*SOME DAYS EARLIER*
"We talk about everything," said Leah. "She would have told me what to do before setting off on a mission this long. You have to believe me, Hunter!" She said pleadingly.
Hunter sighs. "I believe you acting in good faith Leah but I also do not agree Circe would have taken Jade. Why would she do that?"
Leah let go of his arm defeated. "However," the sprite continued, "I will not make the same mistake I did with René ... I'm going to find a way to lure her out of her house while you investigate, see if you can find anything," he said.
Leah's face brightens up. "Sure. When are we doing that?"
"Um ... Not today ... I'll let you know when I'm free to pull that off," Hunter said. "One more thing, after we search Circe's home and find that she never lied about Jade, we are both coming clean and apologizing to her," the sprite stated. "Understood?"
"Yes. So what should I do today?" Leah asked.
...
*PRESENT DAY*
"So? What are we doing?" Circe asked with a small smile.
"I honestly had nothing in mind," Hunter responded. "I was hoping we do something spontaneous," she said.
"I can think of something spontaneous we could do." As she said it, she took his hand in hers and insert his thumb in her mouth before gently sucking on it.
"Wow."
"You sure like saying that word," Circe said.
"Only because you give me reasons to," he replies.
The yellow-eyed woman smiles before leaning in and planting a kiss on his lips. "Come on baby girl, I'm sure we can find something interesting for the both of us," she said.
"Oi! What did we say about that damn name?!"
*ELSEWHERE*
Leah walked into Circe's apartment, she wasn't even sure what she was looking for but Hunter did say this was the best place to search. "Her bedroom, her office, her closet, the basement - search everywhere."
She sighed as she pushed the door to the bedroom open. At first sight, there was nothing out of the ordinary but Leah decided to search the room anyways. She went through everything more than once until she was certain there was nothing to be found, two hours had already passed when she decided to move to the next room; the office.
A couple of hours later, she moved down to the basement after her search in the office proved fruitless. Her phone vibrates and the vampire jumped a bit before shaking her head at her silliness. She took out her phone to see who had texted her.
From Hunter| Found anything yet?
To Hunter|Nothing ... About to search the basement. How are you doing?
From Hunter|Okay for now but I'm running out of ideas.
Leah shoves her phone back into her pocket before starting her search of the basement. An hour passed, then another and another and the brown-skinned girl was just about to give up on her search when she stumbled across a flash drive, she thought about setting it aside but then decided to look through it.
She started making her way back to the office, she had seen a laptop there but her phone vibrates again. The vampire takes out her device and looked at the screen.
From Hunter| Are you out?
To Hunter| Not yet. Can you keep stalling?
She was about to place the phone back in her pocket when it suddenly vibrates.
From Hunter| Afraid not, we're on our way there now.
'Shit!' Leah cussed before racing back to the office but just as she was about to push the door open, she felt something slowly make its way towards her. The turquoise-eyed girl froze before turning back to see who it was.
Leah let out a sigh of relief when she found that it was just one of Circe's floating lamps. She pushed the door open and quickly fired up the laptop.
It felt like it took forever for the portable computer to turn on but when it finally did, Leah inserted the flash drive and opened it. The drive contained a single file but said file contained over a hundred videos all of which were dated, the oldest being three months ago.
Leah scrolled down and clicked on one of the latest videos.
It started with Circe speaking to the camera which must have been muted as Leah couldn't hear anything. The vampire forwards the video a bit and at this point, Circe is pointing to something inside a glass chamber.
The video definition was blurry and the camera angle was bad but the more Leah looked, the more that 'something' resembled a person.
Circe then clicked on a button and the glass chamber is filled with smoke. Leah's phone vibrates and the vampire forwards the video to the point where the smoke inside the chamber had dissipate. There was no longer any person rather it was a large wolf.
Leah looked at her phone to see what the message was.
From Hunter| We're close to the house.
Leah get out of there now!
...
Circe punched the password to the apartment before looking back at Hunter with a smile. "What are you waiting for?"
The sprite forces a smile. "Nothing, let's go in."
They walked into the apartment and Circe held an enchanting smile. "Is that Judith?" He asked pointing at the floating lamp that was making its way across the room.
"Yes," she smiled. "Can you stay here for a minute?"
"Sure," Hunter replied as the light red-haired woman goes up the stairs. Hunter quickly takes out his phone to text Leah.
To Leah| Please tell me you're not in the house.
There was no response at first but then the sprite's phone vibrates.
From Leah| I'm out.
To Leah| Great! Did you find anything?
From Leah| I think so ... I don't know what to make of it.
To Leah| Let's meet up at the park in three hours.
From Leah| Okay.
"Hi." The sprite was startled by the suddenness but looked up to see Circe standing on the stairs.
"You sure you're okay?" Circe asked worried.
"Yup."
"If you say so ... What do you think of my dress?"
Hunter swallowed, he didn't even notice the yellow-eyed woman had changed her attire, she was now wearing a lacy nightwear. "You look ... great."
"Great? That's all I get?" She elegantly made her way down the stairs and towards the dark-haired boy.
"That wasn't what I was going for ..."
...
Leah waited at the park for Hunter, it was late into the night and there were still around ten minutes before the time Hunter said they should meet but the vampire had been at the park since an hour ago, she had nowhere else to be and didn't want to disappoint the sprite by arriving late.
Leah heard the sound of a twig breaking and looked up to see a figure standing in the dark.
The figure began moving towards her and Leah's hands moved to her back where her gun was.
"You really are nothing but a dog," the figure said.
"Ci - Circe?" Leah said surprised.
The light red-haired woman stepped out of the dark and into the light where the vampire could see her face. "When Jade was around, you latched on to her, obeying her every word and command, and now that she's gone? You move to a new master; Hunter Heffernan. You just can't function without someone holding that leash, can you?"
"Stay where you are," Leah demanded but the light red-haired woman continued to move forward.
"You've been a bad, bad, doggie," Circe continued.
"Don't step any closer! I'm warning you," warned the vampire. "Stop! Or --"
"Or what? Tell me this Leah, when was the last time you used your vampire abilities?" Circe asked stepping closer to the turquoise-eyed woman. "You can't remember, can you? You're the literal definition of a leech; just feed and do nothing else," she continued. "What else do you have in your arsenal? That's right, guns, and we both know those wouldn't do any harm to me. How about you save both of our time and you hand me the flash drive?"
Leah hands the flash drive to Circe, sighing as she does so. The leader of the public safety and demon control agency collects the drive and it immediately catches fire as soon as she holds it in her hand.
"How did you know Hunter is the Dark Majesty's vessel?" Leah asked.
"Because I can see him," Circe replied.
Leah's eyes widen as she realized what the yellow-eyed woman meant. It was now starting to make sense Circe only saved Hunter because she could see the Dark Majesty; she had specter eyes. However, there was one thing the vampire couldn't quite understand. "Why?" She asked.
"I don't understand the question," Circe said genuinely confused.
"Why would you save him when you know he is the Dark Majesty's vessel? You were strongly against us during the class wars," said Leah.
"Aw." Circe places her hand on Leah's face and gently caresses her cheeks. "I was always on the Dark Majesty's side," she claimed.
Leah shivers. "Are you going to kill me?" She asked, her voice was low and shaky.
Circe smiles. "Who am I to pass judgment on you?" Her hand drops down to Leah's shoulder before she snaps the latter's neck. "Goodnight Leah, when you wake up, everything would be much better."
