Li Chuanmo shook his head to clear it. He realized he was still in Pei Yueran's room. He must have fallen asleep at some point. Both of them were still in their original positions.
He gently laid her down on the bed so that she could sleep more comfortably, rearranged the blanket and left the room.
As he got into his study, he received a call from Gong Anwei. The police had arrested the man that assaulted Pei Yueran. The case had been filed and they would be charged to court in three days.
Li Chuanmo was satisfied. He continued the work he had to do in the study till late at night before going to bed after sending Pei Yueran a good night message.
But the recent events left Gong Anwei feeling as if he was working for a Mafia boss instead of the chairman of one of the largest companies in the country.
Actually, the assailant had been caught by Li Chuanmo's men the very day the attack occurred, but Li Chuanmo felt like handing him over to the police immediately would be too easy for him.
So he took law into his own hands and ordered him to be tortured for several days, before "dropping him off" in front of his house, where the police found him.
Those hands he used to stab Pei Yueran? They had to suffer. The legs he used to walk towards her? They would also be punished!
Unfortunately for Gong Anwei, he was put in charge, since the big boss was busy playing "nanny".
When the police eventually found the assailant, both hands had been broken and both legs dislocated. The strange thing was that the injuries had also been treated —the broken bones had been set and the dislocated bones had been repositioned. The doctors also confirmed that it had been done well.
The police were confused. Was it possible that he got injured on the run and was helped to the hospital by a kind Samaritan?
Gong Anwei: "__"
Just ask my crazy boss.
He had never seen someone who would purposely inflict injury and then also provide treatment. Was he trying to prove he was a good person or what?
But all Gong Anwei could do was complain and deride his boss in his heart. He didn't have the courage to ask him anything directly.

The next morning, Pei Yueran felt well enough to get out of bed and move around her room. It was a very spacious room, so there was ample space.
What she did not know was that the room was originally meant to be a second master bedroom. It had a connecting door that led to the main master bedroom, where Li Chuanmo was currently staying.
But Li Chuanmo didn't think he would have a need for it, so he put a bookshelf in front of it and forgot about it. It opened into the area just beside the closet in the room Pei Yueran was currently using.
Li Yuchen had given her a magazine that did an exclusive feature on their house. For the sake of privacy, it only mentioned general facts and did not go into details. But even that was enough to give Pei Yueran an idea of how ....complicated this house was.
The mansion itself had a medieval feel to it, and the original architect designed it with lots of hidden spaces and spacious rooms. There was also always some sort of connecting mechanisms, especially between the bedrooms on the second floor. It was designed as the family's sleeping space.
There were seven bedrooms in total on the second floor. Since Li Chuanmo had made up his mind that he wasn't going to have a big family, he had two rooms merged into one when the house was being renovated, so there were six rooms currently.
Li Yuchen had persuaded him not to merge any more rooms, since their relatives might come visiting and could stay upstairs with them.
There was also a small kitchen on the second floor, as well as a family room and Li Chuanmo's main study.
The first floor had eight bedrooms in addition to the living room, dining room, kitchens, pantry, store, day room, laundry room, drawing room, restroom, butler's office and ground study. The bedrooms were for the workers. Two additional bedrooms had been set aside —away from the first eight— and were visitor bedrooms.
The third floor had more rooms, but they were not in use. It also had a game room where father and son played games occasionally, when they were not playing in their respective rooms. A ballroom stood just beside it.
Li Yuchen once remarked that he was sure it would never be used. They would never host a ballroom party anyway. His father was so not the party type.
There was also a movie theater that Li Chuanmo had never used. He was not a fan of movies. Li Yuchen had used it before, but he declared it uninteresting to watch a movie alone in such a large-sized theater.
Of course, the truth of it was that he was scared to sit alone in the dark. The movie he watched at the time had some horror scenes too, and he was so frightened that he didn't even finish watching it before running away.
That happened a few days after they started living in the house.
There was also a soundproof basement. It housed a fully equipped gym, where Li Chuanmo regularly worked out. He employed a personal trainer, who regularly coached him and Li Yuchen.
The cellar, located beside the basement contained finely aged wine from top wine producers all over the world.
They had an annex some five hundred metres from the main house. It was where the butler and his family lived. Their current butler lived alone.
The mansion was massive indeed. Pei Yueran decided that she would ask Li Chuanmo to give her a tour of the house before she left.
Speaking of leaving, she felt she would be able to go back in a few more days. Her PA had called her to let her know that her two-week sick leave had been approved, and that she should rest well.
