Chereads / Chaos War / Chapter 56 - Odd

Chapter 56 - Odd

The ground was soft with brown sand and the sky was orange with a bit of yellow. The air was warm and eerie. Hunter couldn't see the sun but the place was bright.

"So this is Hel," Ishani said taking it in.

"Yeah ... I don't know why I expected more color," Hunter said.

[You haven't seen anything yet. Get moving and find a place to summon Bahajid]

Hunter looked around. "This seems like a secluded spot," he said before clearing his throat.

"Bahajid! I summon thee from the depths of whatever shit hole you're at!" The sprite shouted.

"The fuck type of summon is that?" Ishani asked.

Hunter shrugs. "It's what I was given," he replies.

"Why so aggressive?" A voice said from behind them, it sounded like it was from a little child. The duo turned back to see what resembled a young man with waist-length violet hair and violet eyes. He had six spiderlike legs that looked like giant hands.

"You're Bahajid?" Hunter asked.

"Yes. Alastair sent you, didn't he?" He asked moving in circles around the Metropolitan School of Mysticism students.

"Yes," Hunter replied, flicking a coin over to Bahajid.

"Ah," the pure demon says as he inspects the bronze disc. "He's cashing in his favor? Must be important," says the violet-haired demon. "What is it?" Bahajid asked creeping close to Ishani.

"Do you know where Naamah is?"

Bahajid moves from the battlemage to the back of the sprite. He placed his hands on the dark-haired boy's shoulders before leaning down so that his head is at the same level as Hunter's. "Do you know who you are talking to? I am Bahajid! I see all and know all!" He claimed before moving away from them both and flicking the coin back to Hunter.

"You can keep the coin, I'll tell you where she is anyways," he said.

[Refuse]

"I'm fine," Hunter said flicking the coin back to the pure demon. "Just tell us what you know and we'll be on our way."

"Er ... What is going on right now?" Ishani asked but Hunter pays her no mind, his eyes focused on Bahajid's.

"May I ask why? I'm offering to give you the information for free; think of it as a first-time customer gift," the suggested.

"We don't need any gifts, what we would like is the information we came here for," Hunter stated.

"Very well," Bahajid said as he closed tightly his hand with the coin in it but when he reopens the hand, in place of the coin was a compass. The pure demon tosses the device to Hunter who catches it and takes a good look at it. "What's this?" The sprite asked.

"What does it look like? It will take you straight to her," he said.

"Wow ... Thanks," Hunter said.

"Nothing to thank me for. After all, I was only repaying a favor I owed," the pure demon says. "If there's nothing else, I'll be on my way now," Bahajid said.

"You two mind looking away?" Bahajid said. "It's kinda awkward doing the whole disappearing thing when you both are staring into my soul," he stated.

"Sure, we'll be on our way too," Hunter said as he turned his back to the demon and looked into the compass. "We're actually going this way," Hunter said turning back to see that Bahajid was already gone. "Hm."

"Let's go Ishani and sorry for ignoring you earlier," the sprite apologized.

"It's alright. I was just confused by the whole thing. What was that about?" She asked.

"Bahajid was trying to make me owe him a favor," he explained.

"He was? I thought he was just being kind since he offered to help us for free?" Ishani asked.

"No, he wasn't. He's a pure demon there's no way he'd help us for free ... What year are you in the Met school if you don't mind me asking?"

"I'm a year 4 student and I see what you're getting at," she frowns.

Hunter threw his hands in the air. "What am I getting at?"

"You think I'm naïve," she stated.

"No, I don't think you're naive, I'm just surprised you think a pure demon was doing something without expecting anything in return," the sprite tried to explain.

Ishani raises an eyebrow. "You literally just said you think I'm naïve," she stated.

"Oh yeah, I guess I did. Sorry," said the sprite.

"I'm not mad, it's just ... Unlike you, I'm not part of the demon control agency so I have no idea how demons think. I've only met two demons and both of them were vetted by a committee before I did," she stated.

"Ah ... Well, buckle up, you're about to learn a lot," Hunter said.

"Teach me your ways, sensei!"
