They did not know how powerful Jacob was, so it would be risky for Enzo to pit himself against Jacob.
"This, of course, I understand. All participants go to the Trial with the mental preparation that they might get injured or even face death," Mr. Santoro said nonchalantly.
Ripley could not find any more excuse to reject Mr. Santoro's request, so he nodded and replied, "In that case, Jacob is welcome to participate. However, should anything untoward happen to him, I hope you will not fault the Deraegans, Mr. Santoro."
"Don't worry about that!" Mr. Santoro promised. Then he threw the document back to Ripley. "Your application is approved."
With that, he waved Ripley off. Ripley retreated and left.
After he left the premises of the Department of Justice, a worried look appeared on Ripley's face. With the unexpected inclusion of Jacob as a participant in the Trial, he had to relook into his plans and make sure nothing would get out of hand.
