Chapter 287 - Night Thoughts

Auge!

A muffled sound was heard as the fist crashed against the couch, fortunately Rick was not the only one sitting on the couch, otherwise Abraham would have knocked him down with his punch.

But Rick's reaction was not slow at all, immediately after seeing Abraham attack him, he jumped off the couch the moment he sensed danger, successfully avoiding the blow.

Seeing this, several people around him in the room rushed to hold Abraham, and Rosita embraced him by the right arm immediately, but was thrown to the floor by a great force.

Abraham freed himself from the obstruction of several people without any effort and ran to Rick again.

Click!

"Don't move!"

The muzzle of the Colt touched the forehead of the large man in front of him, and the long barrel shone with a cold light, causing everyone's movements to stall.

Immediately after, both sides drew their guns and took aim at each other, and even Katia raised a small revolver, which was a gun Guillermo had given her to defend herself but had no bullets in it.

Although Elen also pulled out her gun, her expression was a bit unnatural and she shouted to everyone with some hesitation.

"Everyone, don't be impulsive and speak properly if you have something to say."

Eugene, who cowered in the corner of the room, was the most entangled at this point and realized that this matter had nothing to do with him.

In his perspective, he feels as if two large animals, one white and one redhead, are arguing over something silly. He just hopes something happens so that his untenable secret could be kept, but Eugene knew he needed more and more lies to convince the others. Which sooner or later will come to the truth, he knew he could not sustain his claims for long, if he can bear the consequences by then it will be a miracle.

On the other hand, a part of him wanted to stand up and tell everyone the truth, he hoped to be brave and be able to step forward, but his cowardly character made him not dare to speak at all.

However, the word vaccine in his opponent's mouth became the last straw that broke the camel's back! He plucked up the courage to speak the truth, but the words became a scream on his lips.

"Abraham!"

"Shut up, this has nothing to do with you!"

Eugene didn't shut up, but began to jabber.

"Maybe I can't really change things, but one thing I'm pretty sure of is that I'm the smartest guy in the room right now, so I say you should put the guns down, because if there's a shooting, you'll all be involved right now. 90% of the people here will die from crossfire and stray bullets, I don't want to die inexplicably at the hands of allies, so I need you all to put your weapons down now, immediately."

"I'll give an opinion that both sides can accept, and then it's up to you whether you agree or not. I mean..."

"Eugene! Shut up!"

Following Abraham's growl, he who was still speaking at this moment turned into a deflated balloon in an instant, and his body shrank back into the corner of the wall.

Ignoring the barrel of the gun to his head, Abraham didn't flinch at this, staring at Rick without any fear whatsoever.

"Abraham!"

Rosita was worried that he would do something stupid, and hurried to speak softly, but was interrupted by the strong man raising his hand.

"We are two separate teams. I don't want you to judge our people. I'll take Eugene to Washington, unless he dies, no one can stop me from moving on! Do you understand?"

After understanding what the other side meant, Rick raised his eyebrows indifferently and lowered his gun.

"Of course, none of my people will go to Washington with you. We'll split up tomorrow."

"As you wish!"

...

That night, the two groups of people slept on two different sides of the room, and both sides kept vigil throughout the night. In the first half of the night, Guillermo was on duty, and in the second half of the night, it was Morgan's turn.

Looking at the sleeping people, he walked next to Abraham who had not slept all this time, his face was hidden in the night so that no one could see him clearly, but his identity could be confirmed thanks to the fact that he could be seen by the military uniform on his body.

Abraham is no fool. In the evening, before Rick had finished speaking, he understood the other party's meaning, but he was unwilling to believe the words of someone almost equivalent to a stranger. It can be said that Eugene and Washington are the pillars of his life, and he also took a weak assumption into his heart, deliberately ignored it, and now his attitude to Morgan, who suddenly appeared, is not hostile.

"Why do you still want to persuade me to stop going to Washington?"

"Of course not, I just want to talk to you about the situation in Washington."

"You mean that friend of yours?"

Abraham understood that there was someone these people knew right now in Washington, so there must be something more than life in that part of the country compared to elsewhere.

"No, he's the leader of our base. I was with him in Texas, there was nothing but people eating humans, children sent to war and many other horrible things you can imagine. We have several bases, thousands of people in each of them. Our leader also mentioned it when he went.... One of the reasons for going to Washington is to see if the living conditions there are better and to find out if there is anyone we can save. However, according to the news we received some time ago, the situation there is not optimistic either.

"Do you think there's still a group of people waiting to kill us?"

"At least not before we left the base, but there are always groups trying to kill us in different parts, and I'm not looking for you to agree with me in any way, I just don't want to..."

Having said that, Morgan paused for a moment and didn't continue, but Abraham asked strangely.

"What don't you want?"

"It's nothing, let me talk about the purpose of looking for you this time."

Seeing that the other party was silent, Morgan didn't mind,

He began to whisper about what he had found this time.

"Our leader, who in this case is known as our commander is the one who went to Washington, his name is Airon, a soldier just like you, he guarded a major CDC lab even long after law and order fell, the researchers are now in a different place even with enough equipment to find a cure to this disease, professors, researchers, assistants, everything you can imagine we have..."

"Airon and the people at the base see to it that security is absolute. I can't assure you that there are teams in other places, but our research progress and growth are definitely in a leadership position within the country."

"Even with this kind of distribution, we still haven't been able to overcome this difficulty completely, so what Rick said makes sense. Even if we manage to eliminate the possibility of getting the infection that turns people into the walking dead, there won't be much change."

"But I have a suggestion. You can come back with us to the base first and wait until you finish drawing your conclusions. If there are any investigators in Washington we'll send a special helicopter team to look into it, our people can even help you."

Morgan said a lot this time, but Abraham was still sitting there with an indifferent expression. So he secretly shook his head and did his best. What to choose depended on the other party's opinion.

What neither of them noticed was that Eugene wasn't sleeping at all at the moment, his eyes were staring at the ceiling, wondering what he was thinking, and the moonlight was shining in his eyes, revealing an inexplicable expression.

...

In a small town more than ten kilometers away from Rick and the others, Carol and her group also hid in a residential house for the night.

At this time, the night watchman was Richard, and there was another person sitting next to him, it was Carol, and the two of them were talking about something.

"Aren't you going to sleep?"

"I can't sleep."

"Are you still thinking about Rick?"

"Yeah..."

Richard sighed, looked toward the closed bedroom door behind him, and said in a deliberately low voice.

"I'm sure Captain Rick can survive a hell of a time and get back to base, but if we go out this time it's again because of Lori..."

"You're right about that, but we can't just wait..."

"So which terminal do you think we should go to?"

Carol pondered for a moment, then said with some uncertainty.

"We definitely have to go to that place, but we'll approach it directly, just observe it first."

"I understand, it's basic survival rules."
