the wall, almost swallowing her whole as he began a fierce onslaught. Pei Yueran could hardly keep up. Her hands were locked behind his neck in an attempt to steady herself.
Time passed by in a blur, but eventually Pei Yueran began to feel dizzy and in desperate need of air.
When her body suddenly sagged downwards, Li Chuanmo finally released her lips, picked her in a princess carry and gently deposited her on the bed.
Then he got in himself and cuddled her, while Pei Yueran tried to adjust her breathing and regain her breath.
"This doesn't mean I've forgiven you, not by a long shot." Pei Yueran said after some moments of silence. Her voice that was as soft as a mosquito's served to tickle Li Chuanmo's heart, making him feel even guiltier.
"I understand. I'm really sorry Ran'er. I have absolutely no excuse. I should have told you everything, I just didn't think it through. Please don't be angry."
"Li Chuanmo, did you ever trust me? In your eyes, was I just another one of those women, one that would betray you at any time?" This was the point that pained Pei Yueran the most, and Li Chuanmo could sense it.
Thinking back to the advice his parents gave him about showing her his sincerity, he chose his words carefully.
"Ran Honey, please believe me when I say there's no one I trust more in this world than you. I trust you with every fibre of my being. It's true that it's difficult to know the heart of a person fully, but I believe and admire what I do know about you."
"So why? Why did you do this?" Her voice was a bit choked up.
