Led by Arnold, a group of people went through a door leading to a back living room through a dark hallway and because of that many turned on their flashlights.
The floor here is very messy, you can see that there must have been a very urgent situation at that time when the soldiers left this place. If these marks on the floor are not from living people it should be the walkers, but now they can only make assumptions.
As they advanced, they checked the rooms on both sides of the dark corridor. The speed of progress was very slow, and everyone did not dare to be careless. The situation inside was still unclear, and they would rather explore slowly than have unexpected surprises.
From time to time, everyone found corpses and weapons scattered in some rooms with closed doors. Rick looked at them and did not ask people to pick up these weapons.
"Let's search this place first, clean up the walkers and then pick up the supplies!" Rick said, almost whispering as much as he could.
The people in the group that came in next to him nodded and then continued to dig deeper. The idea of Rick and many others was to first enter the cafeteria to check the status of that place. After all, if there are survivors, the most likely place they would be would be in the cafeteria, so everyone moved toward that location without haste.
There were no surprises or dangers along the way, Arnold, who led the way, was always in a state of tension, although he was a soldier, he naturally had a sense of fear for this kind of virus that could kill with just one bite. At this point, he discovered that the base seemed to be not so dangerous, and he turned a corner towards the cafeteria, and his tense nerves gradually relaxed.
Seeing his teammates quietly and quickly clearing the walkers in the surrounding room, Arnold's inner sense of security soared. He was very glad to have met Airon and come to this comfortable settlement. The people are very nice.
Just as he was thinking this, the companions behind him surrounding him had finished looking for threats, and Arnold quickly withdrew those distracted thoughts and continued to lead the others forward.
When he reached the corner, Arnold turned and smiled at Rick as he walked, "Captain, just turn around and we'll be at the cafeteria."
CRACK!
Arnold was about to turn his head, but he saw Rick's eyes suddenly become terrified, and he was still walking unconsciously, but he saw Rick reach out his hand suddenly trying to stop his steps.
He had already reached a corner when he turned left and saw a long hallway where someone could be seen standing silently, raised the barrel of his gun, Arnold saw fresh blood dripping from that person's hands but it didn't seem to be a walker.
"There are survivors!"
With those words, Arnold turned his head and three more people accompanied him as they pointed towards that motionless figure in the center of the hallway. Every step he took, sounds could be heard faintly from the front, but he never thought it would really be anything that bad.
"Who are you? You look like you're hurt, come closer to us and we can help you." Arnold said in a deep, not so loud voice.
"Argh..."
But just as he finished speaking, there was a sudden chilling roar and footsteps running in the dark outside door behind that figure, and then countless infected people with pale faces and red eyes appeared under the light with teeth and claws open. All of them were not normal walkers, they were running and immediately rushed towards a group of soldiers in front of Rick at an overwhelming speed.
Seeing the infected people running from a distance, Arnold's face suddenly changed and he no longer cared what to say, he froze in the hallway of the room.
And just as he was about to shoot, the figure in the center of the hallway raised his face and those scarlet eyes watched him with an expression full of frenzy.
Only at this moment, Arnold could smell the strong scent of blood characteristic of the walkers instantly, only then did he realize that he had rushed to certain death. And when he looked at those walkers literally running, he was scared to death.
A dense crowd of walkers with red eyes and rabid teeth immediately blocked any possibility of escape and when he wanted to do something he had been surrounded by walkers, countless claws and teeth extended towards his body and in just a few seconds he could feel his body being torn apart.
Arnold's mind was blank, and the wrenching pain throughout his body made him cry miserably for help along with the other soldiers beside him. As best he could, he turned his head and looked towards Rick who was not far from his position and did his best to reach out his hand.
When Arnold was able to extend his hand, he found that his body felt cold and as he looked down the blood overflowed from every part of his body and in a short time he fell to the ground. His vision grew darker and darker, and his whole body quickly became engulfed in these fast walkers.
"Run..."
Rick's outstretched hand found nothing. He could only see Arnold and three others being dragged away by the walkers. The hand sticking out from between the walkers' bodies was still calling for help, and the miserable screams of many people were coming from up ahead.
Everyone looked wide-eyed at the streams of fresh blood gushing from the bottom of the pile of corpses, splattering the bodies of the walkers. The smell of fresh flesh and blood excited them even more, and the walkers the back kept moving forward, the whole group began to slowly approach Rick and the others.
Rick then remembered the report that came in a few days ago, mutated walkers were the ones that Airon's group encountered on their way to Alexandria. He at the time was alarmed, but no one had ever encountered another abnormal walker and right now his face was in shock.
"Fire!"
"Bang Bang Bang Bang Bang Bang Bang!"
As soon as these words came out, there was a burst of gunfire, and bullets shot thickly like hail into the first row of walkers, blood splattered everywhere, and dozens of walkers fell helplessly on the dark corridor.
"Damn it!"
Rick, who was ahead, had given the order and fired along with the others behind him. Understanding the situation they were in, he tried to keep the people's minds focused.
"Don't get stunned, stand down quickly and fire!"
The team members, who were still in shock, realized the seriousness of the problem at this moment, all raised their weapons and began to attack the walkers!
The walking corpses in the front row were quickly killed by bullets and fell to the ground one after another. However, the walkers in the back jumped strangely and soon fell on the bodies of some soldiers in front of Rick who in no time bit his neck.
"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!"
The piercing screams were soon not long in coming and many more were bitten without them being able to reload their weapon, these walkers after all were something completely different from what they had faced before.
"Run! Everyone get out of here, don't stop!"
Rick was very lucky to have cleared the walkers in the surrounding rooms on the way here, otherwise they probably wouldn't have lost any more men on their way back.
"Zz... I need reinforcements, mutated walkers.... I repeat! There are abnormal walkers, informing the base to send the special elimination team."
After directly reporting that over the radio, Rick switched the magazine of his gun and shot a red-eyed walker that was eating a man who until recently was covering him.
"Bang Bang Bang Bang Bang!"
"Ahhhhhh!"
The group originally fifteen people that entered the mess hall was very soon reduced to eight and the group led by Rick was slowly being eaten by these abnormal walkers. Fierce gunshots echoed down the corridor, making everyone's ears ring, but no one cared about this as they ran out of the hallway into the warehouse.
"Zz... We're in formation, captain, head to our location."
"That is if we can make it out of this hellhole alive..." Rick raised his AK and opened fire covering all the people running out and just as he was about to turn around, a walker threw itself at his shoulder.
"Argh..." Rick frowned, hard he was stifling this walker with the red eyes but he couldn't do anything but avoid being bitten.
"Captain!" A man in the group saw the miserable state Rick was in and rushed to help him.
"Bang!" With a clean shot, the walker above Rick was taken out.
"We have to hurry." The man who reached out his hand towards Rick was soon knocked down by several walkers.
"Noo!"
Rick, who wanted to help him could do nothing but watch as the man's body was torn apart in front of his eyes. Unable to do anything, he angrily shot towards those infected and quickly left the corridor towards the warehouse.
Every time a walker falls to the ground, several walkers will stumble after them. At first glance, the number of infected people who were trampled to death is actually higher than the number of infected people who were shot. The speed dropped considerably.
