Chapter 149 - What is coming (1)

West Georgia Prison

In a forest outside the central base of the S.C.T. community.

A human covered with ragged clothes, blood dripping from his limbs and parts of human flesh hanging from his body, wearing a mask to avoid infections, walked with slow steps in the dense forest more than two hundred meters away from the new constructions that were being made in the prison.

A red handkerchief with the letters ST-1 was next to his left shoulder, these initials or letters stood for Scouting Troops, who were now a new system created by the S.C.T. community to have eyes away from the facility.

There were no more than three squads of fifteen people each, it can be said that not everyone is prepared to be covered in blood and walk among the walkers.

These squads are made up of slow, skilled and observant people. Unlike the attack group, Advance Troops, AT, this group is only in charge of moving among the walkers and reporting on what is happening in the surroundings.

Only on special occasions do the men who make up the ST squads act immediately. This time, Erick was leading a squad that stretched across the west. Their only mission was to report anomalies to the central base, one could say it was easy due to the fact that no walker could detect them.

"We're moving towards the central base, our shift is about to end!" Erick reported the essentials before lowering the radio.

"Zz... Roger, that captain, we're moving towards the rendezvous point."

In the dense forest, Erick put the radio away as he smiled happily. Another day's work had been completed today and no one in his squadron had died, which left him with a good feeling. But just as he was about to turn around, he heard the sound of rustling branches and then immediately looked away.

"It's just a walker..." Erick muttered before turning around, but then the sounds were heard much louder.

Seeing that this was out of the ordinary, he moved to the side and saw in the distance behind a bush how numerous figures were appearing one after another behind the bushes. When Erick saw this, he immediately turned on the radio and reported, "ST-1 Squadron, turn off your radios and return as soon as possible to the central base, code blue."

As he said this, Erick owed his gaze to the numerous walkers coming out of the bushes. He still couldn't believe how they came so fast towards his direction without him noticing them before, he knew his view was blocked by the trees, but this was his mistake and right now there wasn't much he could do.

The figures passed by Erick in no time and without him being able to move from his spot, he was surrounded by walkers within seconds. His route this time was the longest, he was still a considerable distance from the prison but right now he was helpless in this situation.

This time he was able to inform his squad, so he was sure that one of them would inform the central base about the situation that was developing in this place.

If Airon were present at this moment, seeing these walkers surrounding Erick, he would secretly say that even in Atlanta he was not in the center of such a horde of walkers.

"Zz... Sir, what's the situation?"

Breaking out in a cold sweat, Erick turned down the volume on the radio and seeing that the walkers were starting to get tense, he decided to turn the radio off. With no communication, now all he had to do was find a thick tree so he wouldn't be swept away by the numerous walkers.

Not to mention the amount of walkers heading towards the prison, whether it was about twenty to thirty thousand walkers, they were all spreading out on both sides and heading straight for the main gate of the central base at the moment.

Of course, Erick was aware of the new construction going on outside the prison at this time. With the changes and developments since Airon had left this place, the second wall surrounding the base was being built and the wire fences protecting the crops only at the front had been removed.

This time the idea was to expand the walls much further to increase the range of crops and to build large structures for livestock. With this, the livestock inside the central base would be removed and all the structures inside the prison would be slowly rebuilt in the best way.

The evolution of the prison was nicknamed growth phase two. Now when they receive resources from downtown Atlanta and the surrounding area, having much more manpower and soldiers, it was not a dream to expand the base in this way.

And all this right now is a big problem because of the horde of walkers heading towards the prison. If the walkers reach the crops, they will end up ruining months of work and ruining tons of food, so he was sure that this time they would not avoid this horde with silence alone.

...

"Report to central base, a horde of walkers is approaching towards the main gate and it's about a mile away! We lost contact with the captain, so he should have been caught in the middle of the walking horde."

Through binoculars, one man watched the large horde of walkers heading toward the prison from the front directly to the main gate where they had crops.

Soon, some members of the ST-1 squad began to climb the large trees to avoid being swept away by the walkers while informing the prison about the situation here.

"Zz... This is ST-1 squadron, we have a very serious situation. About a mile away a horde of walkers of approximately forty thousand infected is heading towards the prison, we can't move due to the fact that they appeared out of nowhere without us being able to notice them."

"Zz... Repeat the number of walkers...."

"Zz... Central, about forty thousand walkers."

...

Time before the report was given, early in the morning after a week of the elders arriving from Atlanta to the prison.

Several important figures such as squad captains, trainers and some project leaders were gathered in the meeting room.

"I have to say that I just met with Elder Richard and he gave me some suggestions about weapons and how the walkers won't be a big problem later on. By the way, how is Airon?" Sitting off to the side, Corporal Rayan looked over at Rick who was holding a piece of paper.

As he handed out the papers, Rick couldn't help but feel like Airon and smiled wryly. After handing out the papers, he replied, "The last time he communicated with the base in Atlanta he said he was headed to Virginia, according to his plans he will be back in less than half a year due to the fact that he doesn't plan on being away for long."

Morgan attended and then said, "I really don't know what Airon is thinking right now. He leads a large base away from the cities where there are crops, at the time I tried to tell him that taking such a risk was not good but now even I am going out to bring in resources from outside."

"My opinion is clearer. Commander Airon is doing the right thing. It is important to move and help other people as our community is doing until today, it is also important to know more information about the world. We know that anything can happen today. If God does not want it, there will be no need to move to another base or vice versa.

It turned out that this time it was Sergeant Welles who spoke this time, the pilot who had been saved earlier.

Hershel looked a bit skeptical. He pointed to the walls on a mock-up right in the center of the room and said, "Are you saying there would be an accident in this place? That would be very strange, not even tanks can easily pass these strong walls of our base."

Welles sighed bitterly and said, "Yes.... I thought the same thing, but I didn't consider an internal infection, hordes of those infected..."

"Okay, let's stop talking about things we don't want to happen, let's discuss expansion plans and what we should focus on, today we finish laying the groundwork to start working on the walls." Rick interrupted the armed discussion and shook the sheets in his hands.

"Well, I consider that the ideas are good, but we must consider the water problem to keep the crops in perfect conditions. I consider that the walls are something paramount so that the walkers don't ruin and interrupt the work of others..."

Rick also went over what would be best and how to work in the days ahead and also thought of good ideas.

Morgan held up the paper from start to finish and then said, "I would like to add that renovation of the outer wall is not a problem, but I would consider crops and livestock a little further away."

"Yes, we should consider other factors, that's why the plan has several directions and the best one right now is to focus on the defenses." When an architect heard Morgan's words, he presented several construction plans.
