Wen and Ethan watched the doctor do his job. There eyes moving back and forth like clocks following L's every movement. Like cats stalking a mouse... or literally anything that looks like prey.
They watched him set up different beakers and defusers, several controls for the experiment and a chemical nobody knew but knew that they shouldn't touch it just from the stench. They witnessed him take out a box of seven test tubes from the DNA he received outside.
There were only two other test tubes aside from Ethan's that had a slightly golden tint to their blood, yet it wasn't as prominent as Ethan's.
L took out an industrial microscope and dropped it onto the counter with a loud clang, startling both of the men sitting on the table.
"Do you guys wanna be helpful or will you just watch me like owls?"
"Owlsss~" Wen sang out. It was clear that no one could change his mind. They both looked at Ethan who raised his arm as if the injury was common sense for him not to participate.
L sighed. "Very well then." 'Lazy as*es'
L got back to work was the two watched him with content looks apon their faces. "This species is a vampire, native to the lands of N City..." Wen started, mimicking that of a national geographic animal documentation. "He scowers for food by day, and by night, experiments on them. Truly atrocious."
L had to hold back a wheeze at the last statement but still gave Wen the satisfaction of seeing his charming smirk. "Your Australian accent is atrocious."
Wen gasped so hard you'd think that comeback winded him. "I-" He looked over to Ethan, hoping that the man would vouche for him. Ethan nodded much to Wens dismay. "Well fu*k you, too!"
L's laughter filled the room, muddling the minds of both of the watching men. It was not only light but throaty and charming, much like the man it came from. It drew them in until it came to a stop shortly after.
L had chuckled many times throughout his times with Wen but this was his first time fully laughing, it made something blossom within the man. Ethan, on the other hand, had heard this laugh many times but still couldn't help feeling drawn in.
'The man was too charming for his own good, better to kill him off now once he finds a cure.' Ethan shook his head after seeing Wen dazedly oogle at L.
L was already back to work, using a pasteur pipette to drop samples of blood onto different glass panels and veiw them under a microscope. Ethan leaned over in curiousity. It wasn't that he didn't know a thing about doctors, in fact he took biology and medicinal science in college but he had a major degree in philosophy, making him a physiatrist which is what the asylum hired him as. He never usually got to work with the physical part of patients but more with the brain.
"What do you see?" Wen opened his mouth before Ethan could ask the question. L looked up at the two eager people. "I see your ugly face."
Wen clenched his heart dramatically as if he was shot. "You're so mean some times, you know that?"
"Oh, I know." L gave him a bitter smile. "In our blood it's normal, but in Ethan's blood" He switched out the glass panels. "Their's something different about his red blood cells."
Wen put his eye to the microscope and saw that Ethan's red blood cells were yellow colored and moved in circular motions, they didn't clot like the regular blood cells. L switched out the slides and let Wen see how regular red blood cells moved. "Oh... Ethan you're weird."
Ethans mouth pressed into a thin line. L took both of the slides off the microscope. "Come here."
Wen and Ethan followed L to the back of the lab where he had blood sitting in different solvents. They were labeled but Wen couldn't read it and Ethan didn't even try.
"That's Ethans blood in a solvent." L pointed to a beaker with yellow liquid floating and clumped up in a clear liquid. He motioned to another beaker with slightly red liquid inside of it. It was clear that the regular blood had defused in the clear liquid, tinting the liquid slightly red, while the tainted blood had stuck together as if protecting it's self.
"Woah~, can I touch it."
"No." L wacked Wen's hand with a ruler. Wen frowned and rubbed his abused hand. L gently grabbed Ethan's hand and looked at the part he cut off, his skin was mostly healed. Wen gasped. "You see, I figured that if his blood reacted like this it would make his regeneration different, his blood doesn't clot but does something different, which helps him heal faster."
Ethan nodded with wide eyes. "So he's invincible?"
"No, when he's bracing himself for impact, aka tensing himself up, his blood will circulate in a certain area making his skin harder, which is why the blade went through when I distracted him to cut his skin but the needle broke when I didn't."
"So the needle broke not because he had Invincible skin and the needle was thin, but because he was tensing up." L nodded and leaned back against the table, dropping Ethan's arm in the process.
Ethan grabbed the knife, shocking both Wen and L and stabbed his arm. The blade dented and only made a tiny scratch on Ethan which healed almost instantly.
"Maybe... don't go around stabbing youself though." Ethan put the knife back down.
"At least it didn't snap like the needle. It's still usable." Wen nodded.
"Ok, everyone out. I'm hungry."
"There's blood all around you, Mr. Vampire."
L gazed at Wen with a sadistic smile, "Your willing to donate? I like my blood fresh."
Ethan covered his ears. 'Yeah, nope'. "Look, your traumatizing the child."
"He's older than you." L walked past Wen and into the cupboard. He had ditched the blue gloves and washed his hands while Wen had been talking. "Trama disregards age."
L took out some naan and white rice. Wen spoke up in exasperation, "Still no meat?"
"Suffer."
L started to boil water for the rice while Wen and Ethan played domino's on the floor with cut up pieces of cardboard.
"That's cheating! You can't turn your peice like that-" KRRICK-
L looked up at the two who seemed just as suprized at the noise. It came from the lab room.
