Early in the morning, four Humvees with machine guns departed from Alexandria and those split in two different directions. These vehicles were accompanied by two large military trucks and some extra vehicles.
The target of these two convoys was The Kingdom and Hilltop, considering that the Saviors have not yet appeared in the history of these communities which is very rare, Airon wanted to have eyes and protection in those places just in case.
Considering that there are abnormal walkers, it wasn't a bad thing that these communities important to Airon were put under protection. There were many things going on without Airon noticing, so as long as his people were in some special places, it wouldn't cause any harm.
Meanwhile in Alexandria, everything went on as usual as instructors trained recruits and some more experienced groups went out in search of resources and others began to work the land to grow vegetables.
It had been some time since two helicopters had left for the central base with the walker that had been eliminated by Airon, as they had to check in depth exactly what kind of problem is going on in places where they don't reach.
...
The beeping of a siren could be heard inside a helicopter where Airon was traveling with a group of forty soldiers and evidently his group could not be missed.
Originally, Airon had suggested the idea of Maggie going with the group that was about to return to the base to see her family again. After all, they were still alive and he couldn't ignore that, unless he didn't care which he didn't. But Maggie said he would not leave Alexandria unless she worked the land properly, plus the fact that direct communications with the central base were about to be installed.
This time, due to many factors, only Morgan, Carlos, Glenn, Daryl and Billy along with Liam accompanied him to observe if it was a good idea to get involved with a military base.
Since Raul Mendez arrived, they knew they had received a distress signal and the situation of those people trapped in a military base was very urgent. Airon didn't have much time for this, but when he heard that there were pilots in that group of soldiers, his ideas changed completely.
His community lacked pilots experienced not only in flying helicopters, but also other types of aircraft much larger and necessary for the growth of their power.
Pilots were not as readily available as fighter planes, helicopters or other types of air transport. Therefore, considering that he had long planned to go to a military base, he believed the time was right to do so.
In the co-pilot's seat in the helicopter that Airon was traveling, Raul listened to the liaison officer's information with a somewhat cold expression, capable of sweat continued to pour from his forehead, and when he heard the last, he waited a moment and said, "I am the captain general of the AA squadron, I am under the direct orders of commander Airon, we will be in charge of your extraction."
"We are approaching the military base where you are trapped! How many walkers have invaded the base and what do you see outside?"
"Zz... Right now he couldn't reach the man he sent to observe the surrounding area, but we have an approximate of a few thousand walkers." Colonel Ben Miller couldn't answer clearly, he had originally thought no one would come to their rescue.
Raul clenched his fists tightly and tapped his finger lightly with his leg, trying to think of a solution, he adjusted his state first and tried to imagine what they would see.
They had too little information to act calmly, it was even possible they could be heading into a direct trap without realizing it. There were many possibilities and right now that burden was falling on his shoulders as he informed Airon.
But he knew that now was not the time to stress, no matter what was going to happen later, he was sure that Airon would lead the group to face this crisis, this way they would get many of the things that his people needed as soon as possible.
"That definitely sounds bad..." Daryl closed his eyes without saying anything else, he thought it was good to save those soldiers and would agree to take that risk, but he couldn't say the same for the others.
Gelnn didn't say anything, he knew that Airon would put the safety of his group and if this can't be resolved without loss, he would definitely abandon the idea of entering the military base.
"Yeah, that doesn't sound good..." Airon pondered silently, and after a few minutes said, "Raul, inform the soldiers at the military base that we will be entering. If there are walkers, we can lure them with the helicopters and take them out of the military base from wherever they got in."
"The sound of the helicopters and seeing us, they will definitely follow us. That method had already been put into practice if I remember correctly, this way once we take the walkers away from the military base, we can be calm and not suffer losses."
Raul listened to Airon's words silently and nodded from time to time as he thought about the various possibilities they had. When Airon finished speaking, Raul contacted the squadrons accompanying them.
Of the three Ch-47 Chinook helicopters, each was led by a captain of which they made small orders to maintain the stability of the group.
Considering that these soldiers are complete strangers, Airon didn't trust them much so he informed everyone, "Our priority is to save all these people on the base, but I want you to remember that they are complete strangers."
"If they touch a weapon, they can order them to drop it directly. We shouldn't trust them unless we have a clear idea about their mental state, after all they've been on that base too long to remain normal."
"Understood, sir!" Everyone responded in unison upon hearing Airon's words, they all knew this beforehand. No one was allowed to take risks for unknown people let alone trust them, they might attack them without warning after all.
"We need to secure the weapons right away, if we give them a chance they can retrieve their equipment they might cause us problems." Daryl agreed with Airon's words.
Morgan looked at Dayl and nodded, "I heard that a group that was exporting north of the prison were killed by some unknown people after tricking them, Rick in response led an attack and killed all those people."
"Yes times have changed, after the Governor's attack everything has become very unsafe..." Glenn muttered with complicated thoughts, he after all hadn't killed a person in all this time, can he be strong enough to do it when needed?
"Don't get distracted, this will serve as an experience for us and will definitely solve many of our community's future problems! Listen, I am eternally grateful to you for following me even if my orders sometimes jeopardize your safety!"
Morgan was the first to speak and said, "Don't beat yourself up like that Airon, we all know we wouldn't have a better future if it wasn't for those decisions, I owe you my family's life after all."
Airon showed a slight smile and nodded silently, for days now he had been thinking that on many occasions he endangers his people and that is something he will definitely change.
Sitting in the seats of the helicopter next to the others, Airon narrowed his eyes slightly and began to analyze the current situation. The walkers should be scattered around the military base. Therefore, their arrival will definitely alert all the walkers. If he wanted to drop off a group of soldiers near the armory, he needed to do it in a short time.
However, to find the armory of the military base would take a lot of time which they do not have and in that time many would be vulnerable to the walkers. In that case, the safest thing to do was to take control of the survivors while the others moved the walkers.
At this hurried moment, Airon remembered how easy it could be to move the walkers without expending energy or ammunition so his safety increases by several levels. He won't put his group in danger!
Thinking about this, he suddenly opened his eyes and shouted, "Notify the people in the military base that they are not to move from their place even if there are no walkers until we arrive, if they violate this order they will be in a lot of trouble. The AA-1 squadron will be tasked to descend in two minutes to a building on the base before we take out the walkers with the sound of helicopters, their mission will be to contain the survivors until we return."
"They will in turn eliminate the scattered walkers while they assess the state of the base, if they see anything wrong or the survivors complain, they have authorization to eliminate them."
"Then, together with other soldiers they will have to find some vehicles and take them to the fissure that is in the base and if we are lucky they will seal the hole where the walkers entered. Don't trust anyone, they are not our friends."
He then said to the AA-2 squadron who were in the second helicopter, "AA-2 squadron, your mission will be to eliminate the walkers scattered around the base and make a report on the vehicles that may see us useful in addition to the resources on the base."
"Everyone establishes communications, we must be aware of everything that is going on and especially your safety. Don't forget, if things don't look good, we stand down."
"Understood, sir!"
A series of orders came out of Airon's mouth. Every time he uttered an order, the people in charge of the missions immediately sent the instructions to their respective squads.
Even Daryl and Morgan didn't say much. After receiving the order, everyone prepared themselves ready to go into action. No one hesitated at all, because they all knew that every minute and every second was precious.
"Zz... We are visualizing the base, we confirm approximately over ten thousand walkers, AA-1 squadron is ready to descend!"
"Zz... Now!"
"Hopefully we won't face walkers!" Muttered Airon with a cold expression.
