"It's time"
A sweet voice echoed inside my head.
"Wake up…"
As I opened my eyes, I saw a whole new world.
.
.
.
"Where am I?"
As I looked around, everything felt unfamiliar.
"What had I been doing before coming here?"
As I tried to think about it, a sudden thought hit me.
"Bleggh…"
I vomited thinking about how I was at the top of the 20-floor building and as I jumped off the building the next thing I remember was this place.
"But what was that white light before?"
The other thing I remembered as I jumped off that building was a white light that appeared in front of me, but as I approached it, I ended up here.
"Why does this have to happen when I have finally decided to die?"
My name is Dev Sharma; I am 24 years of age. I was branded as a failure by the members of society. My life is full of misery and regret. So, after gathering up some courage, I decided to die.
"So, what is this place?"
The place around me felt so unfamiliar, but I feel more alive right now than I was before jumping off the building.
The reason for that is the light breeze flowing around the area that tickles you lightly on your skin and gently takes away all your depression or regrets you ever had.
"Man, I want to stay here forever."
As I looked around, I saw a large area covered in grass. When I look straight ahead, I can see some kind of road at a distance. Behind me was a huge tree making it the only tree around the area.
I can see a river flowing through my right-hand side at some distance. There is also a bridge where the river and the road meet each other.
Across the road, I see a deep forest with a lot of giant trees inside the forest.
"What is that thing on the bridge…"
When I looked at the bridge, I saw something approaching through the road.
"Wait, that looks like a wagon."
When I deduced that there was a wagon on the bridge, I tried to run towards the road in the hope of meeting up with the wagon and figuring out my situation.
As I run towards the road, the wagon seems to have more speed than me. I tried to speed up a bit, but the speed of the wagon far exceeded mine. So, I tried calling up to the wagon driver.
"HEY, STOP!"
I tried to be as loud as I could so that the wagon driver could hear me.
"HEY, PLEASE HELP ME!"
After so much shouting and running around, the wagon driver finally noticed me. As soon as he noticed me, he stopped the wagon.
I was so relieved that I took a moment to catch my breath and head towards the wagon.
After finally catching up with the wagon I was confronted by a person with strange attire.
"Hello traveler, my name is Walter Roland, and I am the driver of this wagon. May I ask who you might be?"
As he spoke with a rather strange accent, he looked at my clothes and asked for my identity.
"Your clothes are… strange. You are not from here, are you?" He further added.
Guess we both think the same thing.
"Um… My name is Dev Sharma. And you are right about me not being from here, but I don't know how to say this..."
"What do you mean?"
"Actually, the last thing I remember was my home before opening my eyes under that giant tree, so I can't really say where or how far my home is right now."
"So, you lost your memory?"
"Yes, that is what I think, and want to figure out where I am?"
The wagon driver took a moment and replied.
"Ok, I can understand your situation now. This place is on the outskirts of Rogerberg town."
This is the first time I hear the name of a place like this.
"Um… How far is this place?"
"If you follow this road straight ahead, you can get there in half a day."
Half a day is a long time and I think it is already noon. That means before I arrive there the night will fall, and I don't know much about this place.
"Um… Where is your wagon heading to?"
"My wagon?... To the city."
"Uh… If you don't mind, can I travel through your wagon?"
The wagon driver got into serious thought as he stared my way. After a little while with a wide smile, he replied.
"Yes, … Why not? Welcome to my humble wagon and sit wherever you like."
I don't feel too good about traveling on this wagon, but I have no other choice.
As I get closer to the wagon, I see a weird creature pulling the wagon. I never saw something like this creature. Its head looks like a bull, but its lower body looks a lot like a horse.
I had never seen such a creature in my entire life. As I stared away at that creature, I entered the wagon. As I sit inside the wagon, I hear the driver say something.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the Roland express is on its way to the city."
As he said those words the wagon started to move.
As my eyes got adjusted inside the wagon, I saw something unusual in front of me.
There is a family of three in front of me who I feel was wearing a cosplay. The reason being they have long rabbit-like ears, and I can also see their fur-like tail out of their back.
Upon closer inspection, those ears felt more real, like they were attached to their head.
But then I thought they must be pro cosplayers. Because there is no way a person with bunny ears can exist.
After some time of staring at their ears and admiring their attire, my attention goes to my right.
"WHA…!"
With a loud voice, I shouted out those words when I noticed the shortest person I have seen in my entire life.
"What's up kid, never seen a dwarf before?"
With a huge hammer-like weapon on his right, he gave me an angry look spitting those words.
"I'm sorry, I didn't notice you were here."
"Didn't notice?... Kids these days are so rude."
He looked so pissed by my statement.
"I'm really sorry, I-"
"Yes, you should be…"
"..."
"Hmph"
When I look at him, his height is the same as any kid, but he had a long beard and a broad mustache. He has no hair on his head and sharp ears.
I thought he was another of those cosplayers and was acting.
But the attire of all of these people feels so different but unique like it is representing something or some kind of culture.
The only thing I hope is that I can understand more of my situation in that Rogerberg town.
