Chapter 4 - What are friends for

It's been a year since my dad became the helmsman of the family, and I can't say he has been the best father since then, neither has he been the best helmsman. My father was never that good at controlling people, not to talk of an entire family filled with cowards and people who rely on a rich ass family for everything, so yes I've had it rough this last few months. I clocked six last two months, but unlike my fifth, it wasn't all that memorable my dad works so hard on family matters that he hardly sees me in a week, but it's understandable, since it was grandpa's dying wish for him to take the family to where it belongs. My mom also helps dad on family matters and it could be said that she is the only reason why the family Is still standing, my dad cares a lot about peoples opinion and comments, which are mostly bad, so he's sometimes in low spirit, and mom is always the one to cheer him up and give him advice on what to do. So the only person that really has time for me is isabella, well its her job.

Leaving family matters alone, school has been worse, but I'm probably the one to be blamed for that. After leaving preschool, I thought I was finally a grown man and started to act arrogantly and proud, since there was no family who was as rich as my family. Everyone in my class hated me, I had no friends, and although I was the best in class, this made some other kids jealous. Rich, smart, cute and naive, I was the target for bullies, you would expect my dad to fight back for me, but he was scared, because I was always bullied by children who's families were almost on par with ours, so if anything went on, they could go all out on the Mctaylors, which was not what my dad wanted. Clearly my life had gone from grace to bits of grass. But don't worry, it's still going into the fry pan, then to fire.

It was a sunny morning and as always, isabella gave me a warm bath. Unlike before when we would talk and play a lot, now I was more of a loner because of all that was going on, but we were still close at least. I dressed up for school and had breakfast before walking outside to Edna, my driver.

While I was about to step out of the villa, I heard someone call my name from inside, so I looked back to check who it was.

Surprisingly, it was my dad. I wasn't expecting to see him this week since I had seen him already, but I was kind of happy though.

"Hey kiddo, it's been sometimes, I see you're going to school" He said. He was wearing a navy blue coloured robe, a pair of spectacles with a cup of coffee on hands. He looked a bit shy, so I guessed he was forced by mom to come.

"Yes, I'm going to school, it's pretty obvious though. I see mom forced you to come see me again" I said indifferently, but I was actually very happy that he came to see me.

"Actually, I came by myself today, I thought it would be nice to see my little chipmunk off to school today" He said, walked up to me, crouched to meet me and patted my head.

"Don't call me that, I'm now a big boy" I mumbled to myself, but I'm sure he heard because he chuckled. I was blushing like a naked sheep and I could feel my heart melting away as I felt again the love that seemed to be fading. if this was a year ago, I would have thrown myself to his arms and hugged him, but I didn't.

"I hear you don't have any friends yet? Why don't you get yourself one and we all go on an outing, like good ol' days, promise?" He said, and the happiness that I had been hiding finally came out, but with surprise. I could feel tears welling up in my eyes and my heart beating fast, but instead of pumping blood, it was pumping joy, I shut my eyes to swallow my tears back to my eyes.

I nodded like an obedient puppy, too happy to talk.

I turn around, walked into the car and wave at him, guess today is gonna be different, I could imagine myself, dad and mom on a ferry wheel with my new friend, but now I had a mission to make a friend today, but the problem is all my classmates are total jerks, well except for one kid.

Terry Anderson was a calm, gentle and docile black kid, and unlike the rest of us in the class, his parents weren't as rich as us, but the fact that he and his elder brother can attend this school, means they are rich enough. He is my only choice for a friend, though I was contemplating on it because I was told that you only hang out with people of the same class as you, like rich people should hang out with rich people but I can't bare to hang out with some narcissistic jerks or some kids whose parents only brought them here to suck up to the richer families. Terry was different because he was nice gentle, the only one who could drag with me as the first in the class and he always minds his own business.

When it was lunch time, I walked up to him and he was sitting alone, colouring the nine planets.

"Fun fact, Venus is actually pearly white in colour, not red." I said, while sitting close to him.

"How do you know?" He asks, adjusting his glasses.

"My maid told me. Well she's more like my big sis" I said with my charming smile, and continued " Terry, right?" I said, extending my hand for a shake.

