Chapter 1 - Time for a History Lesson!

Max, at the prestigious Higgins University, was intently taking notes as the professor of magic, Nathaniel Germainer spoke: "After our brief introduction activity, I think it is time to start with a short preface to our study this year. Magic is a study, a pinnacle of all the sciences that people have studied. A combination of physics, mathematics, and chemistry.

As university students, I'm sure you all know this, but it is important to know the origin of magic. The most fundamental things can sometimes lead to great discoveries within this field."

Professor Germainer exclaimed, "Now, it is time for the true history of this beautiful field. Magic is based on mana, which was discovered in 2100, when the great scientist Carl Higgins, a PhD in every branch of science, had formed the hypothesis that there must be another element and force driving the universe."

Max rolled his eyes, muttering to himself, "Yeah duh. We don't need a history lesson." He continued to take notes, although knowing these well-known facts already.

Professor Germainer continued, "Higgins had named it "MaNA" after the phenomena that created it: "Ma" from magnetism, "N" from neutrons, and "A" from Arsenitinium. In short, it was the "Magnetic potency of the Neutrons of Arsenitinium." Arsenitinium was the element that he hypothesized, and it had 400 protons, 700 neutrons, and no electrons. A true anomaly on the periodic table for the time; in fact, many people at the time did not understand how he seemingly came to this realization out of nowhere."

Suddenly, the bell rang, and the 30 people in the lecture hall hastily stood up, quickly thanked the professor for the lesson, and left. For Max, it was time to go to the library.
