Chapter 423 - First Target

Crack!

In the basement of a residential house, there were two shadows rummaging through drawers and various closets, and these two figures were Meerle and Hanna.

"Hehehe, oh my God! What am I talking about?"

There were several dark objects in a box at the moment, and Merle smiled and put them in her backpack. The girl beside her couldn't see them at all in the dim light, so she continued searching everywhere without wasting time.

"Okay, stop looking. With what we just got, we could say it was the best in this house. Let's move on to the next one."

As soon as the front door of the house they were in opened, Merle saw some walkers on the street, and when their putrid gazes fixed on them, Hanna stepped back in fear and unconsciously wanted to be safe behind Merle's back.

But after thinking about it, she stopped immediately and asked herself the following: "Hanna, do you want to keep hiding behind others for the rest of your life?"

No, that was absolutely not what she wanted. Thinking of her parents and then of Elene, who fought for her to live, she never wanted to be a burden on others again.

"Yes, right now I'll show what I'm made of!"

Hanna was full of determination, tightened the knife in her hand and unconsciously walked forward.

Merle didn't worry about anything other than her goals, she took out a dagger that she had just found and went straight to meet the first walker, lifted the knife in her hand and stabbed the head of the first walker.

Crack!

In a short time, the sound of a sharp weapon piercing putrid flesh was heard, and the first walker fell directly to the ground.

After killing the first one, Merle continued walking and the undead fell to the ground consecutively without much trouble.

Hanna looked at the skilled movements of old Merle, so her face was full of envy, and her hand holding the knife handle could not help but tighten even harder.

After dealing with most of the walkers, Merle turned around and walked back. Looking at Hanna's confused expression, the corner of her mouth lifted and she pointed to the last walker.

"This one is all yours."

"What?"

At this moment, Hanna felt her heart beating fast after hearing Merle's words, and the need to prove that she could also kill a walker had completely disappeared.

"Mine..." Hanna's lips trembled, and her hand that was tightly gripping the knife handle began to tremble, and her joints felt an electric shock.

"What are you doing standing there like an idiot? Get close to him, didn't you see what I did? Breathe deeply and keep your distance, steady, precise, and ruthless! Do you understand?"

Taking a deep breath, Hanna tried to calm her heartbeats. She wasn't tall, no more than 1.5 meters, and was very thin, with the large bayonet knife in her hand not matching her small figure.

But gathering the courage to go forward, Hanna raised her knife and faced the undead head-on, without any expression of disgust at the sight of that putrid face, but slowly a feeling of fear began to fill her actions.

"Hoo... Hoo..."

Exhaling a few more breaths, Hanna forcibly suppressed that feeling of fear. She really wanted to face this undead with courage, positioning her body ready to attack, her big eyes observing her enemy carefully.

As the seconds passed and the distance between her and the walker grew closer, she could smell that putrid odor.

"Rrrr!"

But at the final moment, just as Hanna's life and death were being decided, she succumbed to her instincts and ended up closing her eyes, only moving the knife forward, but the blade only pierced the walker's mouth and didn't inflict a mortal wound.

The walker's movements were not affected at all. This walker continued walking and stretched its long, powerful hands towards Hanna's shoulders, slowly dragging her towards him.

"Ah!"

Feeling the sense of danger, Hanna opened one eye and saw that the walker approaching her was getting closer and closer.

Is she going to die? No, she hasn't yet proven that she can survive in this dead world...

All the people Hanna knew, whether good or bad, those faces revealed themselves before her eyes, and those things she had never shown also began to surface. The deep regret buried in her heart...

After losing her balance and falling to the ground, Hanna had a panicked expression and closed her eyes, not daring to open them, waiting for the excruciating pain that her imminent fate held, but a few seconds passed and she felt nothing.

But just at that moment, a hoarse, old voice was heard with a mocking exclamation, "How long are you going to keep pretending to be dead?"

"Huh?"

Opening her eyes, Hanna saw that the walker that was on top of her was dead, while Merle looked at her with a somber expression.

"A little help, grandpa..."

With difficulty, Hanna crawled to one side, finally escaping from the walker that was on her body.

"Pick up the fucking knife!"

Merle roared brutally, his shout causing another walker to approach. Then, with anger, he let this undead be his test, and after it got close, he grabbed it tightly.

But at this moment, Hanna was already scared of the fear that Merle might get hurt just by helping her. She couldn't hear that old man's voice, hitting the sides of her body with both hands.

"Trash! Pick up the knife!"

But a scream awakened within Hanna. She stared intently at Merle and then at the walker, not knowing which one was now more terrifying.

"Are you deaf? If you don't pick it up, I'll throw you into a crowd of walkers right now so that you'll be torn apart. Don't you want to prove that Elena's death wasn't in vain? Where did that bullshit bravery go?"

Tears began to well up in Hanna's eyes, but she held back this time and didn't make a scene.

She gritted her teeth, as if she had made up her mind, ran towards the walker on the ground, pulled out the knife embedded in the mouth of that dead walker, and then ran towards the walker that was held by Merle and aimed at its head.

The sharp blade quickly embedded itself into the walker. Merle watched this result and then saw the girl not stop stabbing over and over again, as if she was somehow venting, but he no longer wanted to be a part of this and shouted, "Stop!"

Hanna was startled, holding the knife with both hands full of blood, with tears welling up in her eyes, this seemed like the outburst of a mother bear.

Merle threw the dead walker in her hands and it fell to the ground with a thud, he kicked it once and then looked at Hanna.

Hanna moved to his side like a machine, and when Merle pulled her, she immediately felt her hand being held and immediately heard the gruff voice in her ear, "Look clearly!"

As soon as the words were finished, Merle swung Hanna's hand holding the knife, and the knife was thrown and landed in the forehead of the dead walker.

"That easy!"

Hanna felt the strength in her hand loosen, and she realized that a walker could be eliminated in such an uncomplicated way.

"Is... it dead?"

"Hey, what do you think? When dealing with this type of walker, you should eliminate them in a carefree manner. There are more dangerous things than these ugly types, believe me, if we ever encounter those, it's better not to make noise."

Hanna nodded, half understanding, wiping the blood off her trembling hand and just now, at that moment, a large amount of adrenaline that was driving her had gone.

However, there was a smile on her face, even though she didn't personally kill the walker that was now on the ground, the feeling of facing it personally made her extremely happy.

"What are you doing standing there? Let's go!"

"Yes!"

Hanna looked at Merle's back with a smile and walked towards the next house. Maybe she wasn't strong enough to deal with walkers alone, but she knew she had overcome the hardest part.
