Mack's question seemed to awaken Hanna's desire to express herself, and she immediately revealed a thoughtful expression.
"Well... Let me think, damn it, I can't remember clearly, anyway, there are so many that I can't give an accurate count."
Mack smiled and was amazed that someone so young was skilled enough to survive in this world.
"Is that so? I didn't expect someone like you to be so strong. You must be really skilled to kill so many zombies!"
"Of course, I'm strong!"
Hanna was filled with pride in declaring her skill after everything she had been through. All her suffering had finally achieved great accomplishments by becoming a survivor.
Seeing a connection, Mack felt more at ease, so he asked Hanna many questions about the zombies and her life before the end of the world.
Time had gradually passed, and before they knew it, night had fallen, and Merle and the others arrived at a small town. Seeing abandoned houses everywhere, Merle quickly selected one, and after a quick clean-up, they all entered the house.
"I will spend the night in this place. Aarón and Eric will be the night guards, so the rest can rest after eating. Our goal this time is to reach the Mexican border and make a decision from that point."
After Merle finished speaking, he took a bag of food from a suitcase on the side, walked directly to the corner of the room, ignoring the dust on the floor, and placed the food directly into his mouth before lying down.
Hanna looked at Mack and pointed to a corner of the room. "You can rest in that place after having your meal. You don't need to take a guard shift."
"Oh, okay..." Mack took his food with a hint of sadness and looked at what he had in his hands: a package of military rations.
Who are these people?
Why do they have military rations, and why is their equipment so strange?
Did they come across an abandoned military base?
All sorts of questions crossed Mack's mind, but on the surface, he sat quietly in a corner, nibbling on the military rations, and his eyes scanned the surroundings again. Only then did he realize that there were some people he hadn't seen before.
All these people were wearing gray military uniforms, and the weapons they had were all the same, with bayonets at the front of the barrel and a magazine that seemed to have more bullets than a standard rifle. He didn't know what the standard military weapons were, but he understood that if this was just a random group, their weapons couldn't be so uniform.
Are these people from the army?
With this question in mind, Mack moved closer to Hanna.
"Hanna, can I ask you a question?"
"Eh?"
Hanna, who was tasting a piece of chocolate from the military rations, looked at the man who was speaking to her, causing her chocolate to fall to the ground.
"Oops, my chocolate!"
Hanna quickly took the chocolate, put it in her mouth without cleaning it, chewed it twice, tasted the chocolate flavor, and her smile was so big that she fell fast asleep.
Mack was a bit annoyed at being ignored this way, so he moved Hanna a little and she opened her eyes with annoyance.
"What do you want?"
"Are these people from the army? Their weapons are very unique, and their outfits seem special..."
"Maybe, I'm not sure. I just joined recently. If you don't have any more questions, I'm going to sleep..."
"Hoo..."
...
The man by the window suddenly spoke, "Mack, go to sleep and don't bother those who are tired..."
Mack was startled and looked back with unease, seeing a handsome man with short hair looking at him and pointing his finger in the direction near the door.
Choosing a spot near the door, Mack finally lay down. For some reason, there weren't many people near the door, and there was a wall between the door and the hallway.
Lying on the floor, Mack's eyeballs looked around. He was in the shadows at the moment and couldn't be found unless someone looked carefully.
For the convenience of the night guard, several night watchmen also sat by the windows on both sides of the house. There was only one person in the living room, and the other two were scattered in other rooms.
All that's left is to wait. If he is patient enough, he can escape tonight!
Although he is quite tired now, maybe this is his only opportunity to escape.
But it seems Mack wasn't thinking clearly, as he fell fast asleep after only five minutes.
As time passed, Mack suddenly woke up. "I... fell asleep? Damn, what time is it?"
Mack, who suddenly woke up, didn't move immediately. He saw the man sitting not far from him.
The man just sat quietly by the window, leaning on the stool as if falling asleep. He didn't know what time it was, but the repeated snores around him reminded him that it should be midnight.
A good opportunity!
He silently stood up, crawled on all fours in the corner, and the door appeared in front of him.
Mack's heart was already pounding, and he reached out to grasp the doorknob.
Mack felt his heart beating faster and faster. He knew that if he got caught at this moment, he wouldn't be able to explain it at all, so he continued without hesitation, pressed firmly, and quickly opened a gap to escape.
Closing the door behind him, Mack ran towards the nearby alley like a distracted wanderer. He seemed familiar with this place and hurriedly left the small town. After leaving the town, he ran far along the road.
Just as Mack left, several black shadows silently followed him. They wore walker masks on their heads. They were Merle, Negan, and Aaron.
"Hey, the kid thought his performance was good and even mocked us to our faces..."
"I think he just wanted to protect his community. He closed the door when he left, at least showing that he didn't want to harm us."
"So we have to follow him and find out his details. He doesn't want to harm us, but that doesn't mean others don't want to harm us."
"Yeah, we have to be careful even to take a shit."
Upon hearing the daily quarrel between Merle and Negan, Aaron couldn't help but intervene, and the atmosphere suddenly grew cold. None of the three spoke, simply staying behind Mack.
About an hour later, Mack finally arrived at another small town. By this time, the sky was already slightly orange.
Without hesitation, Mack ran towards the town, and the security personnel there greeted him.
The three people hiding in the farthest corner peered out. Merle took the binoculars and observed for a while, then grabbed the radio on his waist.
"Zz... Hanna, are you ready?"
"I'm ready!"
Setting down the radio, the three of them waited another ten minutes, and Merle stood up first. "Alright, let's give our friend a surprise."
