It had been months since I had to flee the Capital in shame. Without the Alpha Ring, the Royal Council and the City Watch would not recognize me as a monarch. My forces had been spread thin so I had no choice but to make a tactical retreat.
My idiotic brother thought he would be clever and try his hand at being king as well, and it was all for nothing. His actions have been nothing but a hindrance and in the end, he lost to the bastard.
The city walls appeared as we marched out of the forest. Torches had been lit along the ramparts. Vadon’s last remaining wolves had been expecting me. Three months ago they had the advantage but now I had returned with an army of two thousand strong. They would not hold against me.
