Chapter 10 - Glass Heart

There was something very wrong, Celest, could feel the icy grip of a change in fate before gliding toward the doorway. She halted and turned around to continue pacing in her decrepit home. Back and forth she went before deciding to slip into her old dark silk cape and once again heading outside. The light was overbearingly bright as she slipped the long hood over her ruby red curls. She sighed and let the gut retching feeling pull her wherever it needed and she ended up standing in front of the large wooden building that housed both enforcers and suppliers. Her ember eyes squinted as she pondered what could be the reason for being led her then her bare feet stepped over the threshold and the gut feeling practically struck her in the face. She stood there in silence at the scene laid out in front of her; Lazarus stood tall, with his back toward her, in front of a kneeling woman on the ground. She remained with her eyes downcast and it took a few minutes for Celest to realize who the woman was; as the realization struck she watched Lazarus pick the woman's head up so that she could look at him. Something unspoken passed between the two of them before either spoke and what was said shook Celest to her core, so much so that she decided to intervene.

She made her presence known to, Lazarus, after he had decided to speak of breaking the rules and all but encouraged the human woman, Mae, to do the same. This was the second time she had caught him almost becoming human again and that was starting to bother her. Celest took the opportunity of their distraction to move to the far side of the door and wait. She watched and waited as Mae looked back from the threshold and smiled at her second hand. The gut retching feeling only proceeded to become worse and it brought her back to before human captivity.

She had been with two others as they had purposely slipped past the border between their worlds. They were laughing at something and had forgotten the most important rule, don't let the humans find you, when they ran headfirst into a small group of teenagers camping. None of them had been wearing their capes and at least two of the teens had asked why they weren't wearing any shoes; according to them the three girls were crazy as there was a light touch of snow on the ground. They were odd because their eyes were two very different colors, one of her friends had deep burgundy, while herself and another had glowing ember. The girls had assumed even the humans had these, because their eyes showed exactly what they were. Two girls were from a strong hybrid family while the third was a royal vampire. They had tried to laugh it off with the teenagers, at the thought of their kind existing, except it didn't sit well with, Celest, when one of the boys had shown her a hunting knife, and said they wanted to torment and kill all strange creatures which roamed in that very tree line. Celest had shared a glance with each of the girls before her friend barred her fangs at the ungrateful teens and they tore off running and tripping, leaving everything they'd brought with them behind. She shook her head and they decided to head back down the winding trail, unknowingly a few teenaged had followed, and all hell broke loss upon arrival when they were shown where the "monsters" stayed.
