Chapter 77 - Day of Days

"We are not afraid of you, Cal-Ra. The free state of Dyrkthi would never follow your nefarious ways," said the man. His skin was red and he wore a crown, shouting his words from his throne, on which his slaves had carried him. "Look around you," he continued. "Twenty thousand free Dyrkthin men have raised arms against you and we will fight to defend our country until the end of times, even if that means starting a war that would never end, as long as even a single Dyrkthin draws breath, you will never set foot in our nation."

"War ... I'm sick and tired of wars." His eyes suddenly turn black and the weather changes too, dark like it was night or about to rain.

He extended his hand and a longsword appeared in it, the blade was surrounded with what looked like black smoke and had a dark aura about it.

"Whoever brings me his head would be granted a hundred slaves and ten thousand gold coins!" The King promised and his men charged forward, all twenty thousand of them hoping to get the reward.

Despite being a non-mystic, he moved with supernatural speed, cutting and slicing his way through the army of red-skinned men until their greater number made it difficult for him to force his way through.

He stabbed his sword to the ground and launched himself further into their midst, landing several hundred meters from where he jumped. He clenched his fist and began boxing his way through them until their numbers began to overwhelm him.

The non-mystic then outstretched his hand and his longsword flew out of the ground in which he had planted it and made its way to him, slashing and cutting plenty of the soldiers as it does so.

When the blade got close to him, he punched it, changing its course towards the King of the Dyrkthin.

The King of the red-skinned men sat stunned as the blade grazed his face and into the back of his throne. "What are you looking at?!" He shouted at the men around him. "Go and kill him!" The King ordered.

He raised his hand and beams from the sky, black in color began raining down on the army of Dyrkthin men, killing them.

He launched himself once more and landed on the throne.

"Wait! Wait!" The King pleaded. "We surrender, we surrender," the Dyrkthin King said.

"You surrender? It seems time works differently in the free state of Dyrkthi," he said before mercilessly severing the King's head from his body.

Hunter walks into the manor. "Zoe?" He shouted but to no response. He heard some bustling and then Zoe walks out from one of the rooms with a large cake in hand. "Happy birthday to you," she sings.

"Huh? What the hell's going on here?" He said surprised at what was happening.

"I checked your apartment in the Met school but you weren't around and since it's your birthday today I decided to come here to surprise you," said the gray-eyed girl. "I saw your date of birth in your Met school registration form, hope you aren't mad?"

Hunter looks around the room once more. There was no sign that anything was wrong, everything was just the way he left it except for a wrapped box on the couch. "Did you send the message to my phone?" He asked.

"What message? What are you talking about?" Zoe queried with a raised eyebrow.

"Zoe ..." Hunter looked through the window to see a portal appearing in the front yard. "If you didn't send the message then --"

Before Hunter could finish his thought, Circe, who just stepped out of the portal that just appeared uses her index finger to aim at the house.

"Zoe!" Hunter exclaimed but before he could do anything, Circe shoots a mauve-colored energy beam from her finger that breaks the window and into the room.

"Hunter --" Zoe said softly, her voice low, almost a whisper. Her eyes were slightly wider than normal with beads of sweat all over her face, the fiend had moved as fast as she could to shield Hunter from the attack.

The sprite immediately got a feeling of déjà vu, and it was in no way humorous. The cake fell off her hand, crashing on the ground. Zoe dropped first to her knees before falling to the ground. Hunter rushed to her side, pulling the fiend's head to his lap as she coughs out blood. She had been caught by Circe's energy beam, the attack going through her sternum.

"Hunter," She said gently.

"No, no. Don't say anything," said the sprite but the fiend does not stop. "Let's -- let's ..."

The sprite bites into his skin until he draws blood. Hunter feeds the gray-eyed girl his blood but the latter only coughs up some more.

The sprite looks down to the wound on her chest and up to her face which was now turning pale. "It's not working! Waleed, why isn't it working!" He shouted.

[Hunter ... That attack, you know what it does]

"But you can save her, right? Like you did Sophia," he stated.

[Sophia was a non-mystic so it was possible but Zoe is a mystic ... I'm afraid there's nothing I can do that would end well]

Hunter turned to Zoe. "No, no, no! You owe me a favor, remember? I want you to hang on, that's all I want!" He cried biting and tearing his flesh some more to get blood to feed the fiend only to meet with the same result.

"S- Stop," said the dark-haired girl. "Hunter, let's make one more deal," she finally managed to get out.

"Anything Zoe, anything," he promised his eyes getting watery.

...

"T - Thank you, Hunter ... I - I - I love you."

Hunter sniffed, "I love you too ..."

Zoe smiles and then her body goes limb. "I love you, Zoe, I lo --" The sprite breaks down and begins crying.

The sprite holds Zoe's body close to himself while from outside Circe continues to shoot her mauve-colored beam energy that gradually wrecks the room, rubbles from the roof falling on and burying the sprite.

Outside, a loud thunderbolt rocks the sky, and drops of rain start to fall, Circe quickly forms a large energy dome around the entire neighborhood such that nothing can exit or enter, not even the rain.
