Chapter 307 - Grave Words

The people inside the container had heard the commotion outside, at first they all gathered around the door waiting for the moment when they should act, but after watching for a while, they discovered they couldn't see anything, so they all retreated to the inside corner for safety.

But there was one person who remained. Lori approached hesitantly in front of the door, looking at the fire in the distance, wondering what was going on.

Rick noticed something was wrong with his wife, which made him very angry at her stupid behavior behind her back. That behavior she always has of ignoring the rules is taboo in the organization, he was thankful that people on the base didn't kill Lori, but he wouldn't blame anyone either since that is the original protocol.

Airon had warned Rick, even though they were friends that didn't mean they could get away with it after this outcome. It was obvious that having more than three important captains trapped in this situation was really a bad thing.

"Rick, come here... Rick!"

Lori could sense that her husband's mood wasn't right and could guess why, but decided to say something anyway for everyone's sake.

Standing expressionless, leaning against the wall of the dumpster, Rick's tone became very cold, "What?"

The two couldn't see each other's expressions clearly at this point, but Lori could judge Rick's general thoughts through his tone of voice.

Looking back at the group of people squatting in the corner, Lori reached out and pulled her husband to the other side before speaking softly.

"You need to do something, instead of waiting here, what will we do if something unexpected happens? Isn't it good for us to get out of this place much sooner?"

"Did you go crazy, Lori? You didn't hear what Airon said, no one outside knows us. We'll only take a bullet when we try to get out."

"Airon ordered, Airon said, damn it Rick, the same thing always happens, now you're the captain of a huge base, show courage of a leader, you're not the Rick I know!"

"Do you just have opinions about Airon? Or do you have opinions about me? If you didn't come out like you were supposed to have done, would we be in this situation?" Rick asked with some irritation in his voice.

"If you listened to me and didn't come out, would something like this happen? You're the leader, why do you have to go out alone all the time?" Lori questioned with an intense look.

Rick's eyes widened in disbelief, he wanted to see his wife who looked familiar, and he couldn't see anything clear, he opened his mouth to refute, but couldn't say anything.

Thinking that her husband was persuaded by herself, Lori's tone softened a little.

"You're not his subordinate, why don't you take this opportunity to get a position where you prove yourself? Do you want to put your life in the hands of others?"

"Shut the foul!"

There was a loud shout, and the container instantly went silent. Everyone turned their heads to look at the dark corner behind them, and they all knew who was there.

Rick's next words were not spoken softly, and the cold tone in his voice became fierce.

"I think you've forgotten who saved my life, saved Shane, our son and you! Don't say anything like that in the future, I want to be quiet and you need to stop for a moment."

It was only then that Lori realized that the other party hadn't heard her words at all. She walked to the dumpster door again a little angrily, and looked absently through the crack in the door, but her mood was downtrodden.

She noticed Shane, who had been squatting in the corner, suddenly get up and walk over to her husband, the two of them seemed to be talking about something.

It was common knowledge that due to Airon's intervention, Lori did not experience many things like in the original story, so her memories as a survivor is what she has lived through in the first few months.

Since then, Lori has been living in protection and cannot understand what happened outside until now.  Survival is hard, and I have never experienced the hardships of running on the road for several months without enough food to fill your stomach.

But Rick is different. He is not only a person of integrity, but also an intelligent person. He understands what this is all about. He is very angry about his wife's questioning, but what can he do? They can only take the time to calm down.

"You have to find a way, this behavior of your wife is not acceptable and if those words reach Airon's ears, problems may happen. I have seen it Rick, those people who come to the base, the soldiers who are trained by Sam Valdez are all loyal to Airon."

"It only takes looking around you to realize that Airon saved over five hundred people again, all grateful to him and right now they are fighting outside for someone they don't even know."

Hearing Shane's enlightening words around him, Rick also sighed helplessly, he understood that these kinds of issues could not be resolved in a short time but it is something that must be done.

The light from outside came through the crack in the door and reflected on Lori's face. The more she thought about it, the more expressionless she became, the angrier she was and she hated her husband for being so unmotivated.

She didn't understand the magnitude of what was going on outside.

Tilting her head slightly again, she caught a glimpse out of the corner of her eye of what her husband was still talking about with Shane, she couldn't contain herself any longer and was about to turn around and go argue again.

By the time she turned around, her clothes were snagged on a sharp nail inside the door and, as she went, the clothes lifted.

Feeling the pulling force behind her, she looked back angrily and found that the clothes were caught on something, she pulled the clothes fiercely as if she was letting off steam, but she could not tear the clothes off, but on the contrary the door was ajar.

The clothes were really strong and only a few threads broke slightly under Lori's tug, everyone looked at her in silence and no one stood up to stop her, everyone present knew she was just letting off steam.

When Lori's strength reached a critical point, the door opened to the other side and Lori was pushed down by this force and lost her balance.

The door burst open, and the clothes hanging on the nails were also dragged through the space next to the door. This force pulled Lori's entire body out of the door.

Only then did people realize that something was wrong, and Rick hurried.

As he ran to the door, he saw a scene that made his eyes widen. He saw a walker pressing down on his wife, and Lori was hanging by her clothes, unable to move at all. With no strength, she could only push the walker with all her might, and she let out an exaggerated scream. Constantly calling her husband's name.

Without hesitation, Rick jumped off the wagon, and the short blade in his hand went straight through the back of the walker's head.

He then slammed it into his clothes and Lori fell straight to the ground, but fortunately he wasn't high enough to suffer clear injuries.

He reached out his hand to lift Lori up, and looked at her body in the dim light of the fire, he seemed to find no wounds, so he was relieved and roared a little reproachfully.

"Hurry up and get inside."

Lori lowered her head and said nothing, instead, she walked toward the wagon, then sat down in a corner and began to whine.

Rick is very angry, but he is not the kind of person to ignore his loved ones, so he can only step forward and sit to the side, saying a few words of comfort.

After a long time, Lori's mood seemed to have stabilized and she leaned against her husband's shoulder, staring at the door with her eyes rolling, wondering what he was thinking.

After a while, Rick heard her whisper.

"Rick, I just hope our family can live well in the last days..."

"I know and that's what they've been doing the last few months..."

"So even if this is the case, you don't plan to fight for it?"

"That's what I've been doing all this time, Airon is the leader of the organization and I'm tired. That's why I wanted to go out for a bit this time..."

"...That's fine."

"What?"

"Then do as you say, but you must make sure to keep our children safe!"

"Yes, Lori..."

...

In a somewhat remote location not far from Rick and the others.

There were five figures in that place, their positions were very well hidden, but it affected their observation of the outside world.

There is a small man in the room who is communicating with another person.

"Are we going to escape?"

"Wait a little longer, I suspect that the attack of such a large enemy will definitely deploy a lot of people outside."

"Then what do we do?"

"Don't cause me trouble, I'm trying to find a way!"

"Are you alright?"

"Hehe, have you forgotten how I brought you here?"
