Chereads / Chaos War / Chapter 19 - Mid Point

Chapter 19 - Mid Point

He walks into the fancy building eyeing the statues, they were beautifully lined up on each side of the corridor. He hears something zip past behind but he doesn't stop moving forward.

"You won't see the next sunlight if you try it," he warned.

"You're no fun!" Alastair said stepping out of the shadow and walking up to him.

"Why am I here, Alastair?" He asked, turning around to face him.

Alastair sighs, "straight down to business I see ... Leah tells me you plan on unifying Hel with Lilith as the sole ruler," he says.

He raises an eyebrow, "you called me out here to question my decision?" He asks.

"No, of course not," he waves his hand, "I wanted to ask about your form ... You know a war is coming," he states.

He laughs, before looking into Alastair's eyes, his face more serious than since he first stepped into the building, "why don't we spar for a bit, if you manage to knock me off my feet, you can do with Hel as you wish."

"You sure?" Alastair says, "you're only human," he said.

"Oh come on, I'm sure there's still a chance you'd win," he stated.

.

.

Hunter opened his eyes and check the time on his phone, it was still 4 am.

[I take it you saw another one of my memories]

'Yes ... You knew Alastair?'

[Yes. What exactly did you see?]

'The one where you challenged him to a duel ... Who won?'

[Me of course, he couldn't even land a punch.]

'Were you two close?'

[Yes]

'How come Jade doesn't want him to know about you then since the two of you are friends?'

[Beats me but Jade and I have been allies long before I knew Alastair so if she doesn't want him to know about me, there must be a reason why]

Hunter got up from the bed and throws on a tee shirt and wears a pair of shoes before walking out of his room.

...

As Hunter jogs around the school, he heard someone call his name.

"Hunter," the person called, he turned to see Sydney, wearing a white crop top and black flexible formfitting pants. "Hey Syd," he greeted as she moved up to his side and they began jogging together.

"I've been meaning to call, congratulations on the hat trick."

"Thanks," he smiled, "how are the werewolves faring?"

"Good," she says, "very good actually."

"That's amazing."

"Yeah, if we both win our matches tomorrow we'd face each other in the semifinals," she said.

"For real?" He asked, surprised by the revelation, "what about Martin and his team of conjurers?" He asked

"Actually, the conjurers are out," she stated

"Oh, I'm sure it was a close match."

"Nope," the orange-haired girl said, "they were absolutely obliterated by the elementals," she stated.

"Have you been hanging out with Zoe?" He asks

Sydney laughs, "I saw her on the Sprites bench in your last matches."

"Yeah, she's our assistant coach," he replied

"Oh, I recall she didn't like you during our study tour."

"First off, she didn't like any of us back then and I think she's starting to warm up to me though I wouldn't say she likes me, it's more like she tolerates me."

"What's it like, being in her good graces?" Sydney asks

"Not much different from when she hates you, she'll be like; oi, you're a fool if you think your side could make it to the final," he said, changing his voice to sound like Zoe's.

Sydney laughs, "why do you sound like a dying cat falling down a pit?"

"wow," he laughs, "are you really shaming my voice impersonation right now?"

"Because Zoe sounds nothing like that, she sounds more like: need I remind you imbeciles we are here to study and not take pictures of the Colosseum?!" She says, doing a near-perfect impersonation of Zoe.

"What would we study at the Colosseum?" He asks

"Of course, you fool have no idea what we are here to do, we came to study the rocks of the Colosseum, they are so old and ... rocky," she said, still sounding like Zoe.

"Okay, that one was close," he concedes.

"I know right?" She said, both of them laughing and jogging around the Metropolitan school until daybreak.

The day passed and the next day came with an Inter-order competition the Sprites won.

After the match was finished, Hunter remembered to call Sydney to ask about hers. "Hey," he said once she picked up.

"Hey yourself, look at section 7," she said.

Hunter looked through the arena, searching for section 7 where he sees Sydney waving at him from the stands. "Hope you're ready to lose?" She says confidently.

"You're too cute for that to sound scary!" He claimed

"Oh come on! I rehearsed that like 30 times in my head," she said, Hunter could tell she was pouting.

"Bah, I suggest dropping the theatrics and letting your fight do the talking for you," he stated.

"Woah, did you rehearse that?" She asked

"'Course not," he replied

"Gimme a second, I need to think of a better response," she says.

"Sure, take your time."

There's a small silence from the other side of the phone as Hunter waited for Sydney to craft her perfect reply.

"I can't think of anything," she finally said

"Aww, that's fine," he said, "you have until Friday to think of one."

"You got it, bye."

She ends the call before waving one last time at him and then walking out of the arena.

Hunter places the phone in his pocket, a smile lingering on his face.

[Stop smiling, you look like an idiot]

'Right'
