"Are you comfortable?" Detective Dallas asked.
"Impossible to be comfortable with this," Hunter replied, raising his hand to show the detective his hands were cuffed.
"Goodness, I'm sorry," the blue-eyed woman said. "One moment." She stepped outside the room and a few seconds later, she returned with a key which she used to unlock the cuffs. "Better?"
"Sixty percent comfortable." Hunter rubbed his wrist. "No one has told me why I'm here."
"Someone had called the police because they thought you were acting suspicious. Also, your description fits that of a serial killer on the loose," Detective Dallas.
"So that's why that cop was aggressive."
"Aggres -- Hunter, that's not okay. Do you wish to file a complaint?"
"Nah, it's fine."
"No, it's not," Dallas shook her head. "Can you describe the cop to me, I'll make sure they're properly punished."
"It's fine," Hunter assured. "It's not like I was hurt."
"What if you were?" Detective Dallas asked. "Or what if the cop is left unchecked and they do something similar to someone else and ends up injuring them."
"How long do I have to stay here for?"
Dallas sighs. "Legally, we can't keep you here longer than 24 hours without pressing charges. I came in here with four minutes left."
"So I can go?" Hunter rose to his feet.
"Yes. Let me get your things." The detective went ahead and grabbed the sprite's phone, ATM card, and visa.
"Thank you," Hunter said.
"You're here for the Ultrasonic Fest, right?"
"What?"
"Your visa ... You arrived in Vrotland yesterday, I thought you were here for the music festival that is this weekend."
"No," Hunter shook his head. "I'm here with my girlfriend and her friend for a vacation."
"You wanted to go on a vacation and you chose Vrotland?"
Hunter raised an eyebrow. "Sorry. It's just ... Why?" She asked confused why someone would choose to come to Vrotland for a vacation.
"I wish I could tell you. She's always wanted to come here so here we are and maybe she intends to attend that music festival you mentioned, who knows?"
Dallas stopped by the exit door. "I hope the rest of your stay is more pleasant than your first two days here."
"Me too."
"And hey, if you change your mind about reporting that cop --"
"I know where to find you."
Hunter returned to the house he and his partners had rented. The sprite pushed the door open and found Maxine in front of a laptop and Ishani standing behind her.
The two women turned to the door once it was pushed open. "Look who it is," said Ishani.
"We really need to get you a leash," said Maxine.
"Hunter!" The sprite heard the voice of Camille.
"Was that Camille?"
"No, it was Ishani doing her best Camille impression. Of course it was Camille, dumbass!"
"How was I to know that, idiot!"
"Maybe because I'm in front of a laptop and I'm obviously face timing, stupid!"
"You could've been doing a million other things on your PC. But a buffoon like you probably thinks a PC is meant for one thing."
"Guys!" Camille drew their attention. "Maybe it was a mistake putting you two in the same team."
"The only mistake here is this guy!" Maxine pointed at the teal-green-eyed boy who ignored her and moved closer to the laptop. "Hey," he waved at Camille.
"Don't 'hey' me," said the red-eyed woman. "Where the hell were you?" She asked.
"I went to scout the area but got arrested."
"What for?" Camille asked.
"Probably harassment."
"Shut it, monkey," Hunter said to the brown-eyed woman before shifting his attention to the black-haired woman. "It was a mix-up. I fit the description of some serial killer or something."
Maxine laughs. "You do look like someone that kills people for fun."
Hunter frowns. "Keep talking and you'll find out just how true that statement is."
"Oh, I'm scared," Maxine said sarcastically. "What are you going to do? Convince a ghost to attack me?"
Hunter narrowed his eyes at the shifter.
"Can you two not do this for just one minute?" Camille said. "Thank you. I think it'll be better to postpone the mission," she said.
"Why?"
"You're probably on the Vrotland police's radar right now so try to keep a low profile for the time being. I'll send someone to keep an eye on the drug lord in the meantime."
"Got it."
"Stay out of trouble ... All of you." Camille ends the call.
Maxine turned to the teal-green-eyed boy with a frown. "This was supposed to be a quick mission. I hope you like smelly roads and bad weather because we'll be here for a long time." With that, the brown-skinned woman walked away from the living room and up the stairs.
"Hey Ishani," the sprite waived. "Sorry if I kept you up last night."
"It's fine. It's not like it's the first time," she said the last part silently.
"What?"
"What?"
"..."
"..."
"..."
"What's the deal with you and Maxine anyway?"
"What do you mean?"
"It always seems like your banter is a build-up to something."
"Build up to what? An epic battle?"
"I was gonna say --"
"Yeah, don't you dare."
Ishani laughs. "Okay, I won't. In the UR, police can't keep someone in custody for longer than twenty-four hours without pressing charges. You said it was a mix up so how come you were there for so long?" She asks.
"I don't know, they just left me alone in the interrogation room until it was remaining five minutes."
"They didn't question you?"
"No," Hunter shook his head. "When a cop came in, it was to say I'm free to go."
"The hell? You know you can sue them right?"
"What's with everyone and trying to make me file a suit today?"
"Probably because you've been wronged?"
Hunter shrugged. "It's whatever really, but I think Camille's right about me in the police's radar."
"Why do you think so?" Ishani asked.
"That red Ferrari outside followed me from the police station."
Ishani moved to the window and slightly raised the curtain to check for the car. "It's still here."
"I know. I told the cops I'm here with my girlfriend."
The dark brown-skinned woman's expression changes. "What are you saying?"
"Ishani Parmar. Would you go out with me?"
