"Damn" I shouted. Slamming my fist on my desk. I couldn't believe Lia was on some bullshit yet again.
"Tell her by tonight or I will" Alia said calmly through the phone. I leaned back in my chair and smirked. "Come on now Lia… you and I both know you can say whatever I promise you she'd never believe you over me. So go right ahead. Cause you know you'll only be making my day by saving me the extra money every month" I tapped my pen on the desk as I could tell I was starting to get her attention. "Now that I got your ear… did you give Asiah my gift yet" Lia smacked her teeth, and I could feel the attitude coming. "Before you even waste your breath to go off. Give it to her once she's home from school and have her FaceTime me after. You'll change your tone by then trust me" Lia hung up and all I could do was laugh.
These women would be the death of me I swear. Now I knew things were getting old for Alia but what did she expect? She knew what it was from jump so why is she tryna act brand new now. Maybe jealousy. Probably thought I'd never marry Vicki, but I knew from the moment I laid eyes on Victoria she'd be mine forever. I know I'm dead wrong for still sleeping around but to me this is how I keep up with her. To keep a woman like Victoria you'd have to be on your A game always. So that's exactly what I'd been doing. Now the how was absolutely wrong and after the wedding it'd definitely be over for sure.
My secretary Tonya knocked on the door "Come in" I unbuttoned my blazer and sat up in my chair. "Ms. Mitchell your 2-o clock is here. Are you ready for her" Tonya walked in sitting my coffee and two folders on my desk. "Yes, please bring her back and Tonya... thank you for the coffee. That is a beautiful necklace by the way please leave me info on where I can get one for the Misses" Tonya nodded and shut the door exclaiming she'd put the information on my desk shortly after my meeting. Tonya was beautiful but I learned a long time ago never shit where you eat. So, mixing my business with pleasure was a huge no no for me. I got up from my desk ready to see what Mrs. Adelestein had for me today. I swear owning my own law firm was no easy task but clients like her will forever keep me in business that's for sure. I chuckled at the thought of the last lawsuit she had me file for her. As I saw them walking back towards my office, I opened the door for them, noticing that Mrs. Adelestein was all tears.
"Mrs. Adelestein what can I do for you today?" As she tried her best to collect herself, I passed her a box of tissues.
"He… He's gone…" I asked Tonya to bring us some water and I closed my door behind her. "Who ma'am" I asked as I rubbed her back trying to console her. "My Roger. He's gone… an... i-"
"I'll handle it right away ma'am" I rushed to cut her off knowing this was going to be hard for her and knew exactly what she needed. I pulled up Rogers' will and paged Tonya to ask Stacey to come to my office. "Mrs. Adelestein, I have Stacey coming in to help with this where this is her area of expertise, she will make sure you are informed on everything that Roger spoke with us about to prepare for this day" she began to cry harder as I finished my sentence. Stacey walked in and Tonya rolled in the tv to play the tape Roger left for us to play for his wife. Passing out water to everyone right before leaving Tonya turned and asked was their anything else we needed. "No thank you please hold all my calls until after we are done here" she nodded closing the door behind herself.
Stacey spoke up "before I began the tape Mrs. Adelestein did you and your husband discuss his last will and testament with you" Mrs. Adelestein burst into tears all over again and I signaled for Stacey to just continue with the tape. The tv buzzed as Mrs. Adelestein's late husband came across the screen. "Hi honey... unfortunately if you're seeing this it means my time here with you has passed. I want you to know I truly miss you and love you dearly. I want to start by leaving you and our two children everything. Split equally. The house of course to you. The summer home to our daughter and winter estate to our son. I leave my company to the children and you a 60% share with which you can decide what to do. I am doing this all on the condition that you all will continue to use Ms. Mitchell's law firm for any and all legal matters. This is my final will and testament. I am of sound body and mind" Stacey switched off the tv an passed the tape to Mrs. Adelestein "please take this with you he wanted you to have it" Mrs. Adelestein grabbed it and sobbed softly "of course we will continue with you all. Danielle, you've helped my family for years now and I won't see it any other way. Thank you for this" I gave her a hug and helped her stand. "Of course, Mrs. Adelestein and thank you all for having faith in me from day one. I truly appreciate your family more than you know" she smiled and hugged me again "Amy. Call me Amy honey" she walked out the door and turned back to face me "oh I meant to send this in the mail but since I'm here I can just give it to you" she handed me an envelope with an invitation card as well. "What's this Mrs.- I mean Amy" she smiled "that's what I feel I owe you personally and the invitation is for Andrew's wedding. Please bring Victoria with you" I nodded and peaked in on the envelope. Before I could even thank or return the money she had already left. I smiled at what looked like 50k in my hand and shook my head "that old lady a fool" I chuckled to myself as I sat back in my chair. My mind wandered to Vicki, and I reached for the phone to call her when the light blinked instead. I picked up the phone and Tonya said it was Vicki on the line for me. "Hey baby I was literally just thinking about you and grabbing the phone to call you" I smiled and leaned back in my chair.
"Hey baby I bet because you picked up so quick. How much longer cause I wanna get your opinion on something can you FaceTime me" I immediately grabbed my phone from my drawer and called "damn baby you really must miss me" she said laughing. "I do woman now where's my kiss at" she kissed the camera and my heart melted. "So what's up baby what you need" she turned the camera around "do you like this dress or that one" I searched the dresses and imagined myself peeling her out of each one "I love the black one baby" she smiled and let out a sigh of relief "good cause the other one cost way more and didn't fit as well as this one" I smiled "speaking of money, Mrs. Adelestein was just here. You know she gave us a invitation to her sons wedding and an envelope with about 50 in it" her eyes bugged out her head "are you serious 50 tho-" I rushed to interrupt "yea baby that's correct and we will be splurging so if you want both get both baby" she laughed "no baby I don't need the other one but I will spend a little more on your surprise for desert" I had a flashback to this morning and licked my lips "mmm yea you do that baby cause we definitely will be finishing what we started earlier" she blew me a kiss and we said our goodbyes.
Finally! I was so happy it was 5, I am ready to get out of this office. I looked at my phone and saw I missed a call from Asiah so I facetimed back "hey sweetie did you get your gift" she turned the camera around so happy "yes thank you Danni I can't wait to go and pick out some nice outfits for the princess ball" I smiled "I'm so glad you love it sweetie I can't wait to take you now put your mom on" I gathered my keys and locked my office heading to the parking garage "did you see your part of the gift big head" she rolled her eyes "yea I saw the money and the coat. " I shook my head and hung up. Swear I don't need to keep her around my phone rang again "hello" Alia sighed "are you on your way here?" I started my car "why? You fixed your attitude yet?"
"Can you just come on... you know I miss you and I need that …Tonight" I was halfway home "nah not tonight, Lia. Maybe some other time" I hung and put my phone on do not disturb. I called Vicki to see where she was "hey baby I just got home. I'm gonna shower and start getting ready. Did you get everything"
She was saying thank you to our driver as she got into the car "yes I did baby and I'm headed home to you now to do the same"
"Okay good see you soon" we blew kisses and hung up. I really loved this woman man. Why couldn't I just chill and enjoy my life? I promise imma get rid of Alia and that dumb ass attitude, but Asiah is my little lady. I had been helping raise that little girl since she was 3 months old. I'm the only other parent she's ever known. Still no excuse to do Victoria the way I'm doing her. I gotta cut that shit short and soon. I sat on the couch to wait for Vicki so I could help with the bags when I saw the notification on my phone… "ain't no way... no fuckin way booooyy. I know that ain't... Eva?"
