Chereads / THE FOURTH HUSBAND / Chapter 16 - 15

Chapter 16 - 15

Anthonette found herself dressed in a wedding gown with a viel swept over her face.

She studied her surrounding, she was Midway to the aisle with only the groom at the altar.

Just one look she was positive that it wasn't the Duke.

"Where am I ?"

"Who are you ?"

"Where is Ezra ?"

"The Duke is dead.." a whisper seeps through her ears.

The strange person turns her back, she could clearly see it was Eden.

"I told you I would make you mine..."

_

Anthonette opened her eyes. It was already evening and she was sweating. She looked around to see Violette huddling in a spot close to the end of her bed.

It was night now, it was time to put that potion to good use.

She immediately got changed into pants and a top. She wore a cape on top of her outfit. Violette who woke up got up to adjust her outfit.

"My lady you can back out if you're scared." Anthonette was scared shitless but she's come too far to back off now.

"I'll be fine, are you ready as well ?"

Anthonette and Violette each put a necklace around their neck. They each recited different incantation to activate the necklace.

The necklace glowed and soon enough they transformed.

Violette transformed into Anthonette while Anthonette transformed into what was registered to the pendant.

"We are lucky the mage registered one of you as well, let's just hope the Duke never comes to know of this." Violette said as Anthonette tapped her shoulder. "You'll keep your head. Don't worry." Soon a guard walked in, he bowed to Violette and turned to Anthonette.

"I'll be your escort, I won't follow you till the end so please be attentive during the guide." Anthonette nodded waving at Violette who heaved a sigh of relief.

She watched as the door shut behind Anthonette. She jumped on the bed cradling herself to sleep again. "Be careful princess.." she prayed.

_

Anthonette didn't feel too good. She hoped the potion wasn't activated yet. She didn't want to mess the mission and get Violette in trouble. She and her escort came to her stop before they stopped at a scenery resembling the woods. "This is my stop. The Inn is deep into the woods."

"Do locals really visit the Inn ?" The man nodded. "Then I'll get going then. Don't leave me." Anthonette warned.

"The Duke will behead me if I did my lady." Anthonette could tell already the man knew who she was. "How did you know ?"

"You should work on the way you speak my lady. Also I saw you buying another pendant and registering your face." Anthonette couldn't be further disappointed.

She really wanted to fool the guards. And the fact that they let her smell like trouble.

"Does the duke know ?"

"No."

"Will he know ?"

"That's if you don't die." The man bluntly replied. "You'll be late, go. I won't leave you my lady the moment you finish the job I'll come running to you."

Anthonette nodded and runs deep into the forest. She soon slowed down when she felt like she was getting lost.

She grumbled as she goes deeper into the forest till she heard voices. She followed the voices and spotted the Inn. She approaches the Inn while noticing people like her who wore capes. She adjusted the cape on top of her head to avoid being discovered.

Anthonette caught the attention of a few people when she walked in. She hid her face the more because the face registered on the pendant would garner attention.

She finds a spot, takes her seat and orders to blend in.

"Hey.."

"You, I'm talking to you."

"Answer me." Anthonette slightly looked up to see Amos, her first husband talking to her. She finally realized she didn't have her face at the moment so she calmed down.

"You're new aren't you ?

Newbies pay for drinks." He looked like he was drunk.

"Pay for my drink will you ?" Anthonette really didn't want to deal with this now, she had to gather information.

"Stop ignoring me." He got up and immediately went to yanking the collars of her cape. "You look familiar." He said about to take off her cape but she sent a punch flying.

Everyone in the room began to mummur as Amos back down wincing in pain. He as well swung a fist to her stomach.

Amos thought he had won when Anthonette fell to the floor with her hands wrapped over her stomach.

"Get up Newbie. You still have to buy me drinks." He said reaching out to unveil her cape.

"What is the meaning of this Amos ? The meeting hasn't started but yet you're bullying once again." The man noticed Anthonette in pain and stooped to her level stretching out a hand.

The moment Anthonette's eyes met with the man, he froze. He backed up a bit falling to his face.

"Please forgive me great prophet." Amos didn't understand why his comrade was bowing down to a newbie.

"What's happening ?"

"What's with him ?"

"He said prophet is she really here ?"

Anthonette thought she might use the situation to her advantage so she finally took off her cape.

Everyone in the room marveled at her baby blue hair and deep blue eyes. "I see you accept lowlifes here as well, after all I've done for you this is the thanks I get..."

The man found it strange why the Empress was here, wasn't she supposed to be hiding.

She didn't even have her men that she rarely ever leaves behind.

"Your highness I didn't know you were coming. You normally alert us before a visit... "

"Silence, die..."

"Die ?" The man mutters confused.

On the 15th a meeting will be held in an Inn

Your job is to infiltrate the Inn....

Once you infiltrate the inn burn it to ashes.

Anthonette's eyes turned red, immediately the Inn caught on fire and anyone who valued their life ran out of the Inn.

She made sure everything burned.

She came out unharmed but her clothes were tattered.

Her eyes met with Amos who had nothing but fear in his eyes. He survived unfortunately.

He ran leaving her in the mess she created. She took off the cape and tossed it aside. If not for the potion she would have died in the fire. She's glad the protective spell works as well as the offensive spell.

She left immediately with few eyes on her who couldn't do anything but stare.

_

"I know what I saw. I'm not crazy." Soren paused noticing the man bothering Penelope. She kept telling him it was impossible but he insisted. "You weren't there. The woman burnt down my Inn, I want to sue."

"Which woman ?" Soren asked butting in the conversation.

"The Empress..." The man muttered.

"Do you know what you are saying ?" Soren questioned. "Are you sure you're not confusing her for another woman ?"

"I'm not that old. I wasn't the only one that saw her. The Infirmary is crawling with people with burn scars." Soren looked to Penelope.

"Is that true ?"

Penelope nodded. "It's in line with this morning papers. About 34 was injured. Nobody was found dead."

Soren nodded leaving the old man to Penelope. "How would you get out of this Delilah ?"
