Chapter 1 - Beautifully Cruel World

Isn't it unfair?

People say life is beautiful and precious. But never the bitter truth about how they made it look beautiful. I don't remember thinking about life being beautiful. How can it be when all throughout my years, life has shown me nothing but cruelty.

Being a student of Sol-E-Luna Academy, the best one out of all in Japan has a lot of dark sides then what they have to offer from the outside.

Children enroll here to accomplish and achieve their dreams. Little do they know about the sacrifices they will have to make there. Bullying, spreading fake rumours, fights, favouritism, cyberbullying, toxic students and teachers, corrupted school system and a plethora of things that would eventually drive the weak hearted into doing the unthinkable. I was one of them. Pathetic as this sounds but I just couldn't bare the pain anymore. I was desperate to get rid of it and hence it led me to this cliff. As I stand there, I embraced the beauty of the sunset and the unending ocean. They must be living a life of no care. Oh how much I wish life could have gone a little easy on me...

"I guess the pain ends here" I said as I prepared myself to jump. Suddenly, a bright light flashed right before my eyes making me blind. I panicked and fell back on the grass. Soon the light faded away. Along with it, a loud crash was heard a few hundred meters away. I was scared and confused at first, but curiosity took over me and I went to see what it was. To my surprise, a huge meteor lay on the ground. A strange thing about it was that it didn't destroy it's surroundings like the plants or the grass beneath it. It felt as if it had landed softly on the ground rather then falling on it with force. Just as I was confused as to how it could have happened, the meteor cracked open. Rays of light started coming out of it. I approached it with caution and peaked inside. I caught the glimpse of a kitten. It was a small black kitten that seemed to be injured and was struggling to breath. It had a golden star mark on its forehead. I was really concerned as to how can a kitten fall from the sky and that too inside a meteor. Who could have injured it. Hence wasting no time I took the kitten on my arms and carried it to the vet. I felt really scared for it due to it's injuries but to my relief, the vet said that the kitten would be healed very soon and it's injuries were minor. After spending a few hours at the hospital I was able take the kitten back to my house in a caged box. Luckily, I had money with me so I was able to pay the hospital fees as well as get the meds for the kitten.

As soon as I reached home and opened the door, my sister came in rushing towards me and hugged me tightly. "A-a-akane.. I'm.. not.. able to.. breathe" I said as my lungs struggled to take in air. "Where have you been for so long sister? It's almost midnight. I was so worried about you... Also, is that a kitten?" She said while releasing me from her torturous hug. "Yeah, I found it on my way back. It was injured so I had to take it to the vet."

"Oh really, that must be the reason for being out for so long."She said as she bent in to see the sleeping kitten inside the cage I was holding.

" Ye-yes..of course that's the reason. I was out for a walk at first and had planned to return soon bu-but..."

"Don't lie to me miss Aoi. It's so easy to know that you're lying when u stutter like that *chuckles* come let's go to our room. Now, tell me where were you before meeting the kitten." She said as we sat down on her bed.

"... Fine. I was at the cliff near the sea."

"Why.. why again? I told you not to go there. I always told you to tell me whenever you feel down. I know you may not be the strongest sister but always remember that you're the best and most loving sister I have ever had."

"I'm really sorry Akane. The pain was getting really unbearable for me. I just wanted to end it all but didn't knew how to."

"So the cliff was the only option right"

"... *sighs*....yes."

She hugged me but this time it wasn't torturous.

"Please promise me that you won't try to leave me this time. I bet I need to cage you inside so that you don't run away once again."

We both laughed at the thought of it.

"Meeeoooooow~"

A loud cry was heard from the cage of the kitten.

"Oops. Sorry kitty I forgot about you for a second there."

"Oh yes! We do need to prepare a warm bed for our new guest. Let me bring in some clothes and blankets from the closet." She said as she went to the dressing room.

I decided to get a cushion from the living room. It would act as a bed for the kitten. So I went to the living room creeping slowly in the blinding dark so that my parents who were sleeping won't hear me. "Gotcha!" I whispered with joy when I got my hands on a cushion. As I returned to the room, Akane was already waiting for me. "Ah, place the cushion near your bed first."

I did what she told me to and then she firmly placed the layer of clothes she had brought. This would be the bedsheet for the bedsheet for the kitty's 'bed'.

"Ok! Now its time to place the kitten. Sis can you carry it and place it on the bed?"

I nodded as I went towards the cage and opened its lid. It was surprising to see the kitten still asleep. "She must have had a nightmare and so the cries." I thought to myself. I gently carried it on my arms and cautiously put it down on the bed so as to not wake it up.

"There buddy, you can sleep peacefully now."

*chuckles* "Isn't she the cutest kitten I have ever seen."

"All kittens are cute haha."

"Yes and so are sisters. But you're definitely not one of them hehe"

"You know I always wanted to smack you but I don't support animal abuse. So sad"

"Sis!!!"

That was satisfying. Akane kept blabbering nonsense in the background while I immediately drifted to sleep as I was really tired.

The next morning, I woke up to the sound of birds chirping. Rays of sunlight seeped through the curtains. I stood up from my bed and made way to the bathroom with eyes still closed. After refreshing myself I came back to my room. I saw Akane, still sleeping like a log. However as I drifted my gaze near my bed, I saw the black silhouette of a human. My feet went cold. I was really afraid thinking that it must be a burglar trying to hide. So I took a frying pan from the kitchen without making any noise and slowly crept towards it. As I went near it, the view of that human became much more clear. I gasped when I realised.

"Wh-what in the world is that...?!"
