Chapter 3 - Chapter - 3: The story of The Town of The Beginning

As I traveled to Rogerberg town, I felt really good and refreshed. I looked out at the view from the window which was behind me.

A light breeze flows through the air, making me feel refreshed, as it passes through my ear I can feel a song being sung by the atmosphere.

I can see a lot of fields with a golden glow in our way. I think this is the harvest season.

As time passed, the rays of sunlight directly entered through the windows of the wagon, and the faces of the people inside became clear.

I glanced towards the man to my right claiming himself a dwarf and I noticed his white beard and a bit of wrinkled skin.

The other thing I noticed was his painful expression as if he lost someone precious.

He looks like someone the age my dad was.

As I was wondering what may be the reason he carries such a painful expression, I got this sudden urge to talk to him.

"Um… Excuse me?"

As I spoke those words in order to converse, the man sitting next to me ignored it and continued staring at a blank space with a gloomy expression.

So, for him to notice me, I pulled out my right hand and lightly touched his shoulder, and said:

"Hello? Can I take a moment of your time?"

"Hm?... What do you want?"

He looked surprised as I suddenly called up to him.

"U… uh… well… you see…"

"Spit it out kiddo, I don't have the whole day"

I realized I didn't really think about what to ask him and went straight ahead to talk to him on reflex.

So, I decided to ask him about the place where we were headed.

"Can you tell me about Rogerberg Town?"

"What is there to tell, even little kids in Cilicia Kingdom know about this place, don't waste my time on idle chit-chats"

'Cilicia kingdom? Is that what this country called?' I thought

"Um… Actually, I think I am not from this kingdom or any place around this kingdom," I replied

"Then how the hell did you end up here?" The old man sitting next to me said as he was a bit frustrated.

"I don't really know, when I opened my eyes I was in the middle of nowhere, then I saw this wagon and I hop inside the wagon in the hope to get more information," I replied.

"Ha! So you don't know what happened to you until you opened your eyes? Kids these days are so careless."

"Yeah… well…"

"Whatever… I don't really care what happened to you but I can tell you about the place where we are headed" The old man replied

"Thank you very much…"

"Hmph!... Listen carefully, the place we are heading to is Rogerberg Town which was named after the great hero Rudolf Rogerberg" The old man illustrated

'Rudolf Rogerberg? Is that some kind of hot shot?' I thought

"Really? So, does that means this town is his hometown?" I added further.

"No, you damn brat, the hero wasn't from this kingdom in the first place."

"Then what is the reason behind it?" I replied

"... It is a long story."

"Well, I think we have plenty of time."

The old man seemed annoyed when I asked him about the town.

"Haa… well, a long time ago the great hero Rudolf and his party came across a strange request, the request to defend and eliminate any threat across a particular settlement"

'It sounds like a fantasy story,' I thought.

"That settlement is important because it works as a supply route for the military at the border in the war." The old man continued

"There was a war?" I replied

"The settlement was also important as it may provide shelter for the injured soldiers, and it also had routes going to the three neighboring kingdoms" he further illustrated

'I was ignored?' I thought

"As to why it needs protection, it's because the number of demons in that surrounding area had increased, and due to that the supply route was now inaccessible," he continued.

'Now there are demons?' I thought

"So, Rudolf and his party accepted the request and headed toward their objective," The old man further conversed.

'Even though it is fantasy-like, this story feels interesting' I thought.

"When he reached the village he saw the situation is a lot worse than he expected, there were a lot of villagers who were injured due to continuous attacks from demons, and the soldiers were also forced to join from the front lines" He continued

'He really likes to talk a lot,' I thought.

"But, this threat is nothing for the great hero Rudolf Rogerberg," He said with a smirk on his face.

"He overwhelmingly wiped out every demon around that area and his party treated injured people around the village," He further added.

"Wow, he must be really strong," I replied.

"Of course he is, but the story doesn't end here. To prevent a future attack on the village Rudolf made a barrier to keep demons out such that the route can be used without any problems," He said.

"Oh… A barrier?"

"Yes, and after the war was over and peace was made Rudolf proposed that the village can become a marketing hub that can connect our three neighboring countries," He continued.

"He said that…"

"Yes, but it was no easy task as it needs a lot of investment, so after too much debate and discussion they decided to open a branch of the adventurers guild in that village," He said.

'There is also an adventurers guild?' I thought.

"Why adventurers guild?" I replied

"The reason for that is adventurers can bring a good flow of money around the area," He said

"Really?"

"Yes, and as our hero, Rudolf just wiped out demons around the area and even put a barrier, the village is pretty safe for a newbie adventurer," He said

"So, that means there is nothing too dangerous around the village?" I replied

"Yes, that's right, and this is how that village was known as the town of the beginning," he said.

'Quite a fancy name' I thought

"Thus due to various achievements in battle and services to the kingdom the king named the village as the Rogerberg town," He further added

"Wow, it is quite a nice story," I replied

"Yeah, it is known as the legend of the great Rudolf Rogerberg"

At this point, I don't really know what to believe because I can tell by looking at the expression of the old man that it is genuine. But I still wasn't able to believe his story.