"Yes, and you are elvis Mctaylor " He said, looking at my hand, whether to shake or not.

"You don't necessarily have to say my surname, I don't really like people knowing who I am" I whispered to his ear. He smiled, shakes me and said

"Well then you're not like the others who brag about their family all the time. can we be friends?" I let out a smile of approval and nodded my head. That was easy, didn't expect it to be that easy. You might be wondering why we are talking like grown ups, this school is genuinely made for rich ass families, so they teach us to be gentlemen.

This has been a wonderful day so far, and I'm sure nothing can ruin my good mood, what could possibly go wrong...

Boom

Guess I spoke too soon. It was either an explosion or an earthquake, because the entire building shook due to it, everyone was scared out of their wits and some ran under the table.

Not long after, we started to hear gun shots from outside, this made everyone almost go crazy, even one of the teachers ran outside, the other one was left to calm us down. The sound of gunshots subsided and we were calm for a while.

Bang

Some men in a sleeveless shirt and tattoos on their arm, suddenly barged into the classroom and started shooting at the ceiling, all the children started screaming in fear and many started peeing their pants, even I was close to doing that.

They grabbed the teacher who was left behind and told her on gun point.

"I give you five seconds to sniff elvis Mctaylor out, or else I'll give you another hole in your face to breath through " the man said fiercely. My poor teacher could do nothing but shiver and cry like a baby.

As soon as I heard my name, my heart had already ran a mile, and for some reason, I already knew I was the one they came for.

Last week, there was an incident where my dad was attacked on his way back from work, luckily, there was no casualties, neither was the culprit caught, but I knew my dad knew who it was but I'm sure he never expected them to come to my school.

This school is a school nicknamed bigshot schools by commoners, because it was packed with bigshots children, because of this the school had a very tight security with soldiers everywhere, that literally not even a bug could sneak in. But these hooligans had the guts to barge in, who the hell did my dad offend.

" one..., two...,three,...five..." He counted and my teacher could only point at me where I was hiding. All 5he children in the class cramped up in a corner of the class, so they didn't see me.

"Elvis" I heard someone whisper my name from behind, and when I looked back, I saw Terry. He called me and crawled towards the back door and I followed. By the time we got out of the class we ran through the hallway and my heart was still racing, but I was relieved. While we were running I looked at Terry and he was dragging me out of the school like he was my bodyguard. I was really touched by his actions it was me they were looking for, and he could get himself into trouble for this has he even thought of this yet.

"Wait" I said, as I stopped and pulled him back.

"Why are you helping me, you could get yourself in trouble for this" I said while panting from all the running.

"What are friends for" He replied with a big smile and I felt my heart shift, this guy was unbelievably nice, his face looked so calm, and I wondered how he could be this calm at a Time like this.

"Hey, look, they're there " one of the hooligans yelled after spotting us and we took our batons, and began running.

We reached the staircase that will led us to the entrance of the school building and as soon as we turned, we collided with someone.

There was this tall sturdy man with a face that could give a bear heart attack, standing right at our front, he had a cigarette between his lips and he puffed out smoke to our faces. We coughed and the men who were chasing us from behind caught up with us and were also panting.

"Are these little things giving you trouble?" He said, and damn, his voice was as thick as an hippos fart.

"No boss they don't dare" one of the guys who was chasing us said.

"Good. Now take him to the car, I've and let's go." The man said, and they lifted me and took me downstairs. Terry jumped to hold my feet so they won't take me, but he was pulled by the other. He took the finger of the man who pulled him and buried his teeth in it.

"Ahhh!! I'll kill you, you little s**t" the man screamed and folded his hand into a fist to punch Terry, but the man with the cigarette held his hand. He gestured for the man to move aside, brought out a pistol from his pocket and pointed it at Terry's head. I saw the mans hand move to the trigger, and I opened my mouth to scream but I couldn't, my throat was too dry. Tears rolled down my cheeks and Terry just stood there with his eyes wide open in shock and fear. With all the strength in me, I struggled, and screamed, but I wasn't strong enough.

"It's alright" Terry said, forcing a smile on his face. This was
