I hissed as the unwelcome ray of sunlight hit me. I pulled the blankets over my head and sighed with relief under the cover of darkness.
“You are the rightful Alpha and king of Oakheart and can indulge in as much drink as you wish,” Roger’s voice droned loudly. “But that does not excuse you from performing your duties the morning after.”
I groaned. I had indeed drunk way too much. After I left Vanessa’s chambers I was wracked with guilt. The look of utter betrayal on her face had torn my heart in two. I left her chambers swiftly, unable to face her. And then I drowned myself in ale, unable to face myself.
“Can’t I have a moment just to wallow in the consequences of my cruel actions?” I begged. The sunlight somehow seemed to seep through the blanket and assault my eyes once again. Either that or I was going mad.
