DYLAN'S POV
When I got at the Whyte Silver Rays Medical Centre, there was no sign of Anisha. I checked on all the patients admitted, and her name was nowhere to be found. Joey was also puzzled as to what could have happened, for he said no-one ever called him concerning Anisha. I quickly called the number that Valentina had earlier on used to call me.
"Hello" a male voice answered without emotion.
"Is this Curt…or Carlos? Sorry, I forgot the name…"
"Carter," the man said flatly.
"What happened? Was Anisha admitted into hospital? I am here at Whyte Silver Rays; she's nowhere to be seen."
"She's in good hands," the man said before disengaging the call.
Feeling more confused rather than frustrated, I regretted not having Ms Meyerton' contacts. But I did have Anisha's of course, so I dialed it, hoping that someone would be having her phone.
Sure enough, Valentina answered it. "Dylan!! Are you now in Hallowcave? Anisha is here, at the general hospital. Carter was the one who insisted on bringing her here, for he said we could not afford the fees at Whyte Silver Rays."
"Send me the location; I will be there soon."
While Chris was driving us to the general hospital, I felt seriously angered by Carter's actions. Who was he anyway, to stand in my way and change what I had said? Had I not promised that I would cover the expenses as soon as I arrived?
When I entered into the room, Anisha was lying on the bed, motionless. I checked her shoulder, making sure not to wake her up. Immediately I asked to talk to her attending doctor, for I needed to transfer her to Whyte Silver Rays. As I was talking, a tall skinny man entered and looked at me with contempt.
"I am the one who brought her here. This is where she belongs," he said to me.
"Well I am organizing for her transfer. Whyte Silver Rays has much more modern and advanced machinery compared to this hospital."
The man let out a small mocking laugh and said, "you can't just walk in and start changing things, even though you're filthy rich, Dylan de Milo. I am the one who brought Anisha here."
Four ladies entered into the room, Valentina was one of them, and she was pushing Ms Meyerton in her chair. She came and greeted me, wiping off some tears. "Dylan, I'm so glad you are here now. Did you have a look at her? She is not too bad, is she??" Valentina looked up at me with hopeful eyes. Her eyes were pleading for good news.
"She doesn't look too bad." I proceeded to greet Ms Meyerton and the two ladies.
Valentina introduced everyone, "this is Carter, we were together at Olga, the home. And this is Amelia, I'm sure Anisha has told you something about her. This is her daughter…umm…what's your name again?"
"Tessa," the girl answered while facing the floor.
"Yes. Tessa. And everyone, this is doctor Dylan de Milo. He's the one who had advised us to take Anisha to Whyte Silver Rays…"
"It's too expensive, that's why we brought her here," Carter spoke out.
"I had made it clear that we would take care of the expenses," I told him. He was really starting to irritate me.
"Whyte Silver Rays is a good hospital. Is it possible to transfer her now?" Ms Meyerton asked.
I assured her that it was possible.
***.
After everything was set, Anisha was still fast asleep in the VIP ward at Whyte Silver Rays. I had gotten all the answers to the questions that I had asked, concerning Anisha, and I waited patiently for her to wake up.
"What really happened?" I asked Valentina.
"Carter and I were driving in when we saw her running out; and we followed her. It turns out she found out that Amelia if her biological mother, and she failed to take it well. She just kept running. Even after speaking to Amelia, she ran out and then a truck hit her. But the driver did his best to evade her; that's why he ended up hitting her on the shoulder. If he had not driven off the road...he…he…he would have killed her! I…I can't imagine…"
"Shh it's ok Valentina. She will be fine." I tried to comfort her while she sobbed uncontrollably.
The man Carter walked closer to us and said, "we were with her. I don't understand why you should come and overrule our decisions."
"What's wrong with her coming to Whyte Silver Rays Medical Centre?"
"Nothing wrong, but was it really necessary for you to pull your weight around here?" Carter sneered.
"What's your problem, Carter?"
"My problem? My problem is rich people who want to be felt everywhere they go. Anisha was with us, and you just appeared from nowhere to come and disturb our peace."
"Besides staying at the home with Anisha, do you have any other relationship with her?" I could not help but ask.
Carter blinked several times and said, "well, the two of us go a long way. We were together at Olga. I would know and understand Anisha way better than you."
"The way you say it, it's as if it was only you and Anisha at the home. Were there no many other children there as well?"
"They were there…but then, she had always been my special friend."
A small alarm rang, signifying that the visiting hour was over. The ladies said a few words and Ms Meyerton asked us all to close our eyes for a prayer. After the prayer, they left. A nurse came in and started to check on the patient.
"It's time to leave," Carter spoke to me.
"Well then, leave!" I told him without looking at him.
"You too should leave. We should all leave so that Anisha gets time to rest."
I laughed a little and said, "Carter; I honestly don't know what your problem is, but I really don't have time for you. You may leave."
"The way you talk, it's like you own this hospital!" Carter said in a highly mocking tone.
The nurse turned around to face Carter, and she frowned before saying, "Of course he does! This is doctor Dylan de Milo. de Milo Group of Hospitals? Ever heard of it?"
"I know it…"
"Whyte Silver Rays is part of the de Milo Group of Hospitals," the nurse explained.
"Oh!" Carter's eyes widened in shock. He looked at me and then back at the nurse. And he slowly walked out.
When I finally left the ward, quite a while later, I was surprised to find Carter waiting for me by the doorway.
"May I ask; what is the relationship between you and Anisha?" he asked in a whisper.
"Ask her when she wakes up" I strode past him, feeling extremely irritated.
